Great layer!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: Runs small

This was my next to skin go to layer all last season. Very comfortable and a good fit. Runs extremely small! I am anywhere from medium to large but I got an XL on Ingrid's advice and it fits snug. I do appreciate the length, great for tucking in ski pants.

How does this compare to a mid weight merino wool as far as warmth goes? Trying to find the best base layer for January Colorado skiing.

Caroline,

Countries have fought wars over that subject. The honest truth is that while some Merino midweights will be a little warmer than this shirt, the stretch in The North Face Warm Crew Neck Top will give you greater mobility and it will do better with moisture wicking and breathability. Its a personal decision but I usually go with synthetic over merino if I know I will be very active and likely to work up a sweat.

great base layer

This one wicks moisture well and looks good. I ordered a size up and it's the perfect size for functioning well but also hanging out after skiing and not looking too geeky in a super "techy" top. :) Also, a size up makes for a good length.

Nice

This is a nice baselayer. Kept me warm under my softshell ski jacket in 30 degrees out in the snow. It fits a little too snug in my opinion. Wish I had ordered a size up but it will be nice if I want to double my layers so I am going to keep. The North Face makes nice quality clothing.

Great shirt. Very comfortable with a flattering fit. I am buying more than one. I just wish it came in more basic colors.
