Let it blow.

Combine the breathability of fleece with wind protection of a shell and you get The North Face Women's WindWall 1 Fleece Jacket. Unlike WindStopper and other wind-blocking fleece, TNF’s proprietary 100-weight WindWall fabric provides awesome wind protection, yet allows enough air permeability so you stay drier during aerobic activities. This year The North Face has bonded a layer of fleece to the inside of the jacket for extra-cozy warmth as you run, ski, bike, or simply stroll around town on a breezy day. Cinch the hem drawcord to completely seal out the wind, and get outdoors.

The North Face Windwall 1 Fleece Jacket

Great fleece-like jacket to wear in the fall!

The only con is that the Juicy Red appeared to be a tint of hot pink when I viewed it online; when I received it, it was more of a coral color. I am fine with coral, but it was a bit deceiving.

Great jacket

I love this jacket. I bought the Baja Blue that looks dull in the picture but is a very pretty blue in real life. It does stop the wind and keeps the warmth in. The sleeves are not too slim fitting which is something I find a bit annoying in my other TNF fleeces as I wear a chunky sports watch. It looks stylish on and is really comfortable to wear.

Nice jacket

At 5'10" I have a longer than average torso and this jacket in a L fits just fine. I could have fit an M but wanted this for layering. Great wind protection, I've worn it out on the WA beaches and stayed warm!

A tad short

Overall this is a great quality jacket but it was a little short on me ( I have a long torso). I'm 5'8 138lbs and ordered a size S ( size chart reference) and the sleeves and shoulders fit perfectly. Taller ladies should probably look at another NF style.
This also isn't a cozy soft fleece that i would normally layer with, the windwall is great on its own and does stop wind that cuts through regular fleece jackets.

is the outside shell on the black tnf fleece??

Responded on

I'm going to interpret that what you're asking is does this come with a shell jacket. If that's the case, no. This is a wind resistant fleece that is fuzzy on the outside, and has mesh lining fabric.

Love it!

I love this coat! It is great with blocking the wind. Good for spring riding. I am 5'2" I bought a large and it has room for a hoodie or long sleeve if I need some extra layers. I would definetly recommend this jacket! LOVE the purple too!

pretty good jacket

Overall, its a great jacket. if you keep your pockets zipped it'll keep you warm and protect you from the wind. you may overheat after a while if you wear it to run however, so walking/hiking or casual use is good.

The only complaint i have is that it runs short. for 5'2, i expected the small to be just right for me. The overall fit was great, however i feel it is too short.

Another positive, it still looks new after several uses. it does not collect lint and the fleece does not look worn like with other fleeces.

Adequate for the job

I gave this 3 stars because it is windproof but I didn't keep it because it is short, the x-small was a bit snug and the small was a bit big (I'm 5' 5" and 115lbs), and I wasn't crazy about the color. I ended up splurging on the patagonia windproof jacket because it is longer, better color, more comfortable, and probably warmer.

I love this fleece, it is very warm, it does block the wind, it looks good and it feels the material is great quality, I like it so much I would like to have it in all colors.

Awesome jacket

Just got the jacket today and I'm wearing it as I type. It fits great, cool color (octopus blue), and it definitely is windproof. I am impressed with this fleece jacket! Thank you, Backcountry! That was like super fast shipping.

Sizing trouble

I am a 5' 5", 105 lbs, wear XS usually. however the XS fitting was almost too short and snug. Sleeves just barely fit. color and material was good, as expected from TNF. Check your size before you buy, else you have to pay to return something that doesn't work for you.

Favorite Fleece

this is a great fleece. i've had it for a year now and i love it. it even came with me on a two week backpacking trip. it was great there and its great at home. i'm pretty small and it fits a bit boxy on me, but nothing too bad. its very warm and it really is windproof!

great with the matching vest

If you wear the windwall vest and jacket together, you will be invincible! Although it doesn't really get *that* chilly in Central VA, I'm a transplant from SW Florida and have a low tolerance for the windy cold. I love the feel of the windwall fleece! Much sleeker looking than the Khumbu jacket, and I like the roomy, raglan style sleeves. Seems like there will be plenty of room for a bulky sweater or hoodie underneath. The length of XS is perfect on me, at 5ft tall - though, I still think there could have been another inch on the sleeves.

If you really want to roast, wear the Osito underneath.

Windwall fleece jacket

Just received this jacket today. I'm usually a small sized person but this one feels a little loose and the sleeve is long. XS will be better but its too troublesome to return, so i dont mind wearing slightly loose. Overall it feels warm and light, a great jacket and value for money.
The service from backcountry was awesome, staff was helpful in helping me placed the order and the delivery was fast. I have since ordered more products from them after this first order.

Daughter loves it!

Great jacket. My daughter loves the fit and it's the right weight. Great wind breaker.

What is the cold rating on this jacket?

Responded on

Hi Becky. I don't think there's an official cold rating for this jacket - however I have gone running in this when it was ~20 degrees and a bit windy and it kept me warm. It'll keep you warm from the 40s-60s with a 10-15mph wind, but anything colder will probably depend on what temps you're used to and how active you'll be when using the jacket.

First puchase a Winner

Bought The NF Windwall (small) for my 5'1 wife who never believed in "Tech" gear. She is now a true fan and appreciates the quality. Shipping was fast, jacket exactly as described with a perfect fit to be able to add a light sweater underneath. Thank you Backcountry! Bryan B.

Does it have an inside pocket at chest height? How does it look after a few washes? Does it have the white lint/soap specs?

Responded on

No inside pocket. Looks great after many washes. Mine is 3 years old and has been washed lots. No lint specs, pilling or anything else unsightly. I hang mine up to dry. Dries very quickly here in Utah.
