Description

Shelter from the storm.

The North Face Men's Venture Jacket uses recycled nylon ripstop instead of conventional petroleum-based materials, earning it an Editors' Choice Green Award from Backpacker Magazine. Waterproof and breathable, the jacket's HyVent (2.5-layer) membrane blocks outside moisture while allowing built-up perspiration to evaporate.

A fully adjustable hood closes tightly to combat fierce winds and driving rain. The brushed chin guard lining gives a soft and scratch-free feel when the jacket is fully zipped. For convenient storage, this jacket easily folds into its hand pocket for portability when hiking, climbing, and backpacking.

  • Waterproof, breathable HyVent (2.5-layer) membrane
  • Recycled nylon ripstop (40D) shell
  • Fully adjustable hood
  • Hem cinch-cord
  • Brushed chin guard lining
  • Stowable in hand pocket

Here's what others have to say...

I'm 5 8 and 185 lbs, I got myself the large one which seems to be a good fit for the chest and shoulders, however the sleeves are too long, why is that?

Responded on

Akram, comes down to the way the jacket fits. This particular piece caters to a boxier fit with average arm length. There are some other options that cater to shorter arms, Ill see if I can find a few and email them over.

Feel free to hit me up at bporreca@backcountry.com or 801-736-6398.

Great, simple jacket.

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Height: 6' 1"
    Weight: 210 lbs
    Size Purchased: Large

I was looking for a good rain jacket and this fit the bill! Not super technical, but it breaths ok and most of all it compresses nicely. For the price....it's pretty hard to beat.

I think it's "true to size" since it's not super technical, but it's more on the large size if anything.

I am 146 lbs and about 5 foot 8 inches. What size should i go with since when I measured my chest I was 31 inches?

Responded on

Their size chart recommends the XS for you. However, my measurements are barely smaller than yours, and I wear a men's small, in North Face. So, would suggest going with the small size.

Boyfriend's Birthday Gift

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
  • Fit: True to size
  • Height: 6' 2"
    Weight: 250 lbs
    Size Purchased: xl

Bought this as part of a birthday present for my boyfriend. HE. LOVES. IT! Its the perfect spring weather jacket! He always complained of other jackets feeling like a sauna, but this one is well ventilated and waterproof at the same time. Also looks super great too!

Great

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs large

What a great piece of equipment!!! I have used it in most conditions since I got a couple of week ago its is extremely light and stops even the heaviest rain! The only complain I have is the sleeves are a bit bigger than I thought. It is a very big issue for me that you can pack it in its own pocket! Awesome jacket!!!

Emphasis on the XTRA in XL.

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: Runs large
  • Height: 5' 10"
    Weight: 200 lbs
    Size Purchased: XL

Had to get the XL bc of the chest/neck, but it looks/feels like I'm a kid wearing an adults jacket... and I am not a small guy. Everyone else seems to think it's true to size, so maybe NF just likes to overemphasizes the eXTRA in XL.

Nice rain jacket

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Height: 5' 8"
    Weight: 157 lbs
    Size Purchased: S

Lightweight and thin, good for light rain or wind breaker.

If you need something for heavy rain, like rainforest / Costa Rica's rain, this model isn't enough.

Add a layer underneath if you're in an area with high humidity.

Great rain jacket and wind shell

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Height: 5' 10"
    Weight: 171 lbs
    Size Purchased: Large

I ordered this to use when running in rain and for a hiking shell. I was concerned about weight, breathability and the stiffness of the fabric i.e. no plastic-like feel. I find this jacket does well in all categories. It repels rain well, the fabric breaths fine and is aided by the zip vents
and is reasonably pliable for a rain shell. I particularly like the interior lining as it is very soft and feels good when against the skin.
My only suggestion; I wish the hood would fold into the collar and store when not in use. Still, not a big problem and it rates 5 stars.
Per other comments, the jury is still out of the durability of the fabric.
I will update after more use.

Works ok but not very durable

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

It is waterproof and works fine for moderate to heavy rain, even on a bycicle or eventual motorcycle ride under the rain, but the HyVent membrane started to change color and peel after a couple of years of moderate use. Surprisingly, the rest of the jacket does not show much wear in the cuffs, hem or seams. For reference, I alternated between two Venture (red and blue) jackets and one Marmot Precip. Both Ventures had the same problem and the Marmot shows very little wear. The Venture still works ok but it looks bad and the rain eventually gets in where the membrane is gone. I was expecting a very long life for a jacket from TNF.

Works ok but not very durable
Responded on

I had the exact same problem with mine. I just purchases a new raincoat....but got a Marmont Spectra this time. I am hoping it stands up better as I am pretty disappointed in the durability of the North Face.

Responded on

Been using it for one and a half year and still in good condition though :)

Responded on

Exact same thing happened to my jacket. Moderate use and now it is de-laminating everywhere between the hood and body.
Other than that issue I like the jacket but unfortunately I'm not comfortable taking this on vacations anymore in fear of the waterproofing not holding up. So I only use it around the city now.

Responded on

That problem occurs because of excessive soap in the wash. I have had two venture jackets, the 1st one looked like that after just one season. I followed the label's washing instructions on my 2nd venture; it's been through 2 rainy season, and the membrane has maintained solidarity. Just make sure you use very LITTLE SOAP, and RINSE the jacket VERY WELL.

all the best.

Great wet weather jacket

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Height: 6' 2"
    Weight: 230 lbs
    Size Purchased: XL

I've only had my venture for about a month now, but have had ample opportunity to test it out. I work outdoors and this past month has been about half rain. The jacket is relaxed enough to layer under for the cooler morning temps, while the pit zips offer venting for warmer afternoon hours. The Venture offers a ton of adjustability at the waist, wrists, and around the face/head allowing the jacket to meet your needs no matter the temp or amount of rain. I recommend the jacket for anyone looking for excellent rain gear and especially if you can get it on sale.

  • Fit: True to size

Awesome wet weather wear

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size

thin and light, good for storms in the rain forest. A little humid inside but acceptable! Would recommend it to others!

paper thin

The coat was very thin and poor quality. It was very similar to a rain poncho at Walmart. The item was returned.

Responded on

uh...no. It is in no way similar to a "rain poncho" from walmart. This jacket IS thin and light, it's supposed to be. It's also ripstop fabric, and completely waterproof and breathable, unlike a "rain poncho" which is made of pvc or vinyl. It is EXCELLENT quality. What makes you think it's poor quality?? TNF also has a lifetime warranty on it's products (life of the product).

Responded on

Has been through the ringer with me, and still good, not anything like a walmart poncho.......

Most Versatile Jacket

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

This is the best rain jacket the North Face has made in years. In the fall I am able to put a thin fleece underneath it to keep me warm and the fit is still perfect. The jacket cuts the wind very well, but when temperatures rise the under arm vents work great for regulating heat. In terms of water resistance it works great for even the heaviest of conditions and there are two hood adjustments which work well for keeping water out (the wrist straps work much better than bungee wrists too) This jacket is definitely waterproof and drys within a half hour after a downpour.

Also this does work fairly well in the snow. My friend and i went powder skiing on a warmer day on campus and i was able to keep all the snow out which was great. However once colder conditions come along (anything under 15 degrees, at which point you would hopefully wear a winter shell) the zippers do start to freeze because they are smaller.

Great Versatile Rain Shell

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

Spent quite a while trying to decide on a rain shell and I'm happy with this North Face Venture. It does everything it should. Repels water excellently, rolls up nice and snug, light weight, and manages heat great. I am 5'10 170 lbs and the medium is roomy enough to go over thicker flannels or fleece, but snug enough so your not dragging a bunch of excess fabric around.
Also, it works great for when its dropping real wet, windy snow but not cold enough to put on a bigger jacket while walking to class, etc. Just put a thicker under layer or two and your good to go.
Again, I love how it manages heat.

Size

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs large

I'm 1,70 cm and 71 Kilos, FIT. My Chest is 108cm and the SMALL is just perfect. I can use it alone or with 2 layers under it. A R@ Patagonia Fleece and a base layer. Perfect.

protected & lookin' good

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

Venture jacket is just what an outerwear professional would wear himself. Can't find outerwear of this quality at any price w/lifetime warranty. Not only is the fit perfect, so is the fit of the hood, all zippers high quality YKK), deep inside pockets, zippered diagonal outside deep pockets, zippered armpit vents & drawcords on hood, waistband, velcro cuff straps to keep the elements completely out. If one can only have one outerwear pick this one. If need to put heavy garment under jacket order next size up. Well worth every dollar spent on this product. only suggestion, when washing garment (that is waterproof, as this is)-use only mild powdered laundry detergent; liquid detergents tend to destroy waterproofing.

Responded on

just keep in mind that waterproofing degrades over time no matter what, and one must use a treatment such as Nik Wax or Grangers waterproofer spray occasionally. Also best to wash it in something made for technical outerwear such as by Nik Wax or Grangers!

Waterproof-Snowproof-Windproof!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

This jacket was a great investment. I bought the green jacket because it was 50% off and I love the color! I get all kinds of compliments. I've used this while skiing with a lightweight fleece on under and a good base layer and I was so warm I had to open up the vents under the pits to cool off. I've also used it in torrential rain storms and came out dry as a bone. In West-Texas we have some really high winds upwards of 70-75 mph at times and this little jacket keeps it all out! I love the design of the hood it fits perfectly even with a beanie on. The jacket will roll up into the pocket storage and makes it great for keeping in a backpack for those unexpected down pours. Great Job TNF!

I want to send this jacket back to get a bigger size. How do i do that?
