Wind noise ain't pretty; turn it down.

The Thule Fairing cuts down on the drag and wind noise that your Thule bars make when you're blasting down the highway on your way to parts unknown with a roof full of gear. Thule Fairings are cake to install, and use rubber bumpers and anti-scuff film to protect your vehicle's finish. Editors Note: Please call if you aren't certain what parts you need to install your rack.

    Works as advertised!

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This fairing does exactly what it is supposed to; cuts down on wind noise and drag, increasing gas mileage.

I had put an Aeroblade load bar and fork mount bike rack setup on my VW, and couldn't open my sunroof due to the excessive noise coming off of the rack. After installation, no more issues; still a bit of noise, but it is barely noticeable.

This is not made to fit the Aeroblade crossbars, but a bit of customization to the load bars and fairing clips, and it works perfectly. There are several videos on youtube on how to accomplish this.

    excellent for your sticker collection

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I have the 44in wide version on my 2009 VW GTI. I've been living with it for about a year and a half. It cuts down on wind noise with my bars for sure, but with a bike rack too, the wind isn't completely silenced.

This is pretty easy to install, but from my experience, trying to take the fairing off the bars can be pretty disastrous... I broke all but one of the clips holding it to my front bar trying to take the fairing off a few months ago. I think the plastic had become brittle over the winter from freezing temps. Ultimately I had to buy replacement clips from a third party reseller (they're pretty inexpensive, so it wasn't a huge deal.) The fairing itself also feels pretty flimsy when you're handling it, but once it's safely attached to your car the wobble aspect isn't as much of an issue!

Hopefully Thule will invest in higher-quality plastic for their parts in the future..

Where did you purchase the 3rd party replacement clips?

could you recommend what size should i buy for Volvo v40 crosscountry 2015?

    Thule says 38"

For your Subaru '06 Impreza Outback Sport I would recommend the 38" fairing size.

What would be the best size for a 2009 VW Tiguan? Also, are you aware of there being any problems with this product and the flap that pops up when the moonroof is opened?

    Hey Zane Doe,

    Thanks for your question.

For your 2009 VW Tiguan I would suggest the 44" size in these fairings. They should not be in the way of the moonroof so adjusting that up and out should not affect them.

I hope this helps you out.

I have a 2008 Suzuki Grand Vitara with factory crossbars that are OVAL. Is there a fairing that will fit these bars? I am trying to minimize wind noise from the ski rack.

This Thule fairing will fit on your Suzuki and while you can choose the 38" or 44", I would bank on the 38" for best fit.

Same thing here. You can fit either the 38" or 44" but the recommended length for this car from other reviews I have read is the 38".

    Works Great

This is awesome at making your rack more quiet. Very easy to install. Looks awesome. I doubt it does much for your MPG.

Works great, cuts down on wind noise

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I got the 38" one for my 06' Impreza (per Thule's recommendation/configuration tool). It's a little short on both ends and leaves about a 1-2" gap on the driver/passenger side but it has no bearing on it's effectiveness. I just thought it would reach to the ends so it's flush with the crossbar mounts. That said, it works perfectly and cuts down on the wind noise from the crossbars. Assembly and installation was fairly easy, but it does feel kinda flimsy overall. Nevertheless, once it's installed you don't need to ever touch it and it really reduces/eliminates wind noise.

Hey Julian, did you notice any major difference in fuel consumption after installation? Did your MPG noticeably decrease?

I've heard of it reducing your mileage but I haven't noticed anything different by looking at how many miles I can go on a single tank. If it does change, it's fairly insignificant. So to answer your question, no, the MPG did NOT noticeably decrease :) Hope that helps!

    Works GREAT!

I bought a whole Thule system from BackCountry.com except for the lock cores that I bought from our local RackWarehouse.com. My '06 Subaru Forester looks like ... well, a SUBARU!

    Works GREAT!

I purchased the 44in fairing for my 08 Ody, but it was too big to install on the factory roof rack. Got the 38 and it works fine.

    MOAB Fairing flimsy

I bought the Moab basket and while I am happy with the basket itself, I find the fairing to be flimsy and perhaps counterproductive as at highway speed it bends back with the pressure, possibly creating MORE drag. Anybody have the same problem and can you replace the fairing with one that is more substantial??

Is there any way to lock it to the bars?

Is there any way to lock it to the bars?

Nope. But it is attached with nuts and bolts, so it would be pretty hard to remove without a lot of time. Hope this helps.
