fun, versatile

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

stable, sturdy, sticky approach shoe. easily scrambled over low fifth class and comfortable on the approach hike in, although I did not have a heavy pack. they seem pretty sturdy and well-made, and have no signs of unusual wear, so far.

Collapsed Under Pressure

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

I bought these shoes for a trip to the Tetons. The fit well, they were comfortable and I was happy with them going into my trip. However, they literally collapsed under the weight of my gear. I admit, I had a heavy pack planning 5 days in the backcountry including climbing gear, but the heal support flattened making for uneasy hiking/scambling. TNF took them back as warranty defective and gave me a refund because I wouldn't accept another pair as I could not trust them to last the trip. the only reason I am not giving the 1 star is because of the weight of my pack.

I've hiked Mt. Princeton and Mt. Yale in them so far and found them to be fairly comfortable to walk in and have great grip while boulder hopping.

Great so far.

European fit? Or standard fit?
I'm a size 10 in almost all TNF shoes besides my Backpacker and S6K boots which seem to be designed on the narrow side in which I wear a size 10 1/2. Should I get these in 10 or opt for a half size bigger?

Hey Brett,

These should fit more like the TNF shoes you normally wear and I would suggest going with size 10 (standard by the way).

Poor durability

Initially loved these sticky approach shoes but the stitching failed on both shoes during the first 10 days on a climbing trip. Returned them to North Face. They did not repair or replace...just sent me a gift card valid only at North Face.

Very nice shoe!

Great for moderate hikes and daily wear. Stylish enough that I've received several compliments on it.

Bomber, Sticky and Sexy.

I just spent a month in these shoes on a first ascent adventure in the Ukraine and was putting some hard miles of heinous hiking, talus hopping and technical approaching, and was really impressed with this shoe. This shoe is sticky and I've soloed the 1st flatiron in Boulder in it 5.4. Best of all this shoe is durable, unlike some approach shoes that just self destruct in the talus. Finally, I think this shoe looks good on you feet. I wore it to the bar, had a whiskey, and felt like a boss.
