Love these tights, worth the investment

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

I hesitated to spend this much on running tights, but they have been worth every penny. So soft and cozy on the inside that I want to wear them all day, wonderfully warm and wind-blocking for chilly pre-winter and early spring runs (perfect for weather between -10 and +10 C on the Canadian prairies), and very durable. After a season of regular (but not heavy) use, they look almost new. I wash them cold and hang to dry though. Agree with one other reviewer about the zippers/bottom cuffs - they chafed a tiny bit against bare skin at first, but are softer now and I wear taller socks anyway in the cold weather, so no problems since then.
I wear a Small in these and am usually size 4 to 6.

Do the inner thighs pill after multiple wears?

based on the fabric composition I would not expect these to pill at all. However if you are worried at all about longevity in a poly-blend baselayer like this I would recommend machine wash cold and hang dry for cleaning.

Yes. These tights feature a drawstring adjustable waist.

Super Tights!
Super Tights!

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size

These tights have the smoothest brushed/plush feel to its interior! Super stretchy and comfortable! Zippers on the ankles are a bit uncomfortable at first but they become unnoticeable after awhile. I live in an area with super gnarly canyon winds, so they don't exactly block out wind but they are super warm. I'm a size 10 and I got a medium and it fits true to size. Awesome winter piece!

Essential Winter Tights

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

My wife got these several weeks ago and is currently ordering two more pairs. She's worn them almost daily on her winter runs and absolutely loves them. They don't overheat if her workout requires a trip to the gym before hitting the trails. Ankle zippers can sometimes cause chafing but these are unnoticeable. The rear pocket is small but easily accommodates an iphone 5. This is simply an all around great piece of winter apparel.

Is the exterior fabric smooth? Is it shiny or matte?

Responded on

Hi Karen Hyder,

Thanks for the question. The material associated with The North Face Winter Warm Tight is mostly Nylon and Polyester so it will at least have a pretty smooth feel to it. It will also be a bit shiny, but only in more intense light as a reflection.

I would say that they are mat. I have some Louis Garneau tights that are super shiny by comparison.

I have been looking for a WARM running tight when I came across The North Face Winter Warm Tight. It was a cold morning (20 degrees) and still pretty dark outside. I went for my 6.5 mile run and my legs were toasty warm the whole time. The tight did not fall, slip or ride up the entire run. And the extra fabric near the lower legs helped to keep the chill off. I liked them so much I got another pair. A really must have gear for cold winter runs!
