The Union Charger Snowboard Binding is the binding of choice for four-time Legendary Baker Banked Slalom winner Temple Cummins. He rides the Charger because it delivers mind-blowing response in an insanely lightweight package, thanks to the full-carbon highback and CNC machined aluminum heelcup. The heelcup is made with CNC machined aluminum to reduce weight while maintaining strength and stiffness, and the Stage III Atlas baseplate makes minimal contact with your board to eliminate dead zones in the board's flex beneath your feet. All-carbon construction makes the highback insanely light, yet super stiff for responsiveness so your board obeys your every command, and injected EVA bushings dampen vibrations for a smooth ride. responsive but fragile

this binding is very responsive. i'll give it that. comfortable ankle strap beyond the point of cutting off your circulation. nice. toe strap isn't as effective but does the job. the buckle end still kind of points into boot when tightened. basically, i used the toe strap to provide a snug fit rather than a tight fit. lots of adjust ability with all straps, forward lean, base plate, heel cup and cover pad. came packaged very nice from union as well. the first day on these was a banked slalom in the morning and freeride afternoon. what a nice binding i thought. the second day on them was a boarder cross. had to skip my time trial due to a blown out high back where it is attached to the heel cup. guess this was pretty common with the carbon material. the factory model is pretty much the same, but no carbon highback and this is the binding i ended up with (rome targa not available). basically i got one full day on these and two runs on the second day before i discovered the failed carbon highback. sizing considerations: with an 11 boot i got the the L/XL. once screwed to the board, the base plate was nearly overhanging the edges of the board with a euro stance of +30 front and +9 rear. board has a 26cm or 260mm waist. the M/L fit much better and with all the adjust ability in the straps it works. i bet it would work with a 12 boot too. if riding a 13 or larger, you're probably on a wider board than a 26 waist so the L/XL would be a more accurate fit.

True to it's name - but fragile

I've only put one day on these so far but wanted to share some first impressions, specifically compared the Ride Capo (which I replaced with the Chargers). First off, I've put about 100 days on my Capos and have loved every day on them. They were a great hard charging and long lasting binding. I finally ended up breaking the aluminum nameplate, which is covered by a lifetime warranty. Instead of replacing with another set of Capos I felt like changing it up and got the Chargers instead.

First day out I paired these with my Solomon Sick Stick on a nice heavy PNW pow day at Stevens Pass. The heavy pow really put the bindings through its paces. They are definitely nice and stiff, with great response. The baseplate is slightly less stiff than the Capo, which makes for a more natural feel of the board, and a bit more of a surfy feel. The highback is a tad stiffer than the Capo, but not by much. Great ankle straps, but the toe straps don't quite measure up to the Rides. The ratchets are probably the best in the market right now, really great feel and strong. The only thing they are missing is a canted footed (which Union offers on the Factory, but not the Charger unfortunately).

Overall, the Charger is a really great binding and very comparable to the Capo. The only thing is I don't know if the Charger is really worth $60 more than the Capo. They're so close in comparison I'd have a tough time justifying the extra cash for the Unions. Still happy with the purchase though.

UPDATE: As of last weekend I put two days on these bindings, and they did not last through the second day. The attachment point on one of the carbon highbacks shattered. These are being returned for another set of Ride Capos. I'll be staying far far away from Union once again.

these bindings feel great on your feet, they are a very stiff binding and hold your foot down super tight into the base of the bindings but do not create any pressure points. the toe strap fits great on my burton boots but takes alittle bit longer to tune these bindings in correctly. where as burtons are easy and fast to fit to your boot... but ive rode burton missions and prefer these much more
