Trango FlexCams are a superb blend of flexibility and stiffness. They're flexible enough to not kink if you catch a fall over an edge, yet stiff enough for precise control on tricky placements and sticky removals. Most mono-stem cams are finished with a cool little forged piece on the cable-end with a hole in it for the sling. These look great, but require that you get your fingers around the trigger bar and then fumble to get your thumb on the end. Once you grasp it, you have little control of the cam, and the trigger just twists around the stem. Trango's low-tech but high-function swaged loop solves these problems, giving you precise control over the cam. Plus, it lets you clip in short for super-efficient aiding. The expansion range of the FlexCam might not be as large as other popular cams, But that difference often comes down to a whopping 3mm—the thickness of a tortilla. Moreover, a large expansion range doesn't reduce the number of cams you have to carry, so it really comes down to weight. Cams that tout larger expansion ranges weigh 20% more than Trango FlexCams, meaning you can carry 10 FlexCams for every 8 of the “expansive” ones. Trango uses a double-looped 12mm Ultratape sling so you can clip in directly, at 4” inches or at 8”. That means you might be able to get away without a quickdraw, which saves even more time and weight.

Bottom Line: A beautiful blend of function and versatility for a price that can't be beat.

Flex cams good for the price

I have been using mine for a little over six months and bought them for the word-of-mouth on how wonderful they where. The smaller to mid sizes I couldn’t be happier with. They have really smooth action and great balance to them. This however is not so with the larger sizes, specifically 8-9 which have a tendency to walk unless they are placed without flaw, meaning all lobes must be perfectly parallel to one another. The larger sizes have way to little of a spring tension for my liking. The smaller sizes (.5 and 1) have a nice feel but I tend to get them stuck really easy. I think that may be from my own lack of experience with smaller sizes then the error of the cam itself.
