Oh so comfortable but not so durable.
- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
- Fit: True to size
I bought these boots a month and a half ago to wear for two months of archaeological field work this summer. These were the most comfortable pair of boots I found -anywhere and I loved them until the soles started falling off. The rubber was still intact but the black traction sole was separating from the rest of the boot. It was like the adhesive just gave up. I need these boots everyday so I took some silicone gel (bathroom sealer) and patched up the bad parts. I took it out for another round and the silicone held it together but then the other shoe was falling apart in the same way. Bad craftsmanship.
Are these shoes true to size?
Are these shoes true to size?
We've always found both women's and men's Vasques to run true to size. Not the best for wide feet though. Go up 1/2 size if you plan to wear a heavy sock, but otherwise, order in you normal size and expect a good fit. Hope this helps.

Half Dome Lifesaver
I bought theses boots before going on a 17-mi hike to Half Dome. I wore them a bit before the hike to get used to them, but really broke them in on the hike. These boots were a lifesaver going over rocks on the trail and up the slippery granite to the top of Half Dome. These were generally quite comfortable. The soles gripped really well, and I did not get any water in my boots when going through puddles. I did have a few blisters at the end of the trail but will chalk this up to not having them fully broken in when I started.
Beautiful boot, just not for me!
These are beautifully made hiking boots. I so wanted them to fit me! Just not right for me due to the extra room in the toe box, and a bit too long. Plenty of arch support, but not in the right place for me. Looking to do a 500 mile hike, so it's got to fit without movement inside the boot. I wear a size 8, and considered going down a half size, but didn't want to hassle with it not fitting, and having to return it--again.
We are doing the Queen Charlotte Treak...
We are doing the Queen Charlotte Treak in March 2012. It is advertised as a beginner to moderate treak. Do we need this type of hiking boot or only a hiking shoe.
This is our first, of what we hope will be many, hiking holidays.
Thanks for your help
Frances, it totally depends on your style. I'd probably do it in a trail runner (more of a hiking shoe) whereas other people might want a full on hiking boot. The higher ankle you'll find in a light hiker boot rather than a shoe might be a bit easier on the ankles.
Love these boots!
My goal is a Grand Canyon rim to rim and I think I can do it with these boots! They're comfortable and give me the stability I need.
