Side sleeper must have

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Ok so it weighs a lot but for side sleepers it is a must have. One year old and no leaks no complaints. Being replaced with NeoAir to reduce pack weight.

Great until you try the luxury map

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

My fiance and I started camping out in the bed of my Raptor after I bought a truck tent and were waking up really sore so we bought some therm-a-rest basecamps. They really are great pads until you realize what you're missing out on with the therm-a-rest luxury maps. If you're kind of tight on space, by all means the basecamp is a great product and is considerably smaller than the luxury map. But if you're like me and you don't plan on actually carrying it on long treks, save yourself some time and sleep in total comfort with the luxury map! I still rate this product as 4 stars because it's by far more comfortable than other products out there and it feels and looks like it is made to last years and years.

No more sleeping on rocks

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Much more comfy than the ultra light pad I've been using, but it a good but bigger and heavier

Exceptional Quality

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I've had this pad for numerous years and have put it through the wringer. Its withstood the harsh wear and tear with no problems, no punctures or holes. Extremely thick and comfortable but not meant for backpacking.

So thick, we use them at home!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

These pads are awesome for car camping. Easy to clean (especially when my son threw up on it in the dent), and sleeps like a mattress. I've even taken them to the inlaws to sleep on the floor....its much better than having a sore back from the couch. You can't use this backpacking, its just not realistic. Overall, one of the best purchases from Thermarest!

awesome pad

great for getting a good nights rest and is definitely an upgrade from the non-inflatable therma-rest closed cell pads. although both do a great job of keeping your body off the ground and your body heat with you, This one is quiet a bit more comfortable.

Quality you can count on

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I have had this pad for 9 years now. All I can say is it has been through a lot and has held up to the abuse I have put it through. I have slept on the ground a lot with this and never had a hole or tear. I recommend storing it partly inflated if possible as this prolongs the life of the padding. This is not the lightest pad but is plenty light to backpack with and packs pretty small. For me this has plenty of padding but they do make thicker pads if you want more padding.

Great for sleeping

It is very comfy as you can adjust the firmness of it to your preferences. Also it is really easy to set up because you just twist the valve and it inflates itself.

Purchased two XL BaseCamp pads. Where can I find a stuff sack large enough (31 x 5.3")?

Hey, You can get them directly from MSR/Therm-a-Rest for about $20 per.
I believe the specific one you want is going to be the 36L, but contact them to verify that, and to see if it's something they can steer you towards locally.
