    Not a hammock tarp!

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

At first I was super excited I found a tarp for so cheap to use for my hammock! All the other tarps for hammocks are around $80, so I got this right when I saw it. So I used it on a trip when it was pouring down rain and very windy and it did not work! Now I lucked out and went with a group, and some people moved to a tent, and I slept under a really nice hammock tarp. The tarp itself is water proof and I did not have a problem with that. The problem I had was-
1). The parachord holding it up is so weak and sags a ton, and when rain comes down on it, it just keeps sagging! And if a wet tarp touches your hammock, for some reason the hammock will get wet too!
2). It really isn't long enough to completley cover up my ENO hammock, so it would have gotten the tips wet.
3). It's so hard to get the tarp set up so it covers up the hammock to the best of its ability. The way you set it up is you string the weak parachord and put the tarp over it and then tie the diamond ends to the ground. So what ends up happening is that the two ends of the tarp slides down near the middle and you have to find a way to stop the from happening (carabiners work). Then tying the corners on the ground wasn't enough to get it right in the wind I was dealing with, so I had to be extremely creative to get it a tiny bit better but it wasn't good enough.

So in the morning, I went to check it and there was a big puddle of water on the tarp which ended up ruining a layer of the tarp, so now it leaks! It was a mess!

So if you are going to use this tarp for hammocking, I do not reccomend it. Now if you are going to use it for hammocking, I would reccomend gettinnf new and stronger parachord and spending some time before the trip to practice setting it up.
Now the reason I am giving it 2 stars is because the fly it's self is water proof and did impress me that way.

    How is this so cheap!?

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This tarp is a must have. Very well put together, comes with guy lines and stakes along with a little carry pouch for the whole rig. I bought it for a groundsheet and emergency blanket/shelter and it has more than done its job. Its a little small but still perfect for one person. I'm going to buy another one to keep in my truck just in case. A fantastic buy!

So, is this a "regular" camping tarp to use repeatedly, or is it designed to be an emergency single-use tarp?

Based on price it seems like a one-and-done, but the reviews make it sound like you could get at least a few uses out of one.

    PaulD,
This is surprisingly not just a single use tarp. I bought mine in the spring of 2014 and I've used it a dozen times or more for anything from a ground sheet, a hammock tarp and a wind break for the camp. Keep in mind it is not your typical square tarp but more of a diamond 8 feet long and 6 feet wide. I've even used it inside my sleeping bag fro added warmth and the aluminized coating actually works. it also comes with 2 stuff sacks and a bunch of steel tent stakes and a bunch of guy lines with the slide adjusters. Great buy!!

I can't believe how awesome this is!

After searching for a tarp for my hammock I finally decided to purchase this one due to the inexpensive price...hey if it's no good I'm not out too much money. I am so glad I did! The tarp packs very small, its super light, and its very durable. The tie down grommets are secured with extra sturdy webbing and its the perfect size!

Very compact tarp and very well made.

Excellent quality small tarp which came with stakes and rope which I did not expect. It will make a perfect sun shade in the Bahamas and packs very small. Great little carry bag included as well. This tarp exceeded my expectations. Well worth the money.

    There must be a catch...

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I've used this tarp a few times now, so far it has been incredible. It's durable, light in weight, packs down small, and keeps me dry. The only thing I can't figure out is how it does all of this for so much less $$ than the other tarps out there...
