A lightweight boot designed to keep you moving through snow and more snow.

Vasque developed its Women's Skadia Ultradry Winter Boot for highly active pursuits in cold weather endeavors. Built around a Perpetuum last that has a broad toe box and a tailored instep for flatter feet, the Skadia was designed to go the distance without stifling your endurance. This boot is insulated with only 200 grams of 3M Thinsulate in order to keep the weight down. To make sure you don't freeze, Vasque added a reflective lining that sends your own body heat back to you, which is equivalent to adding another 200 grams of insulation. You'll move faster given its lightweight feel and stay warmer than you'd expect. Its UltraDry waterproofing system combines a moisture-management lining with waterproof components that gives you ultimately dry performance when you hike through deep snow.

The leather upper has a polyester fleece lining around the collar for added comfort, and it's antimicrobial so your boot won't stink up your car. The dual-density footbed and molded EVA midsole offer all-day comfort that keeps you on your feet, and its TPU shank gives you the sturdy support you need for hiking over moderate trails. Lacing up this boot is easier than ever with its speed lacing system that allows you to cinch this boot up tightly with one pull. The Vasque Venture sole has a ColdHold compound, meaning it has two parts in order to give you superior traction on packed snow and ice. Harder rubber with sharper lugs line the perimeter of the sole to offer a positive bite into the snow, and the center lugs are softer to help you move over unseen irregularities. The sole also has a molded rubber heel kick so you can strap  on a snowshoe easily. The boot includes a D-ring to attach a gaiter to your legs on those extra-wintery days.

    Warm, warm, warm!

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

When your mum needs something, you just gotta help out!

Warmest boots ever!! Perfect fit with a liner and wool sock or just a liner--pretty great in my opinion! The first time I wore these boots was to an outdoor concert at a ski resort ON THE SNOW--we were standing/dancing/jumping/etc. for about 3.5 hours, and my feet were toasty, but not to hot, which is important! Oh, and they're pretty groovy lookin'...Michael Franti liked them.

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: 6.5

These are crazy warm for such a lightweight shoe. They run true to size - I usually wear a 7, but got these in a 6.5 because it was the closest size they had left . I won't be able to wear my thick woolies with them, but they're so warm I don't think it'll be a problem! The tread on the bottom has been great, not crazy aggressive, but definitely better than my old llbean duck boots. These are also stiff enough that they make good boots to wear with snowshoes, hook up to gaiters, or can be used with yaktrax for slippery places. The colors are not quite so intense in real life either - the orange is more of a rust color and there is not so much contrast between the different browns. They're still really cute - I think I like that they're a bit muted better. Put your jeans over the top and they just look like regular shoes.

    Not durable

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size

These are very true to size and fit well as soon as you put them on. I usually wear a size 7.5 and got a 7.5 in these. Not much "breaking in" needed.

I wore mid-weight darn tough and smartwool socks underneath these. They were fairly warm and waterproof, but my toes did get a little cold at times hiking in the snow.

My main complaint is that the outside of the front toe box literally came apart (was tearing off) within 3 times of me wearing these. Not sure if it was just the fact that my pair was badly made, but this definitely turned me off.

    Amazing shoe

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

These boots are awesome! They are so comfortable, even right out of the box. I love them, I'd be hard pressed to find another winter boot I like. I wear them on a daily basis, wether to work or I use them for snowshoe trips. The only things I don't like are my toes will still get a little cold even with my smart wool socks, and they are slippery on icy surfaces. Otherwise, I love them. I will for sure buy a new pair once these go out.

    Winter running buddy

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size

I have wide feet, I tend to wear wide width in athletic shoes. I can't wear padded socks, but since there isn't any rubbing anywhere, and they seem to keep me warm there is no reason to. I bought these to run in on dirt/snow/icy roads with yaktrax. It's tough to keep the laces cinched up tight when doing a long run. They could easily be switched out for traditional laces. They are really comfortable, they are light (as can be expected for a winter boot) and I have gotten compliments on how cute they are. I have stayed warm and dry in dense slushy runs, and also on 14 degree hard pack icy runs.

This is an update from my December 2013 review: I prefer to get several years out of my boots, these only lasted about 100 days. The pull-on tabs ripped off the back of both boots causing a tear in the waterproof lining. I sent these back, backcountry was great about the return. I exchanged for the keen revel 2, which also has a nice wide toe box, and are light enough to run in. Just not quite as high on the ankles.
