Dial in your VW with the Thule Volkswagen Specialty Rack with Locks. Thule made this roof rack specifically for Volkswagen Golfs, GTIs, and Jettas from 1985-1992. The rack system includes four feet, two 41-inch load bars, and four locks. Customize it with whatever add-ons you need to carry skis, bikes, boats, and luggage.
Bottom Line: Get the rack that fits right with the Thule VW Specialty Rack.
Talk shop with all the gear freaks out there: ask 'em questions, upload/browse photos, and give your 2¢.
These will not fit. You will need to go with either the 400XT or 400XTR Aero Foot Pack. The XT utilizes the standard square load bars and the XTR utilizes the oval shaped aero load bars. I have the XTR with the aero bars on my '08 Jetta and don't have any complaints. They integrate into the style of the car very nicely and go on and off relatively easily once you get everything figured out. These are adjustable width models and should fit just fine.

This product is a raingutter-style foot. Your VW shouldn't have raingutters--most new cars don't. You likely will need either the 480 Traverse feet or the older 400XT aero feet. Use the vehicle fit guide on thule's website (www.thule.com).

Hmm, it says Jetta's only from 85-92. However I would click on the Car Configurator at the top of the screen and go through the steps and see if it would fit.

Does anyone know if this rack will suffice-is strong enough to carry minimal loads of small lumber products such as 1x4/s, or 2x4's. Also, am I correct in assuming that this could also function as a bike rack without any additional customization. Any info. would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

This specialty rack has a load limit of 130 pounds. Not a lot of lumber, also NOT a rack for that purpose.

It's plenty strong enough to carry all the lumber you want (within reason), but it's not a bike rack. You could strap a bike straight onto these bars, but if you want it to stand upright and have a clamp on the wheels like bike racks do, then you need to buy a bike rack. This is just a set of bars and feet to mount them on.
