Description

It's hot out there.

Serious hot weather calls for gear made for serious hot weather. More than just your garden variety, run of the mill shorts, Troy Lee Designs Ace Shorts are made to tackle the hottest of hot days without burning you up. Ace Shorts are generously ventilated, which means you'll be basking in gentle, cooling breezes as you hammer through techy singletrack in the blistering July heat.

Ace shorts are made for the dog days of summer. Welded intake and exit vents at the crotch keep air flowing, and additional thigh-and crotch-ventilation zippers are standing by to increase the airflow at a moment's notice. The chamois pulls moisture away from your skin to keep you dry and cool while offering some protection. Anyone who has spent three or four hours in the saddle knows the importance of both of these functions. Just as important, however, is the fact that the liner is removable. This means you can take off the liner and go straight to work, the pub, or wherever you need to go without having to wear your sweaty chamois. You can also wear Ace shorts as everyday casual shorts until it's time to ride and then quick-change–padded riding shorts.

The main body of Ace Shorts is made with two-way stretch lightweight breathable polyester, so you won't ever feel it bind as you contort in mid-air. A large stretch panel at the back gives you even more freedom of movement. The fabric lets your skin breathe to regulate its temperature while it wicks moisture away. Pockets are located on the sides of the legs so you can't feel the contents while you pedal. At the waist there are tabs that allow you to adjust the waistband for a perfect custom fit.

Troy Lee Designs Ace Shorts are available in even sizes from 30 to 38. They come in Black, Green, or Red.

Ace

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

I bought a 32 but usually wear a 30, using the adjustable waist these fit great! The shorts are of a heavy material but ventilate really well. Plenty of pockets to stash your things if you don't use a backpack, there's a small back pocket which holds an iphone very snug. The chamois the shorts come with is the best i've ever used. It fits extremely well and still hasn't worn out after a season of hard use. The shorts are a good length for both AM and DH riding. My only problem is that the rubber on the waist adjustment strap has begun to separate from the velcro. This is something I will be able to glue or sew back together though.

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: Runs large

Have purchased 5 Troy Lee pants and this model is the best so far; because of fit, comfort, and general relaxed feel to the short. The sale price is a smoking hot price.
These double for my Big Boy Pants!!!

They’re called Ace for a reason

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Everytime I go out for a ride I’m looking for my TLD Ace shorts. They really are my favorite shorts to ride in whether I’m riding XC or riding lift laps. The material is lightweight, moves well, and can even be ridden with pads on underneath. I’m not someone who is super particular regarding a chamois, but I think TLD got theirs down pretty well and provides plenty of comfort for me. A nice touch to the liner is the lower stretch panels that feel seamless and don’t cause any abrasion when the short moves over top. The shorts have 3 pockets to them, two on the hips and one on the center back for keeping a credit card or some cash in. The zippers on the lower legs are meant for ventilation only and I would not suggest keeping anything of value in them as there is a chance you may make a trail donation.

Sizing is pretty true to size. If you are on the edge, size up! There are adjustments on both sides of the waist to cinch in it and work well.

The only downside I have encountered is that the snaps for attaching the liner can come apart in the laundry. It took a season’s worth of use before it happened on mine, but a dab of super glue should solve any further issues.

They are ok

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: Runs small

The shorts are ok. Cut off the circulation to my woohoo a few times. I think the padding isnt done as well as it could be. The velcro is a hastle to get in and out. doesnt close perfectly so it takes time to close up and line up the snaps.Just put in a zipper. the velcro on the side waist tabs has to line up or the velcro scrapes your skin. I wear a 33 and the 32 was way to small and the 34 is way to big. hope this helps your purchase and "Troy Lee" in working out the bugs when designing..

Love these, need a smaller size

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: Runs large

These shorts are the best riding shorts I've ever had. They are both stretchy and yet very durable still looking nearly brand new after a hard summer of riding. The only problem I have is that I generally fall between a 28 and 30 inch waist depending on the company. These are only offered in 30 and have some extra space in the waist, but also have the velcro tabs which let me get them fairly snug. I would prefer a 28 though.

Ace In the Hole

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

The Troy Lee Designs Ace Short - Men's is my favorite MTB short thus far. My favorite feature is the chamois liner. It is super comfortable and breathable, for those long, hot epics...The short itself doubles as a casual short and or post ride swim trunks...which is a big deal to me...They have velcro adjustments on each side of the waist for a snug and belt free fit tun-ability, and there are several great pockets and vents...If you are looking for a higher quality short with removable liner that will last many, many miles, this is the one.

Perfect XC/AM Shorts

These things are awesome. They are light and stretchy so they feel great for a long day of pedaling. They fit true to size, and for me (6' tall, 190 lbs, wearing size 34) they hit mid knee cap. This is perfect because while riding they go up just above the knee, making for zero restriction of movement. Then when I get done riding they are long enough to conceal my pearly whites and look like a normal casual short. The chamois isn't mind blowing, but works. I've owned these for 4 days, but already done two 20+ mile days in the mountains in comfort. Lots of good options these days for bike shorts in this price range, but these definitely do not disappoint.

Great short, super durable + comfortable

I have been a fan of the Troy Lee shorts for a while, I love the Moto's but for XC/AM riding they feel a bit bulky, this is where the ACE short really shines, they are light weight yet still durable and overall they breathe really well, I love the chamois liner in these shorts, it is super cushy and soft and probably the most ventilated of any chamois I have ever used.
