Therm-a-Rest made the Trail Sleeping Pad for car-campers who want an affordable, durable, lightweight pad. Camping equipment for the whole family can be expensive, which is why the Trail Sleeping Pad comes in four different sizes. Therm-a-Rest made this pad right here in the USA, and gave it their lifetime warranty.
Bottom Line: Therm-a-Rest's Trail Sleeping Pad cushions your sleep without thinning your wallet.
I purchased this pad for my 3.5 year old son because if was short-- looked good when it arrived, small, lightweight, perfect size for my son to grow into. But, our first night out using it, it did not hold air. I returned it.
I had a similar problem with the trail pro that I bought, so I returned it to Backcountry in exchange for another one. Second one works absolutely perfectly and have had no problems with my second one. I wouldn't rule out thermorest because of a single faulty product as I am very happy with mine now :-)
Doesn't come with a stuff sack but they are sold here for 10 bucks. Rolled in the sack appears to be 14 x 6.5 inches. I have always folded mine longwise and then S-rolled it in a roughly square shape to store inside the pack.
I have used my Thermarest Trail Sleeping pad all over the world. I took this thing on an 11-month journey to 19 countries. It withstood every beating I could give it including inch-long thorns and cut-your feet grass in South Africa. Even after 11-months of practically always sleeping on this thing, my back was fine. No complaints from me. I wouldn't recommend another brand.

Got this as a free gift when I bought The North Face Inferno sleeping bag.
This is definitely a 3-season pad. While using it with The North Face sleeping bag during a Winter trip, I kept getting cold spots on my back and butt. I ended up laying down a jacket between me and the pad.
No. Thermarest will absorb water into the outer fabric. That said, water will not penetrate through the pad- it does hold air so water won't get into it. So you can sleep on the ground and expect to stay dry, your pad may be damp but they dry quickly. Hope that helps.
This pad isn't expensive compared to the other therm-a-rest so you get what you pay for. If you are looking for the most comfort, this one is not for you. Its great backpacking cause its lite and packs really small compared to other pads. But it could be a little thicker.
I haven't seen the previous person's question answered, so I'll ask it again. Is the Therm-a-Rest Trail Sleeping Pad self-inflating? If so, what depth does it inflate to?
I bought the short version for my kids and have heard no complaints. This is a very basic mat and I am a little concerned with yhe durability of the material. No issues yet though.
This thing is amazing. It's actually more comfortable than many beds I've slept on. Not only am I taking it on all my future backpacking and camping trips, I'm also considering using it when staying at my parents' or friends' houses. I find that giving it a puff or two of extra air past self-inflation makes it the most comfortable for me.
I purchased 2 of these at my local outfitter. Brought them up for an over nighter both failed before the end of the night!! Yes one night. I will definately be finding out where to send these for my warranty!!
