The North Face Vostok Down Parka does justice to its namesake, which is a research station in Antarctica where the temperature averages around -67 degrees Fahrenheit. Suppress arctic chills with the Vostok’s durable and weather-resistant design.

  • Lofty 700-fill down keeps you warm in brutally cold conditions, and the abrasion-resistant nylon withstands years of wear and tear
  • Waterproof protection and a DWR finish complement the parka’s breathability so you find the ideal blend of dryness, comfort, and warmth
  • Fully adjustable full-coverage hood with faux fur trim ensures your ears don’t turn into ice cubes
  • Expansion zips at lower back allow for freedom of movement when you engage in more demanding outdoor activities in the bitter cold, like Eskimo handstand contests

Bottom Line: Built for the insulting cold.

not even close, this coat was real nice but i was completly dissapointed by the lack of down in the lower sleves and my arms would get cold. you wont have that problem with canada goose jackets, but dont try to buy a canada goose on ebay there are alot of fakes on ebay.

EXTREME WARMTH BUT EXTREME WEIGHT!

By:
October 26, 2010

1)The North Face Vostok is an extreme parka - for extremely cold conditions.
2) Alert: It is very heavy in weight! At 54.3 ounces you really feel the weight of this North Face Parka. For most gearheads, this parka is simply a bit too heavy!!!
3) On the plus side, it is durable and will last.

BOTTOM LINE - OTHER LIGHTER PARKAS = MORE COMFORT!
1) TNF Vostok is an awesome parka!
2) But comfort is an important need for most of us!
3) For greater comfort than this parka, meaning lighter weight and ease of mobility, there are other down parkas that will provide equivalent warmth to the Vostok, and still provide far greater comfort in terms of lighter weight and greater mobility - in extreme cold!
3) The Mountain Hardwear Absolute Zero Parka succeeds in providing warmth for Extreme Cold, and is far lighter and more comfortable than the Vostok.
FOR MOUNTAIN CLIMBING, AND EXTREME COLD, THE MT. HARDWEAR ABSOLUTE ZERO IS THE PARKA OF CHOICE!

excellent review. the vostok is for the person that wants to feel warm in real cold. 99% of the people want a coat that they can throw on and go somewhere in the winter without getting chilled. These folks aren't climbing physical mountains. They just want to be warm while bringing home the groceries! North Face has other light weight parkas with 700 fill for technical mountaineers. Look at your need and buy appropriately

When I get the right size, it will be a keeper!

By:

This is a beautifully made, very warm coat that has all the features I wanted plus it looks so great! The cuffs seal to keep the cold out and everything works to keep you comfortable. My only con is that I consulted the North Face sizing chart, which indicated that I should be a Large, but when the coat came and I tried it on it was way too big. I have a 44" chest but this fit me like it was an X-large or even XXL ! I did love this coat though and will be ordering a medium for sure when it comes back in stock for the coming season. Backcountry.com made it very easy to take care of the return.

Amazing parka!

By:
November 5, 2011

I have owned many The North Face items over the years. This parka is at or near the top in my opinion. I am 5'8'' and 145lbs and this parka fits me well in a mens small which was hard to find in stock. I purchased the black model and am not really a fan of the other colour combinations. In 2010 there was taxi cab yellow and black, blue and black, and red and black, and black on black.

PROS: extremely warm - 700 down fill, durable outside fabric, light for a parka (200g lighter than my old TNF McMurdo/400g lighter than my current TNF Sabretooth parka), range of motion in the parka is very good (does not feel constrictive), inner cuff is a nice touch and makes the sleeves fit better, waterproof and breathable, lots of pockets, looks sharp!

CONS: more improvements than cons really>>would like to have soft fabric/hand warmer material inside the pockets instead of cold nylon, hem cinch cord at the waist would ensure a more snug fit.

I've worn many parkas from TNF over the years: Mt Erebus, Double down parka, Chinook Convertable Parka, McMurdo, Gotham, Sabretooth, as well as a Canada Goose Chilliwack and this parka is a cut above all of them. This Vostok jacket is a nice alternative to the Canada Goose parkas many people are wearing these days as I feel it is constructed better. The Canada Goose parkas have less down fill, is only water resistent with the DWR coating, I found the wrist cuffs to pill after a couple of months. Construction and durability is important is important to me if I'm spending this much on a quality winter parka! Will be enjoying this parka for many winters. Highly recommended.

Hi Russian_o, we are similar in build. I think a small would suit you better. I did try on a medium and it was too long in the sleeves and arms. With a small, you can definitely wear a sweater or hoodie with room left. I feel it fits better with a sweater on actually. This is a parka so it isn't like a fitted pea coat. So a small is my recommendation. Hope that helps.

Hi!

I'm 5'9'' and 142lbs but my shoulders are rather wide. Do you think it's absolutely must to go with S for me? Did you try M as well by chance? And with S do you have extra room for something like sweater?

Thanks a lot! Your review was really helpful!

Great! You'll love the parka. I tried on a medium Gotham and it fit fine, but found the sleeves a tad long , so I went with a small Gotham. I couldve bought a medium Gotham and be happy with it though but prefer it to not look too baggy like a gangsta! :) I eat rice almost every day. lol.

Thanks, Kostas. I tried on a medium and the sleeves were way too long for my frame. I think the jacket in small would fit perfectly for you with the extra weight. I wish I had a bit more meat to fill out my Vostok! It is a tad loose around the torso, hence my 'con' was to have a waist cinch cord. Hope that helps. Let me know if you need measurements. Vince.

This jacket runs HUGE. I just got back from The North Face store. I am 5'10" 205lbs with a 42/44 chest. I started with the large and was SWIMMING in it. Moved down to the medium and was still very big. The small actually fit me very well. I doubt you need more than the XL or even the Large. If I were you, I'd order two and send one back as you might be surprised.

The XL will probably work, depending on how much you want to layer and how loose or tight you like the fit. There is a sizing chart under the price for more information.

Vostok in the City

By:
December 12, 2011

I am 5'7, 165 lbs and just purchased a men's medium (in solid black). After trying on the parka with both a heavy sweater as well as without the sweater and just an oxford shirt, I would say that the Vostok is fairly true to size if you prefer a parka that is not restrictive and reasonably tailored. I plan on wearing it here in Manhattan (NYC) where the temps drop in hurry and the whippy winds can be incredibly biting - especially as they dance around and in between the high rise buildings. To me, this is the quintessential city jacket if you want to remain comfortably warm and dry, regardless of Mother Nature's twisted sense of humor.

Does the sizing on the Vostok line up with the McMurdo? I can't

Does the sizing on the Vostok line up with the McMurdo? I can't find a Vostok locally to try on before I order. I fit nicely in a TNF McMurdo size M, but have a size L Denali. I'm guessing their parka sizing lines up...but just checking to be sure. I'm 6'0, 185-190 athletic build.

The North Face Vostok Down Parka - Men's

By:
October 9, 2011

I wore the Vostok Parka for the first time at work this week. Temperature was above freezing, altitude was above 10,000 feet. Wind was 50 to 60 mph.First time ever that I have stayed warm and comfotable under these conditions. The parka was actually lighter than the many layers of clothing that I have had to wear in the past, working in these conditions. This parka is Fantastic.

I am interested in buying this parka in black (size XXL)

Is there a chance that you can get hold of it? I have no problems with waiting a little bit longer!
As I live in Germany - do you ship to my country or is there a TNF policy against shipping to Europe? Currently this parka is completely sold out in Germany!

Thanks
Tobias

Runs 1.5 Sizes Large

By:
November 29, 2011

I own a LOT of TNF gear, and I have for 15 years straddled the line between size L and XL. I've typically opted for XL. Shocked that I had to go down to a Medium for a proper fit. I am 6'0", 210 lbs.

I am 6'4" and 230lbs, and the XL was HUGE on me, it almost had enough room for another me. I ordered a L to see what the fit was like, I'll report back when I get it.
