The summit and back before sunset.

Bag multiple peaks in a day with Ultimate Direction's Fastpack 30 Backpack storing all your hiking necessities and more. Inspired by its running vests, Ultimate Direction designed this backpack with vest-like shoulder straps for a secure fit as well as convenient storage. Each shoulder strap has multiple pockets fit for water bottles, maps, energy gels, camera, garbage, and anything you want quick access to mid-trail. The Fastpack's Infiknit harness includes seamless shoulder straps that extend down to the removable foam back panel for a chafe-free and highly comfortable ride.

The Fastpack's water-resistant fabric works with the large roll-top closure to keep your gear dry in rainy weather. The large roll-top also adjusts the pack's 30-liter capacity to a 20-liter capacity when you don't need much gear. Compression straps ensure a secure fit so you don't feel everything bouncing around. Ultimate Direction also equipped this pack with one rear drop-in pocket for your extra layer and two side pockets for your water bottles.

    Nice pack, weird pockets

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I am 5'10 inches tall and weigh around 170 lbs. I have used it on several short runs around the neighborhood just to try it out then on a full day backcountry ski trip with a little more weight. I bought the m/l. I wish I could have tried on the s/m now. The pack fits ok but I always find myself trying to raise it up on my back. I feel like it sits too low. On me the bottom rests just below my belt. I like having a lot of storage up front but have found the layout somewhat baffling. The two water bottle pockets sit at different heights on the strap. The right hand zipper pocket goes all of the way to the bottom of the water bottle pocket making it unusable if you have a water bottle in there. The pockets on the side and back of the pack are just right and I love them. It rides well with low weight while running and I didn't feel any sway while skiing. I really like this pack despite some of the quarks that I found in the front pockets, which is why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5. I intend to use this pack mostly for 2-3 day lightweight backpacking trips and I think it will serve the purpose well.

Great pack but not for petite female

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I really wanted to give this a five stars and yet sadly it is not the pack for me. It does not come in an XS size and as a 5'1" female I just could not get the shoulder straps to keep things from bouncing or chafing . Also it lays a bit too low on my back ( which if I was able to cinch the straps up more would have pulled it off my ilium bone) . However IF you are a guy or a female that is not petite then this is a fantastic pack. It will keep things dry and carries lots of stuff. Love the hidden waterproof pocket and I love having access to a bottle up front. So someone tell Ultimate Direction that even small women like to have fun and to make a female version or something that would fit us.

Hi sbh3281580...UD hears you loud and clear! Assuming you have the S/M size? Bummer it's not the perfect fit for you since you love everything else about it. During the design and testing process, UD does try to accommodate all body types with our multiple sizing options, from taller to shorter, tiny to bulky. Thanks for the support and feedback!

Hi emi...S/M sounds right, but it's also important how long your torso is to get a good fit. I'm 5'7" and really like the S/M fit for me and my 32" chest (For the record, I also ran around with a M/L to try it, and it fit okay, just not as close as the smaller size). If you have a longer waist or a bigger chest / upper body, go with the bigger one

For the things you want to do, especially fast packing, I think you'll get more use out of the 30. The straps let you cinch it down for shorter days, but the 30 gives more room for layers, sleeping gear, extra food, etc.

What type of back panel does it have?

It's called the InfiKnit Harness, exclusive to the UD Fastpack Series. It's a patented, totally SEAMLESS, continuous back panel design that connects the back panel and shoulder straps all on one piece of fabric. No seams = more comfort. It's also incredibly durable, wicking, and quick-drying
