Take the high road.
Rally over berms, chase down the best stretches of brown pow, and most importantly, show the guys how it's done in Troy Lee Designs' Skyline Women's Short. A far cry from the flowery, pastel-colored apparel that isn't worthy of hard-charging ladies, the Skyline Short actually does provide the same rugged construction as what the boys get. Made with a durable, breathable blend of synthetics, the short will resist snags and rips on the days you find yourself looking up at the sky instead of down at the trail, confidently handling the occasional brush with trail furniture and protecting your legs with its DH-appropriate inseam.
While you're lowering your seatpost and sitting back for a wild descent, you'll appreciate the Skyline's stretchy mesh panel along the lower back area, allowing you to move freely when you need to most. Troy Lee understands the importance of preventing a mid-ride bonk, so it included zippered pockets at the front and thigh for stashing snacks. Grab them on the lift while you catch your breath to keep energy levels high for your next descent.

Great fitting shorts
- Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
- Fit: Runs small
- Size Bought: Medium
I just rode with my new TLD shorts. They are so whisper quiet, light, and silky, I barely noticed them while pedaling. The adjustable waist tabs dial in the fit, and a higher waist offers great back coverage when riding. They made my ride that much more fun; having good gear will do that.
I ordered the Evil print (which is more deep pink/magenta/brownish purple in person than bright red/black as pictured on the website) and a solid orange pair. I felt the lighter orange was slightly see through (I had to look close to see it) compared to the print; I wore bright patterned liner shorts underneath so that probably accounts for the faint color ghosting through the TDL fabric. I think a darker short , like the solid black, wouldn't do that. Or you could wear lighter colored and/or solid liners underneath to avoid it.
Re sizing: I prefer a trim fit, rather than baggy style. After speaking to a rep I ordered a medium, even though typically I wear small, size 4/27 in jeans, body measurements 25" waist, 36" hips. The medium fits really well, hugs my waist and hips so no slipping there, and plenty of room for my thighs, which are the largest muscles I have. Lots of stretch in the fabric so it doesn't bind. Again, I barely noticed them on.
I like them so much I'm going to exchange the solid orange for another pattern. I suggest ordering one size up, though.

The thighs on these shorts are tight. I was hoping for a nice baggy fit but was sorely disappointed. The features on these shorts are great. Nice venting, stretchy, functional pockets, etc. but based on the description, I was expecting a more relaxed fit. They were very tight on my thighs, almost like spandex. I even sized up because I wanted them to be baggy. I guess they'd be great if you had no leg muscles which usually isn't the case with women who ride mountain bikes...
