Load up your rig, and toss your bikes on the back at the last minute. Thule's Speedway Bike Rack quickly attaches with nylon straps to the trunk of most cars. Available in two and three bike versions, the Speedway is a super-stable and cost-effective way to cart your bikes around. Roof racks are expensive, and if you're not using them all the time, they're more trouble than they're worth. The Speedway folds down with the snap of a few buttons and stows in your garage or trunk. Thule's no-sway cage prevents the bikes from scratching each other, while padding protects your car from damage. Plus, it's easy to fit on friends' cars when you can get someone else to drive.
Bottom Line: Easy set up and take down, no wasted time.
I AM THE OWNER OF A 2002 ACURA MDX. I FOLLOWED ALL INSTRUCTIONS. I PLACED ONE 26 INCH MOUNTAIN BIKE AND ONE SMALL CHILD'S BIKE ON THE RACK. I FASTENED AND TIGHTENED ALL STRAPS AND CLIPS. THE RACK SLID AND THE TWO OF THE BOTTOM CLIPS SLIPPED OUT. NOT TO MENTION IT DAMAGED THE REAR DOOR LEAVING SCRATCHES AND SMALL DENTS. I AM VERY DISSAPOINTED WITH THIS ITEM. DO NOT PURCHASE.

It's my first bike rack, so I have no comparison for ya but it worked. Pretty easy to set up and take down. Mounting was good for my Specialized hard tail. A bit tricker for my Gary Fisher F4 full suspension, but it works. I like the extra security of the sure fit feature for interstate travel. If you don't need/want to invest in a roof rack this works!
This is a great rack. I used it moderately but decided that a hitch rack was what I really wanted. The rack would be 5 star if there weren't better options than a trunk-mounted rack out there. The overall quality of the rack is great, though and it is definitely a great choice if someone wants a trunk rack.
Does anybody know is this rack will fit my 1988 plymouth voyager mini van? (it's exactly like a dodge caravan). it is a hatch back, but I don't know if it will work?
Great bike rack. Took us a while to figure out how to put the 2 bikes on so they fit most efficiently (one men's one women's style). No complaints with the product, only thing is, the box it came in had a small hole so we lost one of the lug-nuts...which is an important piece. I'd recommend the product to anyone w/ a hatchback vehicle, though. Happy biking : )
I bought this rack yesterday and had enough problems that it was brought right back today. First, on my Camry the side hooks kept riding up - and they didn't stop at the top, they'd keep on going up to the top the trunk - so it was very insecure. I figured I could fix that little thing by affixing thin rubber pads under the hooks. This worked very well, but I shouldn't have to do this; Thule should rubberize the hooks to start with as I understand from a local rack dealer that people compalin a lot about scuffs on their paint from the bare hooks.
If that had been the only problem I would have been OK, since I found my own homemade fix with the rubber pads. But then, on my first use, after tightening the straps up very well and retightening after the bike was on, and even tying a knot up against the buckle (because the same dealer as above told me the straps tend to loosen even on short trips), I drove about 15 minutes, only to find that the bottom hook had come out completely and was just hanging there; this is particuarly bad becaue on this rack, the side and bottom hooks are connected by a single strap, so if one comes out, the other is not secured. I had checked it before and everything was very nice and tight. I was even able to get the hook back in without loosening the straps, so the blue strap had definitely loosened from the road vibration and little bumps. I feel lucky that my biked didn't fly off my car and injure someone.
Thule has a good name, but they should NOT promote this rack for the Camry, and they should fix the quality issues I mentioned. Luckily I was able to return it today and honestly, this has turned me off Thule completely. I've decided to get a hitch-mount rack and it will not be a Thule.
By the way, the same rack dealer I mentioned above no longer sells this model (they sell other Thules) because of the same issues I've mentioned.
I've used this bike rack around town and on the interstate. It's performed fantastically on several trans-state trips, and hasn't deteriorated at all in the 8 months that I've had it. There's plenty of room for 2 bikes, and the rubber straps keep the bike on nice and safe. It's not as easy to take on and off, so I just keep mine on all the time. It stays much more sturdily than other bike racks that are easier to put on, though, so it's a trade-off. Definitely worth it for me. I recommend it.
The Thule Speedway is a great quality rack, for much cheaper than the traditional roof rack. The anti-sway cages really keep the bikes stable, so I feel much more comfortable with them on the back, on the freeway.
Does anyone know if this will fit on a 2008 Subaru Impreza Hatchback? It seems like it would fit but I was wondering if anyone knew for sure (ie have installed it on one).
Thank you, I had checked Thule's website and the configurator suggests this, but the fit guide only lists impreza wagon up to 99, which is why i asked if anyone knew definitely. reading more backcountry has an excellent return policy so I guess I will just try it out and see...
Most Thule hatch racks strap on to the frames of the door. So if you got a little room at the top of the door, and you can see weatherstripping, You could prob fit a hook strap in there. Your spoiler, if you can get your hand under it, you might be able to fit it. This might flex your spoiler a bit though.
http://www.backcountry.com/store/car_rack/thule/begin.htmlThat's a rack configurator. You tell it what kind of car you have and it'll put all the parts you need together.
This should work on your car. I haven't found a car that it won't fit on. The Thule website won't tell you if it will fit because they want you to get a hitch rack or a roof rack, but backcountry.com's return process is quick and easy. It's a great rack, though, I don't think you'll have a problem.
Come on now... It looks like the photo above is a hatchback. At first glance I thought it was a Subaru (I own one myself and will probably buy this product) but I clicked the image and found that it's really an Audi A4.
