Works Great

  • Gender: Male

I have the REI Lite Core 1.5 pad, which sucks, but when it was my primary pad, this thing was a great accessory. I think everyone should keep a luxury item when backpacking and this is it. Something like this will weigh very little but will make you comfortable around camp, ready to head out the next morning.

does this work with the tapered therm-a-rest sleeping pads?

Responded on

Yes. As long as the majority of the pad is at the product width, you'll be fine.

Great chair, and...

I have heard stories of pads being punctured through the bottom of these types of chairs, depending on where you happen to sit (pine forests of the east, with lots of roots, twigs, etc.... come to mind) so to protect mine, I went to my local Home Depot and picked up (for free) a scrap square of Tyvek "house wrap" which weighs nothing at all, and I just fold that up and put it under my pad before I sit down. Never had a problem, and the peace of mind is nice :)

Good, But Not For Me

I picked this guy up for a 3 week backpacking trip in AZ. Overall, it performs as expected. When you get into camp at night, just take this puppy out and fit your sleeping pad in it. Sit back and relax. However, I found that I really missed having a chair during lunch breaks and what not. I'm returning mine and picking up a lightweight Crazy Creek. To me, the weight savings of the Trekker Chair are not worth the inconvenience.

ThermaRest Trekker Chair

This piece of gear allows you to reuse your sleeping pad as a chair which is pretty cool as long as you're willing to shift the pad between your tent and the Trekker Chair as needed. That said the value of having a comfortable place to sit around camp without having to carry a separate chair in your pack makes the swapout hassle worth it.

Therm-a-Rest Trekker Chair and pad

Great chair!! Very versatile, easy set up with the Therm-a-rest- sleeping pad. I weigh 250 pounds and the chair held up just fine. Pad rolls up with the chair, so it creates more room in your pack. Highly recommend this product!

I have a pad that folds in half lengthwise. Will I be able to keep the chair on the pad while folded? How about the Therm-A-rest Compack chair?

Responded on

Yes, works great! Has a strap to keep pad in place.

I have a stoic http://www.backcountry.com/stoic-ltwt-step-sleeping-pad-regular LTWT sleeping pad, full length. it's 20" wide, so I am supposing it is compatible with this chair. Any naysayers or yaysayers? Also looking for recommendations on closed-cell pad for wintering to pair with the stoic beast.

Responded on

Yeah it should fit just fine, 20 inches wide and about 72 inches long works perfectly

Backcountry lazyboy

I love this chair. I have had mine for about 5 years now, and it is still in great condition. Really well built with strong construction. Theres nothing like setting up camp and crashing into this thing after a long hike. I used to use this chair with the older style therm-a-rest pads, but when I upgraded to the new NeoAir pad it brought the comfort to the next level!

Neil, I also have an old style Thermarest chair kit like this, but cannot get it to work well with my new NeoAir. What's the trick?

I have the same BA pad as you and it works just fine. I do not see any reason why your wife's pad wont work either

Do this chair work with other sleeping pads? say like a Big Agnes Insulated Air Core that's 20" x 66" x 2.5"

Best Answer Responded on

I asked a gear specialist at Midwest Mountaineering this question today, and he said yet it will work. Just make sure you use it with the 20" Trekker chair and not the 25".

what does this chair look like when not connect with a pad? how small does it pack? does this include a stuff sack or something to put it in when not using it?

Responded on

The chair cannot be used alone, without a pad... it rolls up around two supports which run under the seat, so doesn't pack into a ball... no stuff sack included... I leave it on my sleeping pad all the time...

Love it

Surprisingly comfortable and functional. Some padding on the bottom protects your sleeping pad. Nice to be able to sit upright and read in the tent when bad weather hits!

Has anyone tried this with a z-rest?

Has anyone tried this with a z-rest?

Best Answer Responded on

It would work due to the dimensions (the Z-Lite only comes in 20 inch width...no large size). It won't be as comfortable as a self-inflatable mattress, but would be more durable. Make sure to get the 20 inch size.

It will also work with the small Z-Lite.

Why not?

10.5 oz, you aren't going to notice this thing in your pack, and if you do, your probably packing too light to be comfortable anway... I love the idea of not having to kneel all night or sit on logs, bear poop, rocks, anthills, wet spots, or anything generally not comfortable. So why not bring along a lazyboy! It works exactly as intended, I roll mine up with my thermarest during the day, and that way its right there when I stop for camp. Just a great, easy light & cheap way to make your next packaback trip that much better.

And a quick point. Don't leave this remotely near your fire pit if you have moronic pyro buddies who like to put lots of leaves & small branch on said fire that create lots of small ashes that melt right through your expensive therma rest and leave you nice and un-mattressed out in the boonies unless you are the cook and can get back at them by taking said ashes and mixing them in their pancakes. Just lookin out for y'all...

So Far, So Good

I haven't backpacked extensively with this product yet, but as I am surveying it here in the house, I'm impressed with the overall quality of the product. The leather end-caps for the four metal bars to give the chair rigidity seem extremely sturdy and instill confidence that I can lean back and rock and not worry about puncturing the rods through the fabric. While I find the price a little high for a piece of nylon with 4 aluminum bars sewn in, I can see that this product will probably hold up for the long-haul. The only question will be if the 10.5 oz weight will provide a comparable increase in comfort. I'm betting it will.

Never Thought I'd Bring A Chair Backpacking

I use a regular $15 foam sleeping pad with this chair and it works well. Had to trim 2 inches off the side but no big deal. Can be rolled up in the sleeping pad when not in use. Light and a good price.

Works With Other Pads Too!

This chair also works with the Alps Mountaineering Lightweight Series Air Pad - Size Regular. Enjoy!
