Works well once familiar w/ install

    • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer

This item was bought to accompany the Thule Spare Me Bike Carrier for my Jeep. Like the bike carrier, the ski carrier was difficult to install the first time, as the directions were very unclear and difficult to follow. However, after the first time, removal and reinstallation of the ski carrier is fairly simple, and can be done with one person. It holds up to six pairs of skis (a squeeze) but once all put together it works very well.

    Looks great...

If you have a 963Pro Tire Mount Thule, this looks like it was built for it. However, the 963 has smaller diameter metal compared to the Tram. Where the tram was built to carry 6/4 skis/boards, if you use it with a 963, you can only carry 4/2 skis/boards. Consequently, there is a bit of bounce while moving with a full load. I don't think it's going anywhere, but it makes me keep an eye on it. For the money, I would have expected sturdier support. Arguably, it could be the result of the max load of the car tire mount. Either way, for what I need, it does the job and looks pretty darn good. I didn't want a roof rack on my 2013 Wrangler and any hitch mount won't clear the spare tire and tailgate--a pain when suiting up for skiing and you need the tailgate open. Only option, mount to the tire so everything swings out of the way.
