A fully waterproof breathable 3-in-1 jacket with an insulated liner.

The North Face Men's Vortex Triclimate Jacket hits Mother Nature head-on to make your next ski adventure incredible, no matter what it's like outside. Either the shell jacket or the liner jacket can be worn alone or, depending on the weather, can be zipped together to form one ultra-mega jacket.

The Vortex's Triclimate system consists of a waterproof, breathable, fully seam-taped HyVent two-layer shell for protection and a toasty liner jacket for insulation. The shell features an adjustable, removable hood, adjustable cuff tabs, and a snap-down powder skirt to lock out icy drafts and snow. The shell also includes zippered underarm vents to allow you to quickly regulate your core temperature. Two hand pockets, two chest pockets, a wrist accessory pocket with an included goggle wipe, and internal media and goggle pockets organize all your on-mountain necessities. The polyester liner jacket features Heatseeker synthetic insulation and two zippered hand pockets.

Nice features, but bulkier than expected

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Medium

Really nicely designed 3-in-1 system, best combination of features that I found: lots of pockets, pit zips, snow skirt, removable hood (doesn't store in collar though); zip-in insulated lining warm but not too bulky. Colors and patterns nice looking (I ordered the Monument Grey blue accents). But shell was quite bulky (even though removable liner was not) -- I think it was true to size (medium), but just cut more like a parka than a jacket for sports or other outdoor activities. It felt like I was wearing a big potato sack -- even without the liner -- so I would definitely classify it as a "relaxed" fit. (My wife said it made me look "dumpy"... ) So I ended up returning it and ordered a regular rain shell instead.

    Great jacket

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Med.

I bought this vortex 3 in 1 jacket after buying and returning Patagonia's better sweater 3 in 1. While the H2 No fabric may be better than the Hyvent material, the pockets and features on the north face jacket are clearly more suited for my needs- it's a versatile jacket that I can wear skiing and hiking in a variety of conditions, and the shell and liner will work in the spring and fall for me here in New England. The north face Medium fit is so much better for me as well at 5'8" / 150 lbs. It was rated as a best buy by some outdoor magazine too. Price wise, the North Face was a clear winner over the Marmot and Arcteryx counterparts, so unless this jacket bombs out on the slopes next winter ( I didn't get to test it in really cold weather this winter), I will be very happy about this great Back Country purchase!

    Fits great and very versatile

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Large

I usually wear a large, and occasionally a large-tall, but the jacket fits perfectly. Though we've had a mild winter in Chicago terms, it has kept me warm all winter. The liner alone is very warm, and combined with the outer shell it keeps me warm down to single digits. All the pockets and versatility you'll ever need.

good jacket not warm enough for under 30

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: medium

Very good looking jacket which you can seperate inner and outer jacket and used on different seasons.

Outer shell is very nice and waterproof and tough Hyvent dual layer to withstand snow and rain.

Inner layer can be worn on warm and dry day.

all nice except cannot be used under 30degrees outside.
You will have to wear layers inside or wear thicker jacket.

I changed it for a mountain light jacket, if you want light weight warm jacket to be used above 30 degrees.

    Too Wet

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Medium

Bought this jacket last season for a big ski trip to Park City and Jackson Hole. Had a couple of snow days, and the jacket was straight up soaked through. Most of the zippers just let water through. I had some stuff in the pockets that wasn't just damp, it was wet. Very displeasing. Also the interior "media pockets" had only a small piece of velcro to keep them closed. All around miss by The North Face.

Is the hood on this product removable?

    Unanswered Question

Does the Asphalt Grey/TNF Black/TNF red jacket come with the same red liner that the north face website shows? (Just check because I don't see it in the pictures.)
