Core protection for core athletes.

The North Face WindWall 1 Fleece Vest lets you travel fast and light. WindWall fabric blocks 90% of the wind, which keeps your core from being robbed of its warmth. The sleeveless design packs into a minimal space and allows complete freedom of movement for your arms. The North Face standard fit gives the WindWall vest plenty of room to fit over a base layer without making it too bulky to be used as a mid-layer. The North Face rounds out the WindWall with a hem cinch cord that you can draw tight to prevent the chilly air from creeping in.

Great vest

I usually wear just a polo in the fall season, with no problem, but on the windier days i wanted something that wasn't going to make me sweat, and this vest does the job just fine. It was a wonderful purchase overall.

The North Face Windwall 1 Fleece Vest - Men's Small

This is a very lightweight vest, good for Summer or Spring wear. Not really useful in Fall or Winter if you wear it as a layer under a jacket..

Had this vest for over a year, and it's still in great condition. I wear this thing almost every day and I don't think i could be more happy.I'm 6 ft. and 160 lbs. and the small fits perfect.

Nice Vest

I use this vest under my Oakley Shell when the temp drops below 25 degrees. Keeps me warm, and fits well. I'm 6', 230 and wear an XL.

Excellent layer

Great for layering. Used as a base with several layers or as a single warming layer over two days in the low 20's. Lots of stop and go at all hours, was great to take on and off when needed. Loved the new green color best of all. Would have liked a third chest pocket, inside or outside.

Awesome vest!

I got this vest for $50 on outlet. Couldn't be happier. Wind does not get through this baby. I wear it over everything and wear it everywhere, but it fits perfect over a hoodie. It's not as bulky as the down vests, but it still keeps your upper torso warm! Plus this particular TNF fits well and according to size(some TNF items don't fit well even in the right size). Highly recommended!

oh yea

This vest rocks, I've owned 3 of these and for comfort and warmth it can't be beat. I love the Zippered pockets!

Great windproof vest, all purpose use!

I was loyal to the Patagonia equivalent of the TNF Windfall Vest for the last 5 years. I still wear it to this day. It's great quality, always looked new even after many washes etc.. but after a few years I figure it's time to get a new one, even though it still wears perfectly... so I got the TNF Windfall on sale here and I love it just as much. It's just as good if not better. It's an all occasion, all weather essentially windproof thin fleece vest. I wear it out with shorts, jeans, backpacking, it keeps me warm when worn over a wicker shirt, etc. I wear it hiking, backpacking, lounging, going to the store, etc...I got the mens small and it fits me perfectly (5'7", 154lbs, 40chest/31waist). Everyone needs one of these, they are just that all purpose useful. I'm not trying to sell anyone on it or a particular brand. I literally live in this as the post below states and stand by these windfall/windproof fleece type vests as really all purpose technical gear that looks great just wearing with jeans into the city too.

This is not winter gear but it is decent 3-season gear.

essentially nothing - one is spring model, and the other a fall model. The interior color is slightly different, but the vest is the same.

Coach Rich

Ouch! Bought a Khumbu fleece vest, 200 weight, at North Face Outlet in Berkley, Ca. today. I'm not sure if it measures up to the Wind Wall 1 fleece. At $26.99, I hope I did OK. Using it with the Khumbu 200 fleece jacket, should meet my needs.Very comfortable!!!! ( no draw string at the waist)

Enjoying the vest

As other reviewers have noted the vest blocks wind very well and makes a great layer for cool weather running. It is not as insulated as I thought it would be but this was just my misunderstanding. Regarding sizing, I am 5'6" 138lbs, and the small fits me very well with plenty of room to, um, grow.

How does the Windwall vest fit? I am usually inbetween sizes, L and XL. An L just fits. I usually wear layers under a vest, ie, long sleeve shirt or sweatshirt, so should I go for an XL? I also heard that the material is a lint magnet. Is this true?

I'm not so sure about this being an athletic fit. I found it to be the boxiest fit of any vest I've ever owned. I bought the Large and was swimming in it. When I got the Medium, I was still swimming in it, but kept it anyway.

I'm not really impressed with this vest and don't use it hardly at all. The Windwall fabric doesn't compress down well and it feels like cardboard--very stiff. There are better vests out there.

I Practically Live In This Thing

I didn't expect such a wonderfully versatile product when I bought this vest. It's quite windproof, much more so than the fleece found on TNF's more popular Denali jacket/vest. This vest is fairly light in material so you can layer it on top of a tee and underneath a technical shell. Styling is great but be sure you order the right size (I wear a 42R suit jacket and am happy with a Medium for this vest). I've washed my vest about a dozen times since I've had it and the fleece is starting to pile. Despite this, it still looks presentable.

When you dry your fleece after washing it throw a tennis ball in the dryer with it. It cuts down on the piling of the fleece. Been doing it for years on my fleece and it still looks brand new!

The zip is very difficult to attach at the bottom, before you draw it up. Are they all? Or is this just a bad model?

It's a favorite

I bought this vest for my husband last year and he has practically lived in it ever since! It is very stylish and flattering and keeps him warm in the spring, fall and winter. The fit is true to size and it holds up very very well -- you would never know that he has worn it as much as he has. I would definitely recommend it - it's a great product at a great price. Even better, it does an excellent job of blocking the wind!

How much does this vest weigh? If between sizes (Chest meas.)should I order up or down? thanks, Ken

Responded on

I can't help you with the weight, but if you're in between and you're not really really close to the smaller one, size up because it will allow you to layer under the vest better and it won't be really tight and uncomfortable around your chest.

Good vest

I ordered this vest a couple months back to help add a little extra warmth to morning walks and for layering when I travel to colder climates (I'm in Texas). It has done great in both respects and has proved to be very useful and versatile. The vest is comfortable, soft, yet still feels like it's rugged enough to take on a good long hike. I'm happy with my purchase and would definitely buy it all over again.
