Description

The boss. The Big Kahuna. The head cheese.

There are a ton of full-face helmets out there. You can find pretty much every size, shape, and color imaginable if you look hard enough. So, we had to wonder what it would take to be the best-selling DH helmet of all time. Well, you're looking at it. The Troy Lee D2 Helmet has sold more than any other downhill mountain bike helmet, ever. You don't just luck into that. That happens when your product is so well-known for being high-quality that more people want it than anything your competition offers. That says a whole lot. What sets the D2 apart?

The D2 is made with Troy Lee's aerospace composite shell. Composite has become the industry standard for helmets because of its light weight and durability. The shell is accented with aluminum hardware for light weight and durability. The visor is fully adjustable so you can position it for optimal protection and style.

The interior of the D2 is as sexy as its exterior. Troy Lee shock pads provide comfort, and protection. The D2 exceeds CPSC 1023, CEEN 1078, ASTM F2032-00, and F1952-00 safety standards. That's whole heap of standards. The liner is completely removable, washable, and replaceable, so you don't have to buy a new helmet every year, no matter how funky the liner gets.

Troy Lee didn't stop at padding to make the D2 one of the most comfortable helmets on the market. The D2's ventilation system keeps the air flowing with an advanced intake/exhaust system. High-flow intake and exhaust ports provide cooling airflow through the helmet so you won't feel like your head's on fire at the end of your run.

The Troy Lee Designs D2 Helmet comes in Extra Small/Small, Medium/Large, and Extra Large/Extra Extra Large and is available in four colors–Delta Red/white, Midnight Black, Airstrike Black, and Delta blue/black.

Troy Lee Designs D2 Helmet. How much does it weight?

Responded on

Hey A.T.,

Thanks for your question. This helmet is weighing in at 3.7 pounds. Which really is the only weakness that it has. It is one of the most technically advanced and durable helmets in its class at the moment. The two downfalls of it being that it is pretty bulky and on the heavier side. If you can overlook those minor things then I would pull the trigger and get one today!

I hope this helps.

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I have been using these helmets for skiing and DH mtbing for many years, the D2 is the original Troy Lee full face. The exterior size fits well with your head size, meaning you don't look like a bobble head. Works well with goggles, yet you can fog easily while standing still. Fit is true to size and has a secure chin strap. If your gonna send it, get one.
