The Breeze is a big boot built for small hikers by the experts at Vasque.

Vasque makes the waterproof Kids' Breeze Hiking Boot because young hikers need quality footwear just as badly as their parents. Tough waterproof suede uppers are light and flexible for great fit out of the box, and the exclusive Contact outsoles that come straight from Vasque's adult line grip hard on trail or off. The Breeze has all the technology and bombproof construction that Vasque has to offer, because whether they're running around outside or putting on a pack for their first real hike, kids need durable, waterproof boots that won't let them down.

Small Shoe Big Value

My son had no break in issues with them. Has done 10 mile days with me in them and wears them all the time because he thinks they are comfortable. They still have plenty of life left in them for the next generation. I will be getting another pair of these for my son soon.

Tread is the same as my larger vasque boots which have plenty of grip. Great boot which lasts a long time.

Best Boots Ever!

Very comfortable, no break-in period required! I wore them hiking the day after I got them. Also, they kept my feet warm and dry in below freezing temperatures and snow. Run true to size. (Review provided by my 11 y.o.)

My 9 yr-old daughter, burning up the trail in her new Vasque Breeze Hiking Boots. This was the first time she wore them, and she did not have sore feet. No complaints at all.

Try the boys Breeze! Vasque has been building solid footwear since 1965. If you don't like it, return it. You'll be surprised though.

Kid's Vasque Breeze Hiking Boot

According to my daughter, these boots are comfy even the first time worn. Keep in mind that while hiking we wear "liner" socks and wool-blend "hiker" socks. Doing this will eliminate blisters and/or "hot spots", keep your feet dry(even sweaty feet), and dramatically decrease fatigue of the feet- due in part to the extra cushioning. Also, remember that wearing thicker socks and/or multiple layers of socks will require the boots to be one-half to one size bigger than you normally wear. As for these boots specifically, they look great(even wet & muddy), are lightweight, truly waterproof, and a good value for the money. When my daughter outgrows them, I will be buying another pair! No complaints from her equals no complaints from me! *TIPS: 1) Don't tell her they are "boy's" boots. 2) They make these for adults, too!

UPDATE: 12/13/10 After hiking in these boots since January, my daughter and I have racked up more than a few miles. The boots still look new! As is typical for kids, she outgrew them before she wore them out- So I got her another pair (same boot, bigger size). She still loves these boots!

I need to get a pair of above the ankle,...

I need to get a pair of above the ankle, lace up, lug sole hiking boots for my daughter for a intro to caving these have a lug sole? I'm not really sure what a lug sole is and I am having a hard time finding a high quality hiking boot in such a small size. She wears a children's size 3 or a woman's size 5.

Responded on

A "lug sole" would be anything that has an aggressive sole. Generally, the more aggressive the sole, the more traction. My 9-yr old daughter has a pair of these, and has used them for a couple of hiking trips. She likes them. They don't hurt her feet, she isn't slipping and/or sliding on wet/muddy trails, and as long as the water doesn't get higher than the 'collar'(of the boot) then her feet have stayed dry. No complaints from her equals no complaints from me! I hope this helps :-)

Hi: I need to get a pair of waterproof...

Hi: I need to get a pair of waterproof hiking boots for my 11 year old son. I have tried several different ones and he complains of them hurting after wearing them no longer than 2 hours. He has very tender feet with lots of scar tissue and does not have the flexible range of motion that most of us enjoy. He was born severely club footed bilaterally and had his feet surgically repaired when he was 8 months old. He started wearing casts at 2 weeks and after surgery he wore casts then braces for the next 2 years of his life. If anyone knows of a soft, well padded waterproof pair of hiking boots that we could try we would be open to all suggestions. He basically needs great boots that feel well broken in from the first moment he puts them on or he will have pain and develope blisters because his feet are still slightly malformed. Thanks for any suggestions.

Try using moisture-wicking "liner" socks against the skin, and then wool-blend "hiker" socks over the liner socks. Doing this will require the boots to be one-half to one size larger than you normally wear. This worked for my daughter and I. I hope this helps :-)

Highly Recommended

These boots are great for women with smaller sized feet too. As far as I can tell, they are the same quality as the woman's model at a quarter of the price. There's not as much arch support as I'm used to, so perhaps that's part of the difference, but they are waterproof, breathable, very comfortable and highly recommended for all ages.

Are the sole of these boots flexible/easy to walk in or are they stiff?

Hey Dawn,They're just a little stiff, but after a few times wearing them they break in well and will be plenty comfy for anything.

Vasque Kids Boots

Dad says: First pair of shoes in a long time that my son wore without complaining about the fit. Good waterproofing (proven as his foot went into an icy creek). Great value: good quality for the price.

My Son says: "Really good. I love walking in them, but I can never keep them tied."

Love 'em!

On a 3 day, 27 mile trip with my brother, these babies protected my feet on 10 mile days, and when I took them of, my feet were fresh and clean! Good water-proofing, very comfortable, and good ventilation.

They are coated metal/plastic at the top, and cloth eyelets for the rest. Durable, and rust proof.
