Great shoe!

Last summer I bought the non-GTX Mantras for hiking in the warm, dry climate of Montana. Wore them everyday and hiked at least 25 miles per week in them. They were perfect for summer and a great choice for a low volume foot. I hunted everywhere for the GTX for daily wear in the New England winter and struck out. Hooray for Backcountry for having my favorite shoes!

Vasque Mantra GTX Hiking Shoe - Women's.

They are very comfortable and have great traction. I've only had them a few weeks so I can't comment on their durability.

Does this shoe have a shank system in the sole?
Is the sides very thick- guarding against very sharp volcanic rock?

      fell apart

This boot fit from the moment I put it on and went for a 5 day backpack in the Grand Canyon. The bottom, however, is too soft for much rock underneath. I took it on a wet hike, and even though it's GTX, it wet through. Lastly, It fell apart after only 2 days of a 7 day backpack. (I had to stitch it together with dental floss on the PCT) This all after only 8days of wear!

        Don't last too long

A very comfortale shoe, but does not hold up. I had to return my first pair after two weeks of use (walking and hiking). The leather came off the front of the shoe (unglued). The second pair has held up much better, however, the inside (back heel) has worn out fairly quickly. As I said comfortable, I just wish a little more durable.

what happened to the womens vasque kota gtx light hiker???? It was the best light hiker I have ever worn!! I live in Washington State and have a yellow lab that drags me out everyday for exercise, this shoe is perfect for pacific northwest weather!!

can't seem to find a sturdy women's hiking boot in size 11.5 (42 euro). any ideas where to look?

Erin,Do you typically wear a US W 11.5 or a Euro 42? Do you measure at a B width (woman's medium)? Montrail and La Sportiva both have some women specific boots in a Euro 42. Your other option is going to be buying a size 10 or so in a men's. When doing this you will need to add a spacer underneath the insole to better fit the width. Good luck.Mahalo, Sumo
