Multiple sizes/colors

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This is the fly I use a lot when I fish water that has been fished pretty hard in the winter months, especially the San Juan. I have fished this in a variety of ways, but as a dropper with the Griffith?s Gnat is where I have found the most success. If a midge hatch is taking place this emerger can be very effective. When using the Rs2 you need to have various sizes, colors, and fish multiple depths when the fish a finicky and be willing to change multiple time in a spot until you figure what is working for that situation.

The business

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

As far as a BWO imitation, this can't be beat. I have this fly in all sizes ranging from 18-24, in red, gray, black, sparkle and non-sparkle. Sometimes this is "the fly" fish are hitting, so it's good to have a full run of sizes and colors. If you're fishing a size 20 and not catching fish, change to a size 22 and see what happens. This little modification can be a game changer, it's happened to me many times. Definitely fun when you make these types of small changes and you finally "figure it out"...at least for that day.

very versatile

I have this fly in a variety of sizes and colors. In the right size it can imitate many different emerging insects. PMDs, BWO,s midge, or maybe you can't even tell what's hatching... put on an RS-2 in the same size and it should do the trick.

Amazing / Versatile

This fly is amazing for any mayfly hatch/emergence and is ridiculously versatile. Drop it low on a nymph rig, trail it behind a dry fly in the surface film, cover it in gink to ride high, this fly catches fish in all situations. Just match the size and if you can, color. Was fishing a small size 20 pmd hatch a few days back and caught tons of fish with this fly dropped off the back of a foam caddis.
