Ii was looking for a good quality, great fitting rain pant, and this is it! Fits my body (5'6"/120lbs) perfectly. Not too baggy, rise just right. Good weight, not noisy fabric. Easy on/off. Comfortable all day long. Haven't tested in a downpour yet, but kept me dry all day gardening in wet, drizzly conditions. Highly recommend!

I want to write to North Face and thank them for these pants. I am 145lb and 5'9 with a 33" inseam and the mediums fit me nicely with a pair of hiking pants underneath. I took them on a 3 day long 20 mile hike and 20 mile packraft trip off of the Denali Highway (re: very remote) and it poured for 2/3 days and there was plenty of bush wacking through soaking brush. They got soaked in my pack on my pack raft (while I was in a dry suit), but still managed to keep me very dry. I love the pockets. The side zippers were really nice at the end and beginning of each day to be able to slip my already shoed feet into them. Bottom Line: They dry relatively quickly, didn't get punctured in burly bush-wacking scenarios, fit really well, and the pants never stopped protecting me from the rain. Attached is a photo of some of the more tame terrain (on our one sunny day), because hey, it's a great picture of a beautiful trip!

Hey I'm confused! The guy down below said the mediums have an inseam of 30.5"? That would be too short for me and I don't want to buy them unless they are actually long enough...
Thanks... :-)

I just received a size Medium-Regular in this pant, and it is too short for me. I am 5' 8" and had thought I'd ordered a pant with a 32" inseam (That's what it said at the other company's web site from which I ordered.) But the pant I received has an inseam of 30.5." I love its features and the general comfort and intelligence of its cut; but it hits too high and swill let water into my boots, and so won't do. (Actually, I ordered it to replace a too-short rain pant by Patagonia. I'm not going to make the same mistake twice.)
Because the hang tag from Lowe Alpine bothers to specify that this too-short pant is Medium Regular, I suppose that there must exist a Medium TALL, which I'd snap up immediately if I could find it.

Those are great pants but I couldn't decide whether to have those or the "plain" venture (without the side zip) so I ordered both to try (the gear expert thought that'd be the best idea) and it turned out that I like the "plain" ones better (see review there). I can see "theoretically" why the side zip would be "cool" when you want to get on and off the pants with your winter boots on but in practice it's a lot of zipping on and off and then making sure the velcro tapes are done properly (there are lots of them on each side for waterproof purpose) - just takes way too much time in the freezing cold outside. And if you are indoors, then you don't really need to side zips. The "plain" venture pants is one piece so less "possibility" of something going "wrong". :) All this is to say that if you like those pants because of the side zips, then by all means they are great rain gear but in my opinion, side zips are "troublesome" and unnecessary.

Actually, the side zips are also very useful for venting. When you are working hard skinning or climbing uphill you can generate more moisture than any "waterproof, breathable" fabric can vent. Open the side zips and voilla, no more moisture to chill you later when you stop for lunch on the hill.

Are the wind proof?

Sharon, they do not list a windproof rating at the TNF website but with them being waterproof and with the Hyvent material they should be fairly windproof. I do not believe there is any adjustment for length.

I work as a Horticulturist in Ireland .
I have these pants two years and they are fantastic to wear in Summer (even our real summer!) You dont feel like you are wearing them . The feeling of clammy rainbottoms in summer is a thing of the past !
fabulous!

These fit extremely well, even over jeans. They are light and comfortable while keeping you bone dry in wind-driven rain. With the side zip they easily slip off over rain boots. I love them!
Great Pants!

I am typically an 8 in TNF, and I picked up a Medium. I'm am very happy with their fit. They are a touch long, but I remedy that by rolling the waist. I love that they have zipping pockets! I haven't tried them in the rain yet as it hasn't been above freezing for the at least a month, but I'm sure that they will hold up to their claims. These pants have been indispensable for my early, cold morning runs with my dogs. I've been layering them over a pair of winter tights or capilene. This setup is warm enough until it gets really cold. When the temps drop below 15F, I throw my knee high gaiters on to trap the heat and I stay toasty warm.

Definitely think so as i wore mine over a pair of hiking pants and they fit fine.
I have a pair of medium pants (kind of a large fitting pants as I thought i would normally be a large). They fit women with curves!
Wore them hiking in Patagonia recently and they were great!
Defintely recommend them.

Would you use these to snowshoe?....I need warmish pants to snowshoe and I need to keep the backs of my legs dry...kick back from my snowshoes makes the calves wet. If I wore long underwear under them would they be warm enough?

If you're just snowshoe walking they should be fine, but I'm a little more skeptical about how well they breathe if you're going snowshoe running.

I recently wore these on a hiking trip to the Olympic Peninsula in WA. Very wet and rainy area known for its high rainfall and temperate rain forest. Although it is true that these pants do keep out water whether it be mist, fog or rain the fit is lacking. They are very high in the waist and fit more like men's pants than womens. I recommend getting one size smaller than what you wear. I'm a size 14 and the XL was way to big on me. The pants are very durable, I fell several times on slippery terrain and the pants did keep me nice and dry and no rips were seen. When walking you get the tell tale swish, but that's to be expected with rain pants. If you're looking for durable adventure then these pants are for you, but if you want to show that you have any shape then choose something different.

I recently went on a backpacking trip through Alaska, and true to its word, not a drop of rain ever touched my legs. They are extremely lightweight, and very durable. They were a little baggy on me, I'm 5'4 and bought a size small, but they kind of reminded me of snowboarding pants! I would definitely recommend these to anyone looking for true waterproof pants. *Happy hiking!*
