Excellent backpacking hiking boots

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

These Vasque GTX Bitterroot boots are really sturdy and well made. I had to break them in by wearing them on my daily walks for two weeks before we left to go hiking. The boots are heavy but meant for Sierra Nevada backpacking which I didn't get to do yet because of health issues this time. I will try to go next year by then, the boots will be broken in. I went up 1/2 a size from a 6.5 to a 7 because the thick socks would take up more room. I am happy with these backpacking boots as they were built for this type of backpacking.

Classic hiking boot.

These boots are great. I was looking for a classic hiking boot to take hiking in Heber and Park City, Utah and these are exactly what I was looking for. I like the style. The boots are really strong and solid.

excellent backpacking boots and the Vibram soles are sturdy and the entire boots are very solid and I am happy to have purchased them just last week! I am walking in them everyday to make sure I break-in to get a very comfortable hike in the Sierra's in three weeks!

Great boots

Bought these for my son for Boy Scout outings. He's on the edge, two big for kids but not big enough for men's. They're well built and solid boots. The boy loves them and they fit him great. He's put a few miles on them so far and his feet have been warm and dry. I hope they hold up but I suspect he'll outgrow them first. I have a pair of the men's boots and you can't tell the difference between the two. Seem to be good boots. They were worth what we paid on sale.

    Great rugged boot!

Great cushion, comfort, and durability. I recommend you size down atleast a 1/2 size. I normally take a 10 in ALL my gym shoes (adidas, saucony, asic) however a 10 was HUGE on me. I am comfortable in a 9 1/2 and still have plenty of wiggle room.

I agree about the running about 1/2 size large. I bought a size 7 and these fit like a 7.5. I have to wear thick socks to get a good fit. They are great boots for a full day of rocky steep trail and these are the best boots that I've had for controllong sliding. I'm thinking in sumer when my feet tend to swell some on full day hikes that the extra room will be just fine.

      MMM love these boots

I bought a pair of these boots for my girlfreind and she loves them. only con would be that if not tied tightly her pinky toes slide up and get a little squished. But she is supper excited to put on a backpack and really give these boots a run for their money! Great boots! super water proof. great fit. run a little large.

How do these boots compare to the old...

How do these boots compare to the old Vasque Clarion GTX - perhaps the best boot ever made? I have tried the Vasque Wasatch and the Asolo Spyder and they just dont compare in terms of ankle support, comfort and just plain wear for hours and the body doesn't ache anywhere?

my son is growing to large for a size 6...

my son is growing to large for a size 6 in kids. would this boot in a 6.5 be the logical next step? I see a lot of the boys boots stop at 6 and men's don't seem to pick up until at least 8. Help!

Where are these boots made? My old, badly needing replacements, boots were made in Italy.

I wear a reg. size 6 in street

I wear a reg. size 6 in street question is since I have small feet will these boots be to big in the heel area? I will mostly be in hot & humid areas so I doubt I will be wearing thick socks that often to help take up any room in the boot.

My wife has a pair of these and they are pretty true to size, if not a little snug on her. She wore just normal socks and they didn't rub at all, lots of play in the laces for tightening/loosening. Worked great in the Tetons for day hikes with moderate pack.

Does anyone know how true to size these...

Does anyone know how true to size these are? I ordered an 8, which was great in the Breeze Gtx i got last year, but with these it seems too big. Should i go down a 1/2 size or a whole size? I don't want to keep sending shoes back!
