If you don't want a big scratch on your Escalade from trying to put your kayak on the roof by yourself, you'll be happy to see Thule's Outrigger II. The Outrigger II slides into the front load bar and pulls out when it's time to get your boat on the roof. Just lift your boat's bow onto the Outrigger II, and then use that as a pivot point to get the stern up. It makes getting your boat on the roof by yourself a lot easier, and it protects your sweet ride from falling boats. An integrated load stopper even prevents your kayak from sliding off the end.
Bottom Line: Protect your car, and make loading your boat on the rack easier, all at once.

I recently took a one-week trip kayaking and fishing. I am a 5'2" female and loading the kayak onto the roof of my car was much easier with the Outrigger II! It is worth every cent I spent on it!

Thule Hullavator is by far the easiest. Its also muy expensivo. A cheaper option would be to get the outrigger to help hoist up the boat, then get 2 Thule hull-a-ports, or Yakima HullRaisers, which provide 4 contact points (each) for extra boat security. I just bought a new Escape and I'm a 5'4" independent woman. The Outrigger allows me to go kayaking whenever I want. It makes loading my kayak a breeze! I love it and have recommended it to my friends.

Did you buy just one or two outriggers to load your kayak? I have a 12 ft boat that's pretty heavy, loading onto a 2009 rav 4 with thule hull a ports. i've never loaded it myself & thinking bout buying 1 or 2 outriggers to enable me to do so
Is this hard to install? I have factory (Subaru Forester) racks.
Is this hard to install? I have factory (Subaru Forester) racks. I have the Thule glide system which are great (except one of the pads came off after two years) and my Subaru racks have worked just fine. I don't want to make rack changes if I don't have to. Thanks for your help with this!

I like the Outrigger II, but if you don't want a nice scratch on your vehicle. Put a cloth or towel on the paint work. It does make loading the yak a lot easier. I would buy this again and recommend it.

I'm a 60-year-old Backpacker/Fisherman/Canoeist, who is too independent for his age. But loading my canoe by myself onto my truck was becoming just too much. The Thule Outrigger was very easy to mount and it makes loading my canoe so much easier and safer!
