The Vasque Sundowner has been around forever. That's because they got it exactly right the first time. The Sundowner's reputation for durability is well-earned and its gore-Tex construction is gonna be tough to beat for a long time to come.

Aside from insulation is this identical to the normal Sundowner? I've never owned and insulated boot before, around what temps would this boot be too warm for?

It is gore tex, so it is going to get hot. It depends on how hot your feet get but for me, For me, when temps hit 40F+ you are going to be pretty warm in this boot. I usually recommend that if you are going to do a lot of summer hiking, then get a non-gore-tex boot and treat it with some silicone spray. I even do this for most of my winter boots that I am going to be actively hiking in just because I hate when my feet get really hot when hiking, then I stop and they freeze.

For shoveling snow or something I go for a more insulated boot. Really depends on your activity.
