Therm-a-Rest claims the three-inch thick DreamTime sleeping pad is the most luxurious camping mattress ever made, and we happily agree. When you never carry your mattress more than the distance from your car to the tent, there's no reason to worry about weight—and every reason to make your base camp or car camping trip as comfortable as possible. A cushy foam pillow-top adds decadent comfort, while a removable stretch-fleece lining on top makes the DreamTime plush to the touch. Add in the most-durable nonslip bottom ever, and you've got a super warm, super comfortable sleeping pad that'll last the years. Grab an extra DreamTime for your partner—the included pad connectors will easily turn two mattresses into a queen-size camp bed. Pair it up with a Camp & Comfort Stuff Sack for protection and portability.
Bottom Line: Ultimate sleeping luxury for your base camp or car camping.
This is the most amazing sleeping pad, best night of sleep while camping! It's so comfortable, rolls up pretty small and is lightweight. Just buy it, you won't regret it!
This the best thing for car camping or base camping next to a futon mattress(which fits in the back of my xterra very nicely) I usually don't sleep well when out camping because my back gets stiff and sore from the wimpy foam pads but not this time. I slept great and my back thanked me. It's definetly not one you will be packing in on long trips but for the short close to the car trips it's worth it.
Will it fit in luggage for a plane ride? Help! My in laws have the hardest beds imaginable... and always want us to stay with them when we visit. Will this fit in my luggage for an international plane ride? After reading some posts, I am afraid that once inflated that I wont be able to deflate to take it home again after sleeping on it a week. does it have ties or strech straps to roll it? what am I dealing with here ? During our last trip we barrowed someone's t-a-r pad... (a thin one) and it just was not enough cushion for me and my back) Thank you in advance for your advice.
I think that you would have a hard time getting it to fit in your carry on bag. The Luxury Map might be a better choice. Here is a pic of my dreamtime crushed down about as far as it could go. The sunglasses are for scale.

All the rave reviews are true! I've used my new pad on three trips now, and I can't say enough good things. The ultimate luxury pad for the car camper. Incredibly comfortable, inflates easily, and rolls up to a reasonable size. Worth every penny! I no longer worry about getting a good night's sleep while camping.
This pad is the cat's meow! It is maximum comfort. You may adjust the air level to your preference; the layer of foam adds warmth and just enough padding. It's great for car camping. The only drawback: it is very difficult to put in a stuff sack--I gave up and use the Big Agnes Road Bag.
Help~ This sounds like a great product for me- but 32 x 10 "... Can I take it with me on a plane ride? I am used to a super plush bed and my in- laws have beds like rocks! I used someone's camping pad while I was visiting last time and still had a back ache all week- ( I am talking worse than the ground,rocks- these beds are) Help !
I live in a studio apartment and needed a pad for my sofa bed, which was just killing my back. I bought this pad because it appeared comfortable with a 3" thickness and its advertised storage space is fairly tiny. OK, this pad is very comfortable and it has the added benefit of adjustability via super-easy inflatability. The down side is that once this memory-foam pad escapes its mini-container, it can never be re-rolled as small for daily use. Why? Memory foam flattens and takes quite a while for it to puff out. Right now, the width of my rolled pad is about 2.5 feet, which is a lot bigger than the 10" I expected. If you need to solve a bad back issue, this is the pad for you. If storage is an issue, skip it.
It would definitely offer you significant R-Value, or insulation, between you and the ground. I think you would be amazed at the difference between sleeping on this pad vs. an air-only pad or a tarp. In fact, this is the most insulative self-inflatable pad you can buy! You won't even notice the cold ground with this pad. It's also incredibly comfortable. If comfort and warmth are your main needs (vs. pack size and weight), then this is the best pad available.
However, if you are planning on packing it in, the size and weight is overwhelming. The best all-around winter pad made by Cascade Designs is the Trail Pro. It's 2 inches thick, packs very small, is lightweight (2lbs), and has an R-Value around 5. This is more than adequate, using a properly rated sleeping bag, to keep you warm in the winter.
Another pad that may work that isn't so bulky (and will save you money) is the Thermarest Luxury Map. Very comfortable and very warm.
The best ultralight self-inflatable pad is the Thermarest Prolite Plus. This will require a warmer sleeping bag, but is adequate for winter use. I've used it many times and have slept very well in a tent in sub 0 temps.
The Therm-a-Rest Dream Time Sleeping Pad is a great pad if you plan on doing any car camping or when weight/size isn't an issue. The comfort is hard to beat. In fact, my boyfriend's parents recently stayed with us and were very disconcerted to see that we were making them sleep on two of these babies strapped together. They wanted us to go to Wal-Mart to get them an air mattress...but we urged them to give it a try. After one night, they were convinced! That's how comfortable these are! They spent an entire week on them. They're super durable, too.
I designed my own "Dreamtime" Pad...Here is how. For the past 5 years I've used an inexpensive egg crate foamy, cut down to just larger than my regular 'ol MUCH less expensive Thermarest (which doesn't by itself provide enough comfort anymore for me as a 50 yr old!) Stick the egg crate foamy under the Thermarest, a twin fitted sheet over the Thermarest if you want or a twin flat over both if you want and then presto...DREAMTIME on the cheap! You can use the Thermarest stuff sack that comes free with the less expensive model (at least it did years ago when I bought mine!) for the Thermarest mattress then...and two large plastic garbage bags for the foamy part with a piece of twine for transport. We long term campers have developed our own methods for creating comfort without the high price as we age!
like vern said, add items to the shopping cart then click proceed to checkout. on this page in the address section in the country drop down select other - this will change the country options and you then can select Australia. As you modify the cart the shipping charges will change.
I absolutely love my new Thermarest Dreamtime pad! Unlike the previous post I looked into what the pad consisted of. It has a Mega Rest 2" pad and a layer of posterpedic foam that apparently is very expensive to give it a super nice pillow softness. I sleep on it every night and have never been more comfortable. It is the best car camping type pad money can buy. Highly recommended!
I usually bring a 4 inch foam pad and a futon with me on car camping trips. Since this was too much to include in my luggage on Southwest airlines, I ordered a Thermarest Dream Time pad, which I was able to squeeze into a duffle bag along with my tent.
I used the Dream Time pad every night for a week on this trip. It was every bit as comfortable as the foam pad / futon combination that I usually sleep on.
My only complaint is that a stuff sack was not included in the still expensive sales price of $169. It seems rather greedy to charge an additional fee for a stuff sack!
Other than the price issue, the service from BackCountry.com was superb.
One reviewer (tony) complains about the Dream Time . . . his review is from July 2004--that's over 4 years ago. Does Backcountry.com provide info. discussing the latest Dream Time model, or is one to assume that the product hasn't been updated (and, one would hope, improved) since July 2004?
I was aware of his review when I checked out the Dream Time at a local store. The inner inflatable mattress is definitely different from the Base Camp; the Dream Time's air mattress is thicker. In the end you're probably paying a $50 premium for the fleece cover and the foam.
I have had my pad two years now. I have loved it from the first use. I use it for car camping (in a tent), in cabins, and for fly in hunting/fishing trips. It is as close to sleeping in a bed as you can get and still be camping. It makes it much nicer when the ground is uneven or a root or rock tries to ruin an otherwise perfect spot to pitch the tent. This pad is not at all suitable for backpacking. Too heavy and too bulky.
I use this pad in addition to a 1-inch thick pad inside a camping trailer I pull behind my motorcycle. It's really great. I like that it has a soft covering, and a foam pad in addition to the air bladder. They were even out of stock, and let me know that they would be a couple of months, but honored the sale price - a raincheck I guess - and that was awesome. This is a reliable and honorable internet business.
I can't say enough about this sleeping pad. If you don't mind the bulk (and who cares about bulk when you're car camping), there's simply no better sleeping pad that will fit inside a tent. I've taken mine to Moab and slept like a champ even though the ground underneath the tent was covered with bumpy gravel. Last weekend, I went back there with friends and got stuck on a fold-out couch bed. I threw my Dream Time pad on the crappy mattress and slept as good as my buddies sleeping on the real beds. Highly recommended.
Wow, this thing is so frickin' comfortable. I mean, really, it's great. Weighs a ton, but if you have friends sleep over, or sleep over at friends houses a lot, or car camp, or sleep in your car, or like to sleep under your desk at work...you get the idea. It's really comfortable.
I purchased this pad with the hopes that it would be the most comfortable sleeping pad I've ever owned. Oh baby I couldn't have made a better decision. The pad system is a little pricey at $200 but it is a very slick system. It rolls up to a fine size for car camping and inflates with relative ease. What makes this pad so special is when you lie down for the night. It is soooooo comfortable. I'm a side sleeper and at 200lbs I find that with most pads my hip bone ends up against the hard ground. Not with the Dream Time! I slept on rocky ground and it was super plush. A great buy for ulitmate comfort!
These sleeping pads work excellent. I used them for the first time last week. The pads worked excellent at different temps. Our temperatures ranged from 30 degrees to 60 degrees. Each pad has ties or straps on the side of the pad in order to secure them together for a queen sized pad. It also has 2 vents for allowing air in and out. The only disadvantage is that it's so big when rolled up 10"X32", but if you're car camping it's no big thing. I never touched the ground when sleeping on it. Overall outstanding.
It is, but you'll want to make sure you store it inflated because the pads have some memory to them (i.e. if you store them rolled up, they'll want to stay rolled up and not inflate well) That said, I like mine a little firmer and generally blow an extra breath or three into the pad after in inflates
This pad is almost funny how comfortable it is! If you want to drive to a campground through up your 4-6 person tent and have a pillow fight...this is the mattress pad that will give you the bouncy bounce you need. I took two of the XL's thinking they would fit in my Big Anges Emerald Mtn 2 person tent (http://www.backcountry.com/outdoorgear/Big-Agnes-Emerald-Mountain-SL2-Super-Light-Tent-2-Person-3-Season/BAG0060M.html) -that was just a joke...one almost covered the entire floor, the other had to curve up the side of the tent to avoid overlapping discomfort. Not for the packing trek but awesome for the family outing, mallo roasting, pillow fights...enjoy!
I got the pleasure of sleeping on the Therm-a-Rest Dream Time pad one evening while car camping ... and oh my word, I don't think I had ever had such a great night's rest while in the outdoors before! It is pretty bulky and not the lightest thing, but its not like you are tackling Everest with this thing on your back. If you want the comfort of a 5-star hotel while out bonding with Mother Nature, then this pad is for you!
I let my boyfriend's mom use this pad for a weekend car camping trip. Her thoughts: "It felt like I was sleeping on a regular bed at home!" Obviously, she was stoked on it and now wants to get one of her own.
...when sleeping with this pad. The foam is not as luxurious as described, but it does get the job done. This is the perfect car camping pad, especially if you can set up a tent on grass. Even on stony soil, slept soundly with little discomfort. I am a big guy, and my hips don't like hard sleeping surfaces, but I woke up with little complaint and after a long day of hiking, looked forward to retiring.
The Dreamtime XL may be a little bulky, but it is the next best thing to carrying your queen size mattress with you on your car camping trip. I loved the pad. It really is a very comfortable material to lay on and couldn't have felt a rock underneath me even if there was one.
This pad rocks! It is so big and comfortable. The 3 layers work well. When the ground is cold this pad keeps you well insulated. I just wish that I could take this thing backpacking!
Luxury camping indeed, concubines not included. Perfect for the back of the truck or on someone's floor. It has the pack size of about 80L so don't try bringing it beyond a parking lot unless you have a mule. Inflates fast and makes other's with you jealous even faster. Use it for your old bones or gift one to your girl to keep your camping trip 30% happier for the both of you.
While these are perfectly functional, it is $200 for a mattress that could be replaced by $20 of foam. They weigh 8lbs and roll up to about 36" long by 12" in diameter. Unless you are on horse or car, your aren't taking these far. that said, I enjoyed borrowing these and they helped me stay toasty warm and comfortable. Good but not worth it. Buy a small thermarest and a foam pad for the cold, luxury nights.
This is what you get for $200. 1) A Base Camp Thermarest quality pad, worth $90. 2) A 2 inch layer of removable foam, worth $5 3) Both of these items enclosed in a cover that has a zipper with fleece on the top side and a non-slip bottom. Thank goodness the item was returnable.
This is the most amazing sleeping pad, best night of sleep while camping! It's so comfortable, rolls up pretty small and is lightweight. Just buy it, more...
This the best thing for car camping or base camping next to a futon mattress(which fits in the back of my xterra very nicely) I usually don't more...
