Go big and get home safe.

The D3 Composite MIPS Helmet mirrors the top-shelf D3 Carbon, but as the name suggests, features a shell made from composite instead of superlight carbon. It features the same highly adjustable incremental sizing system found its more expensive sibling, which all but guarantees a comfortable fit for any head shape. The D3 Composite MIPS also incorporates Multi-Directional Impact Protection (MIPS) design for an added dose of protection every time you hit the trails.

What makes MIPS so special is its ability to reduce impact force and decrease concussion risk in the event of a crash. MIPS comprises of a strategically anchored, thin liner on the inside of the helmet that looks exceptionally simple, but serves a big purpose. That little liner is designed to move independently of the helmet shell and reduce impact force on your brain compared to standard, non-MIPS helmets. So if you do happen to crash, MIPS technology reduces your risk of concussion and dramatically increases your chances of walking away without a head injury.

The outline of the D3 is the same as the old D2, but Troy Lee played with the shape just a bit to improve its fit and feel. There's more EPS foam in the frontal areas, so you'll be safer when you face plant, and the new 3D cheek pads are contoured to fit around your jaw and face for a more secure fit and better protection. Troy Lee also redesigned the visor and front trim, giving them smoother edges for a better look.

The D3's shell is made from a carbon composite material that's incredibly strong and surprisingly light, with dual-density shock pads line that help absorb smaller impacts. Its removable, washable liner incorporates Coolmax and Dri-Lex technologies, which wick moisture, cool your dome, and fight odor. A host of 20 vents pulls air across your head and force it out the back for efficient cooling, the adjustable visor is held in place with titanium hardwear (and can be swapped out for the included second option), and the corrosion-resistant D-ring fastener cinches the D3 around your chin to keep it from bouncing off when things get a little rowdier than planned.

    Awesome Helmet - Runs small

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: Small

This helmet was for my wife. I have a D3 myself and I've put it through the wringer. Awesome. Plenty of light crashes on it where it saved my noggin. Very cool to wear when you're moving. So it has a great air flow design. Very comfortable when you have the right size. I had to step up to a XL from a L. My wife had a S that we're returning for a M.
