Haven't you ever seen those alien-crossing signs in the desert?
Even if you are attacked by aliens from outer-space while on your way to thrash the singletrack in Loma, the Thule Sidearm Universal Bike Mount will hold your bike securely to your roof. When the aliens try to use their super-high-powered wind-gun on I-70, they will be no match for the Sidearm.

- Corrosion-resistant double-walled aluminum tray provides strength and rigidity when traveling on the highway

- Fits bikes with 20 to 29in wheel diameters and bicycles with up to 3in-wide tires

I have two of these racks on my car. I have never had an issue with either rack. The primary assembly takes a while, once it is on the rack it takes less than minute to load and go with any bike.

This roof rack just works. The only flaw I could think of with this product is that it attachs almost too easy to that someone could steal it super easy. That being said, it's ridiculously easy to put on your vehicle and remove if you don't want it on top when not in use. The system works practically with any bike and was quite stable at highway speeds. The only way this rack really moves is if your bars are flimsy. It has a universal fit so it should work fine on practically any bars.
I like this rack, but I dont love it.

The title kinda sums up my overall opinion. This thing works ok. The issues I have with it are like another reviwer said the security system on this isnt stellar. It will slow down a theif but I still wouldnt feel totally comfortable leaving my bike out of my sight.
The other problems are the front tire will come out of the tray at 75-80mph freeway speeds or in a headwind. I also had an issue with the rear wheel strap breaking. Luckily I live in UT where backcountry is and I just brought it in and they swapped it for a new one. The ratchet system is help together with cheap rivets that broke after 2-3 weeks of use.
If I had it to do over I would probably go Yakima.

Pros:
Holds the bike securely (with a mod)
Easy to mount to most bars
Cons:
-The security system is pretty much useless.
-At high speeds, many bike/tire combos will need a front tire strap to keep the tire from working itself out of the tray.
- The sidearm is pretty stiff and depending on the height of your vehicle it can be pretty freakin tough to actually get your bike on the try and locked in. Not to mention, getting it off your car.
Will this work with the aeroblade bars...

Will this work with the aeroblade bars (wide, narrow bars). Or will I have to buy an adapter?
Thanks

Despite the fact that your question makes absolutely no sense (wide AND narrow?), I'm going to take a stab:
Because this mount hooks onto the wheel of your bike and not whatever bar it is you're talking about, you won't need an adaptor for any bike. Unless you ride a penny-farthing?

Sorry, should of described it better. How does it attach to the roof rack? I have the newer style "aeroblade" cross bars. They're quite wide, but have a thin profile to them.

The xadapt9 makes it easier but you can throw it on the aero bars with the stock mounts.

Hey Jun,
Hard to guarantee it but these are meant to fit the majority of bars out there. Should be good to go.

Ok, so I've had this rack since August '09 (2.5 years) and I have had no problems with it. I've driven from NY-TX, TX-FL (2x!) and loads of 2-hr drives with my bikes. I'm 5'9 (and female) and I can haul my bikes on my roof of my SUV by myself- the side arm is really quick to put on and adjust quickly.
Popping the rack off and on my car is a breeze (after the first few attempts to get the hang of it). I do suggest getting a bike lock and locking your bike frame down to the roof rack as extra security. No bike rack is theft proof...(but I haven't had a problem yet)
It holds my hybrid, roadie, and 29'er hardtail perfectly!
Nice Rack

This rack is great! I've had it for 3 years and its been working great. I bought it because i had a lefty and it is perfect. I like it much better than the yakima equivalent, it seems much more secure because you have much more adjustably over the yakima.

This is about as good an option as I've found for roof-mounted racks. Super easy to use (once installed), and incredibly stable. Takes about 15 seconds to load and/or unload a bike. Dropped a star for two drawbacks: if you want to mount it on the driver side you have to spend 30 minutes swapping the whole system around (minor annoyance), and even locked all a thief has to do to take your bike is disconnect the front wheel. If you have to leave a bike in the rack unattended in a sketchy area, I strongly suggest a heavy chain or a U-lock.
top notch!

I was really psyched with the rack and installed it with minimal effort. The real effort came when I tried to put my bike on the car and promptly dropped it off my roof twice! I have a Subaru Impreza so the drop actually didn't do any damage to my bike, but the roof of my car did not fair as well.
I took off one of the spacers and it leveled out the rack and since then loading and off loading has been much easier.
I do love the rack and the fact I do not have to take off my front wheel.
Awesome Product!

I normally do not write reviews on products, but i felt compelled to write one about the Thule sidearm. I spent a lot of time researching and reading reviews on a number of roof mount bike racks. At first I was against looking at a rack that did not mount directly to the fork because I wanted a rack to be stable and not wobble on my roof. Because my bike has a 15mm through Axle I would have had to purchase an additional bracket and then there was the time spent popping the wheel on and off. I own an Audi A4 and have limited space for the tire as well. So after reading some positive reviews on the sidearm i decided to pony up and purchase it. I mounted it to my Thule aero bars with no problem and It only takes 10 -15 minutes to set up. Once on the roof you're all set to go!! Literally 15 seconds to take the bike off or put it on securely. The bike does not wobble at all. It is truelly awesome being able to get to the trails and pull the bike off in 15 seconds. When you are done toss it on the roof, pull the sidearm tight over the front tire, put the strap on the rear tire and you are done! The only thing i can think of to complain about is the additional wind noise from the rack. It is not terrible but it is noticable. Other than that the rack is awesome, so good in fact that I ended up ordering a second one.

pierre, you've got to use an xadapt9 adapter by thule. Hard to get in Canada. I ordered from REI across the border.

It should fit on round bars! Check out the compatability under the tech specs...a little confusing when it says "round Thule crossbars" but Thule bars are square and thus, the round refers to Yakima.
