Its not water proof but will shed some light rain since it is Nylon. If you are worried about the contents of the bag getting wet due to standing outside for a prolong period of time during some precipitation I would put the items in a garbage bag then in this bag. Some Nikwax will help it shed water even more http://www.backcountry.com/nikwax-tx-direct-spray-on-5oz

This bag is not waterproof. If you are looking for something like that, I would check out the North Face Base Camp Duffel. While the base camp does have backpack straps, it does not have wheels. Also, Watershed Drybags are great. Also, like the guy beneath me said, nikwax could be a good option.

This is the perfect no-frills travel duffle.

The interior compartment is spacious and could easily transport everything I need for all but the most involved trips (if anything, the bag is maybe a little too big for my average vacation). Build quality is top notch as expected, the fabric feels durable and the zippers are robust.

The wheels are a nice feature, but I frequently prefer to just carry the bag. Those who rely on this feature should be pleased with functionality.

Awesome rolling bag- it's lightweight, unlike a lot of roller bags out there, leaving the weight to whatever you want to pack, which is really handy when you're flying. Only complaint is that it is a bit small for leaving on big trips, it's more a medium sized bag.
