Go with Thorlos

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

You can find cheaper socks, but these Thorlos are well worth a few extra Washington's. Been on a few trail runs and road runs so far and I'm a huge fan because of the strategically placed cushioning and the comfy fit. Five stars.

Running socks

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

I use these socks for running during the spring - fall months. I have never had a blister with these. I run 30-40 miles per week. Even on trails they help when I run through streams. I picked up my first pair a year ago from a fitness expo. Since then, I have purchased 3 more pairs.

Thorlos > Smartwool

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

I wear Smartwool quite often, but never for hiking. Because, Thorlos are the best hiking socks ever. I never heard of them until I picked up a pair in Franklin, NC. I've hiked thousands of miles in these socks. They're lightweight, durable, and super comfortable. The Thorlo Pads never wear out. Made in the USA (NC to be exact).

Is the wool organic and chlorine-free?

Responded on

Hi there! Thorlos socks aren't made out of organic wool, and there's no indication that they were made without chlorine. The good news is--Thorlos is 100% made in America, and they do a great job. Read more about their commitment to community, good manufacturing processes, and more here:

Breathes well with cush where you want

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

These socks breathe really well. They do not bunch up or move. They fit great great and offer padding where you want it. I love these and recommend them to all. These are my favorite technical socks.

Will they shrink if they get wet when running or doing some other activity?

Responded on

Merino blends these days are formulated to minimize shrinkage. As long as you don't accidentally dry them you will be okay.

Best of Merino and Thorlo

These are my favorite pair of socks because they have the Thorlo padding where I DO want it and not where I don't. The merino part stretches to closely hug your foot, while the Thorlo absorbs the shock of impact. They are also pretty durable and have not worn out. I am usually a sandal guy because I prefer barefoot, but when I do wear shoes, these are my favorite light to medium weight socks.
