I was hoping to buy these as a more lightweight option for backpacking trips. I read on the Vasque site that they are an approach shoe (suppose I could've guessed by the styling) but I'm wondering if they would be suitable for backpacking for days with 8-15 miles of hiking a day. Would/could these hold up?

I'd say that largely depends on you and how much weight you are carrying. My girlfriend never wears boots or anything more than an approach shoe even on bigger days. The durability will also depend on where you are using them. If you are on a lot of talus and scree I would say you will probably get a solid year out of them. If you are mostly on dirt trails without a lot of rocks, expect a lot more life out of them.
