Thule Lock Cylinders are arguably the most important part of your rack, that is, the part that keeps all your gear safe and secure on the rack. Thule Lock Cylinders are designed in one size to fit many Thule rack parts, so if a situation necessitates new locks, you can buy one package of Lock Cylinders and lock your entire rack with a single key.
Bottom Line: Cheaper than replacing your equipment.
Customer service is 5 star outstanding. I called about a defective clamshell bike lock on my roofrack and I wanted to purchase a new one. Instead they shipped me a new one at NO CHARGE! In this day and age alot of companies rip you off for what ever they can. NOT THULE. I've been using their products for 18 plus years and they're one company you can TRUST.
Your locks should have come with a blank key. With the lock unlocked, you insert the blank key and the cylinder should pull right out. You may have to give it a quick blast of WD40, but it's a pretty simple operation.

Don't get me wrong, i love when people like my bikes, just not when they like them enough to steal them. Fortunately with Thule lock cylinders i don't have to worry about this. These lock cylinders were a breeze to install on my Thule Eschelon bike rack, and keep my bikes locked safe and sound while i am away from the car. In my opinion these are a necessity to ensure your stuff stays yours. Only four stars though because i think they should be included with the bike rack.
Overall the locks are great and have performed better than my other Yakima system locks. The only complaint is that I wish these rack companies could invent a lock that doesn't bind up after a few years of use. Thank god for Tri-Flo and WD-40.
I bought an old Thule snowboard rack from a friend and he'd lost the old locks - got these and was able to quickly remove and install the new locks to match the rest of my Thule set up. The set DOES include the change key in case you are wondering as well as two keys.
I have 2 Thule boxes that I have no keys for I have the ##off the locks in hopes to find where to get keys.Does anyone know if thats possible or am I stuck replacing the locks?Any help is appreciated,Thanks Lizz
The installation and use of the lock cylinders have been been a breeze. No problems. They have worked flawlessly! I certainly highly recommend you get them, especially if you leave your car in remote areas as we do. We have them on two Thule Hullavators, and figure the minimal cost for these lock cylinders far offset the potential cost of replacing these kayak racks.
You have to have a Thule Universal change key to remove the locks. Obviously they don't just fall out on their own, that wouldn't work so well would it?
This is a no brainer! With people out there today, the amount you spent on the rack, and the amount you spent on whatever the rack is holding this is worth every penny!
I use my locks every day pretty much to lock my new skis on my roof rack. I feel comfy knowing no one is gonna snatch them. Never had any problems with them freezing up.
the box was about 11 years old and didn't come with the locks. but for those out there with old boxes, the lock cylinders for sale here do pop into the opening mechanism. you just pop out the little black plug and insert these, then lock your stuff and don't worry about theft!!!
It really gives me peace of mind just to know my stuff is locked up. I purchased a hullavator and its expensive and when i go out kayaking i want to know my hullavator will stay safe on my truck while i am gone.
someone gave me a Thule Frontier cargo box but no key :( It has all the mounting hardware and is otherwise in great shape but I need to get the key problem solved. the box is closed and locked now...
go to a local bike shop, rack dealer or REI, Thule only makes so many keys for each box so they might have the one you need. If not they might be able to contact Thule and order the proper key for you. We had a guy come into the bike shop with a similar problem and we were able to fix it for him.
I'm guessing that you have a rack like the Thule T2 or Thule Roadway in which case you'll need one of these cylinders, but also the Thule Snug Tite STL2 (http://www.rei.com/product/755164).
The Snug Tite uses a bolt instead of just a pin, and this eliminates any movement between the rack and your hitch. It's somewhat expensive, but I leave my T2 rack on all summer long, and it's what I use and have never had an issue with it.
Thule allows you to purchase more lock cylanders and keys at these pages: http://www.thuleracks.com/product_locks.asp?Lock=true&type=thule and http://www.thuleracks.com/product_locks.asp?Key=true&type=thule
If your looking at these locks, you know what they are. This site has some of the best prices on Thule locks (I've checked); they're customer service is second to none. Shipping was Fast. If you've got Thule equipment and you want to keep it safe HERE YOU GO!
I can't believe no one has answered your question. There is no master key. All you need is the number (N###) from the lock core to order new keys. Contact Rack Attack at 1-888-399-7225 for help
I racked my 1999 Nissan Sentra and the rack looks very good on my little green car! I have a bunch of different racks and I keep buying more and I have all of my locks on 1 key so I don't have to worry about loosing keys. I would suggest buying the set of 10 locks because you will eventually buy more rack stuff and will need to buy more locks like I ended up doing. You will want 4 locks for the Fit Kit/Towers, and then more for your cargo box, ski rack, bike rack, kayak rack, etc... You can special order more lock cores that fit your key directly from Thule, but it will cost you a little bit more $.

Like I wrote over on my ski carrier review, you definitely should buy MORE lock-cores than the current number of locks you have. This way when you pick up another carrier (for your other car, or another sport) you can use the same key! These are seemless to install and give great peace of mind.
The only bad thing is that locks don't come with Thule parts. These locks are awesome, I was able to install them on the feet to attached to the bars without help in less than 5 minutes for all four! If you can afford the extra locks then you can have some for other thule racks you might install so you can just have one key. It's worth buying locks, you don't want your rack or your gear stolen!
what can be said about lock cores? the key has a nice plastic head, and the locks come in a cool little metal box (like an altoid mint container). it's these little details that make thule a superior setup. oh, and the price fluctuates a lot. i found these were even cheaper than buying used. go figure.
I used these on my Big Mouth bike rack. They were super easy to install and secure the rack perfectly by locking the bike to the rack, and the rack to the bars. Another quality product from Thule.
I bought the Crossroad Railing foot pack, LB 50 load bars, 2 Peloton bike racks, Frontier ES cargo box & an 8 pack of locks.
When I arrived to pick it up from the shipper, the Frontier ES would not fit inside my Subaru to take it home. So, raining as it was, I got to mount the feet, bars and cargo box right in the parking lot.
I sat in the car while reading the directions. Then, within 15 minutes, feet, bars and box were on, and I was headin' home.
It went on in a hurry and I've had no need to tweak the fit over the last month. The Peloton bike racks installed just as quickly, and the locks drop right in.
