Description

Expect the best, prepare for the worst.

The North Face Windwall 2.0 Triclimate Jacket is ideal for those days where you just don't know what's going to happen with the weather. The windproof liner jacket should have you taken care of is the weather holds. Its breathable, windproof fleece fabric locks in enough heat to keep you toasty while you're moving through the backcountry. If those ugly gray clouds open up, however, you'll need a little more than fleece. Pull the HyVent waterproof breathable shell out of your pack and put your shoulder into the storm.

The North Face's Triclimate Jackets include an outer shell jacket for protection and an inner liner jacket for insulation. The Windwall 2.0 features a waterproof breathable HyVent shell and a Windwall windproof fleece liner jacket. The shell features a removable, adjustable hood, two zippered hand pockets, an external chest pocket, an internal chest pocket, and adjustable cuff tabs to lock out icy drafts and snow. The Windwall fleece jacket also has two zippered hand pockets and can be worn on its own as a windproof light jacket.

  • Polyester shell with HyVent
  • Windwall windproof fleece liner
  • Removable, adjustable hood
  • Two hand pockets on shell
  • Internal media pocket on shell
  • Chest pocket on shell
  • Two hand pockets on liner

Great Jacket for Extreme Cold

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

I shopped around for a while looking at and trying on dozens of combination jackets before I found this one I liked. I also called several manufacturers including North Face and talked to them about their offerings. Here's the low down:
PROS:
* This jacket is very warm and blocks the wind well. I bought it for snowmobiling in northern ME & NH. We ride in all temps and when moving we're easily in sub-zero temps. I only wore a sweatshirt underneath and it worked well. I had no problem staying warm and wind coming through it was never an issue.
* The fit on this is excellent allowing you to layer up underneath if needed. A sweatshirt or fleece will fit and still allow you full range of motion. Most other jackets I tried on from other brands were much too tight in the arms to allow anything substaintial underneath except maybe a vest. This one as well as other North Face models allow layering without impairing motion or being uncomfortable.
CONS:
* The zipper is not a very beefy one, and it doesn't zip up from the bottom. So if you are sitting, it will riding up or bunch in front. Not sure how durable the zipper will be since I only have a month under it, but I will update later.
*There are no pockets inside the shell (nor is there a wind skirt). It's solid liner, which probably helps its ability to be windproof, but doesn't allow you to carry much inside.

Overall I am very satisfied with it and would definitely recommend it to anyone who has activities in extremely cold weather for extended periods.

Love it!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

2013-2014 winter has been brutal in NY and I purchased this jacket because my apex bionic wasn't cutting when temps were consistently in the teens and single digits (and negative digits). This jacket is perfect. I love that the fleece jacket is made w/ material so the sleeves don't grab whatever shirt or sweather I'm wearing and drag it halfway up my arms when I put the coat on.
I used the hyvent shell yesterday to go out in the rain and get some snow off of my roof. It's waterproof!
When used with both layers it's really warm no issues with the sub-zero temps with this jacket on.
For those looking for fit advice, I'm 5'7" 153 lbs and the jacket fits perfectly. I can wear it with a thick sweater underneath and it's not constricting.

What size did you get? I'm 5'9" 180 lbs and curious about the comparison. I'm between a medium and a large and it depends on the brand.

Responded on

Size small. I can wear a heavy sweater under it comfortably. I thought I was between a medium and a small, but I found the small was more than adequate. I also own an Apex softshell North Face and I also went with a small on that one.

Great all around jacket!

I live in northeastern Pennsylvania right on the mountain range a few minutes from a ski resort. The winters here can be pretty harsh, hitting negative temperatures occasionally. I bought the Windwall, and a day after wearing it, I was instantly surprised at how warm I was. I went snowboarding with it on and a t-shirt on underneath and was sweating an hour later. I use this jacket daily an love it! also love the fact is comes up to my chin for those windy days, and waterproof on rainy days. The hood is also a good addition, shaped just right to keep the rain off your head but not big enough to be bothersome. The only downside, which isn't a big deal is the "fleece" isn't what I originally thought it would be, I was thinking a "thick, fuzzy layer" but it's a thin fabric, which is tightly woven, but still feels and looks nice.

Very happy

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

I did a lot of research looking for a lightweight but warm jacket and I found it happily with this one. I never feel overheated but with only a long sleeve shirt underneath I also have never felt cold. It's been a pretty brutal winter up here in ny too. I love the hood and especially the way the neck zippers for maximum cold protection. My only complaint was the inner lining is not a fleece material (the outside of the inner portion is) which is disappointing because I was hoping for that fleece sensation on my skin for extra warmth.
