    Small but doing its job.

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

When I originally got this product it looked pretty small, but I was able to fit 2 pairs of powder skis and 2 snow boards. It does exactly what I need it to.

    Good so far!

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I just got these racks about a week ago so I have not been able to use them much since it's not even snowing here yet but I have used them for my longboards a couple of times. They are super nice and pretty simple to install. Only thing is they do not come with locks that lock the rack to the crossbars. Fit on my factory subaru crossbars no problem!

Works great - tricky to install

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

It took two of us to install the system, but with some patience (and two step-stools), it eventually all fit great on the Thule load bars atop my Subaru Forester.

    Don't go too fast

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Well for one, the hardware that comes with it is not long enough to fit on a OEM subaru roof rack... which sucks. It is a real PITA to mount even after a few trips to home depot.

Another thing to note.. don't go too fast. I was rippin' down the highway at about 100 mph and all my equipment ripped right out of the rack. Broke the hinge and destroyed the rack....

I guess I just assumed they build these things to withstand abuse/hard use... guess not.

Hey mnowicky, I am terribly sorry to hear about your experience with this rack. It sounds like you got a defective product since these are usually very nice items. Have you contacted us about getting you a replacement order? Or we can return that for you. Chat in whenever or call 1-800-409-4502.

    Easy

Does what it says it does, no issues with the install (8 screws on 4 brackets), and the large release button wont clog with snow or road salt.

      Dig It.

      • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Just installed on a 2007 4Runner with factory cross bars. Went on easily and looks great. Fits my skiis well.

I really like the big button as others have mentioned. Seems solid and latches well with soft non slip rubber.

Locks provided. The screws are specific "star" type pattern for Thule which seems to provide some additional security.

      Nice price too.

      Simple, Easy, Durable

Easy to install and use. Doesnt Jam up in the snow like other racks ive used. Evrything you need nothing you dont

        Easy all around

Easy installation, easy use, easy on the eyes. This was super simple to set up on my Subaru Outback in about 10 minutes and was really easy to load and unload skis even with mittens and gloves on. I didn't notice any negative mileage impacts so I tend to just leave it on all the time so I don't have to go looking for the wrench twice a year. Very secure and good looking.

          Perfect.

Put these on my 06 Xterra...needed longer bolts because the Xterra's crossbars are a little thicker, but other than that these things are awesome. Keeps the interior from getting snow in it or rips in the seats. Solid buy.

Where did you get the longer bolts? Not able to fit on my 02 Xterra.

I had to go to a hardware store, pretty sure it was ACE hardware. I took the bolts it came with because they were an odd size(home depot and lowes didnt have the size in stock).

            Be Warned!!

These do NOT come with locks!! I was very disappointed to receive these and realize this. The price I got this rack for was a good price and it is a top quality rack. However, if you care about theft protection you will have to buy lock cylinders and cross bar locks! This can add around 60$ to the price. Also if your cross bars are taller in diameter than 1 1/2 inches you will have to purchase longer screws! Bottom line is it is a great set, but no locks!!

Mine came with locks...so...be warned that they DO come with locks!!

They should have come with 4 locks. But you need 6 locks. two sets to lock the rack to your roof bars and one set to lock your gear to the thule rack. Not sure whey Thule didn't include all 6.

              Ski/Snowboard Rack

I racked my 1999 Nissan Sentra and the rack looks very good on my little green car! My car is really small so I can't fit my snowboard in it so I got this rack and I love it! It is easy to open the rack to put your 4 snowboards on or off the rack and they lock so nobody steals your gear when loft on your car! The one downside I've noticed is that it does create wind drag. My car is a 4 banger so it's not very powerful and I can feel the drag that this rack creates so be sure to take them off your car if your not going to use them for a week or more. Don't let that 1 negative thing deter you from buying this rack as any mount you put on your car will create drag.

                  Great Rack

Does exactly what is supposed to do. Easy to use and the buttons are huge and easy to push, big bonus when your wearing gloves or finger are frozen. Gave it four stars due to the locks freazing up on me one day, its understandable but a bummer.

                    Rack that every guy likes!

This is an awesome rack, the kind that get school boys excited. Took about 15 minutes to install. No complaints. Holds 3 pairs of my fatty skis. You can't go wrong!

                      What ya need

Easy to use. No longer have to have wet, dripping, interior ripping skis IN the car. Keep where they're supposed to be, OUT of the vehicle. Brilliant!

                        Excellent Rack

Gotta love big racks, especially on sleek cars! ;)

This rack fits 5 fats pair of skis pretty well if you stagger them out. If the locks get a little freezy, just beat on the button once or twice, hard, don't worry, they'll be fine. Make sure you occasionally check to see that all the bolts are still hand tight.

I put my opening so it's on the passenger side, so if i have little room on the side of road that im unloading by, i'm not in traffic, just a thought.

                          Excellent Rack

                          Thule Universal FlatTop 6 Rack

I drove into the garage with a highback up on a snowboard. This rack hung on and was only slightly kinked - I fully expected to see it broken off but was very pleased to see that it is actually quite strong. So, I would say that if you don't do foolish things like try to rip it off with your garage door, yours will last approximately forever.

                            Awesome!

I have absolutely no complaints against this rack. Props to Thule for putting out the best rack on the market!

                              great

it was easy to put up and easy to use. I like how i don't have to take off to open it.

                                Hold onto the Included wrench

Yeah, this rack is RAD and handles skis perfectly. Obviously if you ride anything bigger than 80 under foot this won't hold 6 pairs, but is certainly good for up to 4 wasatch powder boards. Also, I've never had any problem with the locks(included!!) or latches icing themselves closed. Really can't ask for much more from a rack. Ooooh and if you ever intend on removing it from you car make sure you don't throw out the included wrench; The bolts are specific to this and you can not remove without. Security thing I know, but still complicated things for me.

Are the locks included with this model. Also, can you tell me the length of

                                  the rack

                                  Thx

Mine did come with locks, but be careful: If you have locks for your Thule system too, be sure to somehow mark the keys so you know which-is-which. I keep one set on my car key-ring and another set in the house. ALSO, be very careful to follow the instructions exactly when installing the locks.

.... I disagree. I own this rack and it will hold 2 snowboards, 4 pairs of skis.

                                  -Edit-

upon further consideration... I suppose this rack would hold 4 snowboards if you rested them one on top of another, flat sides touching while staggering the bindings. The rack is only the width of 2 snowboards if you don't stack them.

Another thing to consider, if you pack 4 boards into this rack you will need to have the lip of the nose and tail of the board facing up opposed to down. This will catch more wind resistance and potentially rip the equipment right out of the rack.

I was haulin' ass at about 100 mph with the lip of my board facing up. I ended up losing all of my equipment into the middle of the highway and had to run through traffic to get it.

                                  locks included with this one?

                                  locks included with this one?

They only come with 4 locks. You really need 6 to be secure. With 4 you leave one side which attaches to your roof unprotected.

Is there a rack that I could get skis/snowboards and a mountain bike on at the same time, or would I have to purchase two separate racks.

You have to purchase a ski/snowboard mount and a bike mount. No one, that I know of, makes a roof mount that holds both skis and bikes.

Will this rack fit a 2009 Mercedes c300? Also is it the complete set up or are there additional attachments needed to mount the rack etc?

this will fit your factory rack just fine, but this is just a ski rack and if you don't have a basic rack and crossbars on your roof, you need to get that separate, go to thule.com for the fit guide.

yes but you do need to have cross bars; factory or aftermarket.

Will these attach easily to a 2005 Toyota Rav 4 factory rack?

I have this in the 4-ski rack and have been looking for a complement. We mount it to a 2003 RAV rack (pretty similar body style as the 05) and it fits the factory rack great. Only thing I have noticed is that my skis have racing bindings and to have the skis "double-up" base-to-base my binding has scuffed the roof so I typically can only mount the skis edge-to-edge/bindings up. But the hardware and locking system are top notch.

I am shopping this item for my daughter. Is it possible to carry skis and a snowboard at the same time using this rack? If not, is there another Thule rack that will carry both?

how can i eliminate the high-pitched whistling noise everytime i reach 40mph and up?

Getting a fairing may help with that. It has to do with the airflow over the rack. Any way to adjust how air flows over it may help. I used to have a flat top 6 on my Subaru and having a fairing on the front helped with reducing wind noise.

Will this work with a 2009 Toyota Matrix factory rack?

i have this model installed on a 06 toyota rav-4 w/ factory rack, so i can't speak for the matrix exactly, but one issue i have is that the clearance of my factory rack is low, so most snowboards i place binding-side-down hit the roof, so i end up having to remove the bindings. very annoying. now if thule had some kind of lift to raise the clamps it would solve that problem, but no such luck. i recommend yakima big powderhound, that has an integrated lift (be sure it's the newest model, i think they just added it) in case you need it.

What is the difference between this rack and the Thule Snowcat? I have a Subaru Forester with factory bars on the roof.

The only thing I noticed was that the Snowcat requires a factory roof rack with side rails whereas it seems like you can get away with not having a factory rack for the Flat Top by using it with an aftermarket rack (Thule, Yakima, etc.).
