The North Face Men's relaxed-fit VaporWick Ruckus Tee keeps you dry and protects you from the sun's hot rays as you head up the trail. Whether you're wet from a water-balloon fight or a sweaty workout, the short-sleeve Ruckus T-Shirt dries quickly and keeps you comfortable. For hot desert hikes or sunny spring mornings, The North Face's VaporWick fabric includes a UPF 30+ sun protection element. This blocks sun rays and keeps you from feeling drained at the end of the day.
Bottom Line: Pull on The North Face VaporWick Ruckus T-Shirt and stay dry as you throw the ol' pigskin around.
I have a few of these shirts and you get the feel of cotton and the wicking of a synthetic. UPF 30 rating is kind of a bonus. These shirts are super soft and feel good on your skin but I have had some premature wear from my backpack straps.
Keeps you cool on hot summer ski tours or on ski mountaineering objectives. Wicks away moisture, I have used it for trail running, rock climbing, mountaineering any activity you can think of. Good under shirt in the winter!

I wore these for years as an all-purpose shirt, for hiking, trekking, gym workouts, and around town. One of the softest and most cotton-like feeling of the polypro shirts out there. I prefer a more athletic cut, such as the Patagonia Cap 2 shirts, which keeps the shirt closer to my body, but the feel of the fabric is sooo soft on these. I don't find them to wick moisture as well as some others, though, they seemed to just get wet and heavy after a while, but still a great shirt.
I had never purchased a dedicated running/hiking shirt before this one. I have always been weary of the silky looking shirts, felt that they wouldn't look right or hold up well. However, I have been pleasantly surprised by this shirt. It almost looks like cotton and is super comfortable. Wicks away moisture nicely, and looks good doing so. I plan to purchase a couple more in different colors in the very near future.
For a lightweight t-shirt that wicks, this is 'ok'. I think it feels a bit heavy, not as cool as patagonia capaliene, which seems a bit lighter. Really durable though.
I have about nine of these shirts. I'm 5'10", 170lbs and medium fit my LONG torso perfectly. I love the way they keep me dry (I'm always the first person to sweat and the last person to dry) when doing uber aerobic sports. I like the fact that they will not get damaged like pantie holes when snagged of a branch like other synthetic, fast drying shirts. I stay away from the really thin VaporWick tees though, they tear/damage easy.
I'm very happy with this purchase. The VaporWick material itself is very soft and comfortable. I would wear this shirt everyday if I could. I wanted to buy two more shirts in different colors but they're out of stock now. I wear this shirt when I'm running and also just daily use. It keeps you cool and looks great. I wasn't looking forward to paying 25$ per shirt, but I don't regard it at all now.
Great cut, more comfortable than other brands used and holds up extremely well when laundered (stays looking good a LONG time). Fabric weight is perfect for layering.... thin and lightweight. Really does what designed to do.... keeps you cool when active and warm when you're kicking back. Worth the bucks!
Great Shirt, Really can't say anything bad about it. I use it while hiking, running, working out, etc. It dries quickly and is very soft. Be sure to order a size down from your normal shirt size. I ordered a large at first, which was alright, but this shirt is meant to stay close to the skin, so I ordered a size down. Thanks backcountry!
Well I got this shirt for when going outdoors and working up a sweat, since its winter, I didn't really get to use it to its full potential(the wicking), however I can say that it feels softy and it's really comfortable and its really thin, well thinner than cotton shirts. The thing to watch out is how you treat the shirt, when washing, please follow the instructions, my mom washes it with other clothes(hot water wash followed by a dryer on high settings) and the next day, the label came right off, I don't blame the shirt as it's designed a certain way and needs special care but I really didn't expect the tag to come right off. For lazy people, great shirt, comfy, looks good, performs good, cheap(for a performance shirt) but needs special care. AND please please don't scrub it with a brush for those who still do, this shirt will not survive.
I will agree that TNFace stuff is getting more and more fashionable, but less functional. In the last 5 yrs this is the only TNF product I've purchased. I own those other t-shirts you list as better but they are not in my mind. Yes, those other shirts are lighter, but are FRAGILE compared to Ruckus. I can walk through thorn bushes with the Ruckus. If I did the same with those light weight t-shirts, I come out with tears and stretched threads.
I bought one of these at one of the local outdoor stores, and he had two in stock. After wearing the first one, I went back and bought the remaining one. I also went to the backcountry.com website and bought the five remaining colors that I liked (not much on the Yam Orange). They feel great, look great, and keep you cool. There are no laundry instructions on the shirts, but after taking them out of the washer (cold water wash), I hang them on hangers that are made for t-shirts (long with shoulder support), and within an hour they air dry, which means no dryer wear and tear. The colors don't fade, and they don't shrink. Buy them to fit! Today is the first day that I haven't had one on since buying them, as it is cool and raining. I am 6'1", and weigh 211 lbs, and the XL fits fine! Also, they feel good when used as a regular t-shirt under other garments. On another note, backcountry.com has the BEST return and exchange procedures that I have found on any web based business (when I ordered the shirts, I also ordered a cap that was too small and had to return it)! This is a lot said about something as simple as a t-shirt, but the comfort and quality of this product deserves it.
This t-shirt works really well on three levels: comfort, looks and performance. I would definitely buy one again. I have sweated intensely in it and it has dried quickly and unlike some wicking shirts, it continues to smell fresh.
Great shirt. I've had mine for over a year now and it still functions like the day I bought it. Great for any aerobic activity, and comfortable enough to wear anywhere. This is my anytime, anywhere shirt.
I am 6' 190 lbs and wear the medium pretty comfortabley.
This t shirts make great undershirts for hot weather and wick sweat like crazy! Always wear one by itself or under whatever im wearing in the backcountry. Love it.
I've worn this shirt on some light hikes and during intense workouts in the gym. What I like most about it are the soft cotton-like feel, the shape, and the lack of post activity stink. The first time I wore it was for a 3hr training session on the treadmill wearing a 40lb pack. Took it off after the work out and laid it over my pack soaked with sweat out in the garage; next day I went out to throw it into the wash and noticed it didn't stink, so i put it on and wore it for another workout. It also holds it shape better than some of the other more silky type performance tees. Overall great shirt, and it can double as casual attire with shorts or jeans without looking silly.
This shirt fits well and stretches with your body so as not to restrict movement when you're working out or playing a sport. Dries faster than a regular cotton tee.
Bought some Columbia, North Face, and Mountain Hardware shirts, and these and the Columbias were very similar and both very good. Comfortable, nice feel, dries quickly, seems durable. It's everything you'd want it to be. Would definitely buy more of these.
I just wore this for workout today in 100+ temps. I little heavy for the weather. Better in sub-100s probably. A great weight and durability for hiking. Recommend!
I spent 4 months in south asia with a backpack and carried two of these vaporwick shirts with me. Though they may dry faster than cotton they certainly start smelling fast too (showers are few-and-far-between while backpacking). I found my cotton shirts to be just as comfortable, approximately the same weight, and a hell of a lot cheaper.
The reviewers have this nailed - this is the perfect workout T shirt. It is comfortable, wears well and wicks with ease. It even performs under east coast summer humid conditions - it stays comfortable where other brands can get downright slimy. A great choice for a workout shirt.
TNF Vapor Wick shirt fits well and keeps you cool. It wicks away the sweat, and dries very quickly. It's thin and soft, but you can't see through it. You can wear it on the trails or at the movies. Recommended.
The North Face VaporWick Ruckus T-Shirt is an average mid-weight, synthetic T. There are several other synth Ts I would recommend before this one, but this shirt is cheap. For the price, it is good. It did start to pile into small fabric balls the first time I washed it,(in cold water, and without drying in the dryer)but you could buy a few of these not be be too concerned about beating them up.
I absolutely love these shirts. I have worn them on multiple hikes and they keep me dry and super comfortable. I have also worn them around town and just for normal things and they are great. I would recommend this shirt to anyone.
Originally found them at Dicks's Sporting Goods. They no longer stock them. I hope NF continues this line as I purchased 2 white and 2 blue more than 2 years ago and they are holding up like almost new. I do line dry them as they dry quick and dryers will destry most any garmet quicky. They are thin comfortable and light. You dont feel like you have a shirt on. Anyway, I just purchased 4 more because I dont know how much longer they will be around as generally all manufacturers eventually screw up and change a good thing. Best workout undershirt ever. I dont know how anyone can say this shirt promotes sweating because I find it to be just the opposite. Its greatest feature is the very breathable fabric.
What I really like about these shirts is that they are soft like cotton, but quick drying like polyester. It's a good blend as I see it. I've worn other brands which are slippery/shiny or just a bit rough, but not as soft as the North Face Ruckus. I like a wicking outdoor T shirt for hiking, backpacking, and canoeing because they dry rapidly unlike cotton, and therefore keep you warmer on those cooler days. One last point... this shirt doesn't have the stink factor either, like so many synthetics do. You can get away with wearing it all day and not send your camp buddies packing! The fit is true to size, and as others have stated, a looser fit [not tight to the torso]. Since I like the looser style, this shirt wins high marks with me! A great T for all outdoor activities!
The fit is ok and true to size, it's comfortable and good for just average t-shirt use, and for the price it is great. But I won't use this for training again. Holy crap this shirt gets moist and does not wick well compared to other products. It gets heavy and suffocating, so it is not a technical work out shirt! But for people who either don't sweat or don't really push it, it is probably alright. Buy it as"just another t-shirt" but don't buy it if you're in need of a good tech shirt. I gave it 2 stars because i feel the desciption of the shirt doesn't match.
I bought this shirt to wear underneath my uniform because I've been looking for a shirt that's comfortable, wicks sweat, won't stink, and will keep it's color. So far it's accomplished 3 out of 4, I can't speak on the color issue because I've only had this shirt for a couple months. Awesome shirt though. I am 5'11 and weigh about 177, the medium fits me perfectly. Get one, I'm getting more soon.
I am a baseball coach for 10 year olds and I needed a green shirt because we are the Oaklandon A's. That being said, I was looking to find something that would keep the sweat off of me while standing on third base coaching. This shirt has been a blessing. For now on before the start of baseball season I am going to order a new shirt to match my teams colors. I love this shirt.
Nice shirt, it's very good as a base layer or if you run at the gym. It features the vaporwhick fabric which dries very fast. This fabric does not feel slippery like Nike's dry-fit, it has a more natural feel.
I bought two of these as workout shirts. Sizes do run a bit big relative to other brands I have. They are awesome for wicking sweat and they are so soft I end up wearing them all the time. After washing they pile but it doesn't really show or affect the look of the shirt. I've gone through brush and snagged the shirts but they don't tear or get runs like other synthetics I have.
The Ruckus shirt is a very wise buy. Its fit and finish are good-looking and extremely comfortable. It absorbs moisture very quickly, dries just as quickly, and resists perspiration odor build up. Of course, continuous wearing, i.e. a week-long wilderness adventure may call for a quick rinse and dry following which, you are good to go. Buy it, you will like it.
This is a great shirt. Alone or as first layer, it is comfortable and fits very well. It wicks quickly, dries quickly, and does not quickly absorb perspiration odor. If in the wilderness, rinse it. It dries without odor when worn almost immediately. For laid back or full bore activity, it is comfortable and stylish (if that matters to you). This shirt has it all.
I got my husband two of these for working out, and he wears them all the time! It seems like I am always washing them because they are worn so much. He wears them not only to the gym but also to school because they are so soft.
This shirt is very soft and true to size. I'm 6', 185 and a large fits pretty well with a little extra room. Very soft. Decent at wicking, not as good as mtn hardwear wicked tee.
These shirts hardly get wet in light rain, and if they do get soaked they dry super fast. When I wash them I don't even really have to put them in the dryer. They're also really soft. After I purchased my first one I got two more because I liked them so much. I have noticed when you wear a pack around the shoulders the shirt will get "bumpy", but it's not really that bad at all. I also like the fact that the neck wasn't too loose liked I've noticed with other North Face cotton shirts. If you are concerned about size, they fit true. If you normally wear a MED, get a MED. Overall, well worth the expense! Five stars for you Ruckus Tee!
my favorite t-shirts. i own four, green, brown, deep water blue, and red. i'm 6 2 180 and the large fits great. i wear them working out and the work great.
The best synthetic T shirt you will ever want. The thing I like is the outer texture which , unlike others dosnt let your hipbelt continually slide downdown.
This shirt is the least expensive wicking t-shirt I have seen and for me it is a good one. It is loosely cut like most cotton tees. It feels similar to but better that cotton. It wicks great if sweating. If you have ever hiked in a cotton shirt while wearing a backpack took the pack off and when putting it back on experienced that cold uncomfortable feeling from the wet shirt being press against your skin you will never experience that again with this shirt. I have gotten caught in the rain with this shirt on and even though the shirt was completely soaked I felt dry and comfortably warm, similarly to a wool garment without the itch. I have had mud ground into the shirt and it washed out after two tries. The only negative about the shirt is after wearing a backpack while hiking the fabric of the shirt that the pack was rubbing against has started to pill (get bumpy).
Bought three of these for my son who went on a sailing trip in the Caribbean. As a teen, he wasn't keen on "North Face" clothing (not his style!), but every time I see him, he's wearing one, so that tells you something :)
I usually wear a $5.95 cotton T-shirt so this was a whole new world for me. I like it. It doesn't get clammy wet with sweat, looks good, and has that cool little TNF logo. What more could you ask of a T-shirt?
I have had a variety of North Face products in the last 10 years. I've had jackets, shoes, base layers, and now this tee. I really want to like North Face products, I really really do. They are readily available at many stores, and the cost is usually relatively inexpensive compared to other companies. So I continue to give them chances at proving themselves. However, this company only keeps proving to be a jack of all trades but a master of nothing. It seems they have become more interested in making stylish looking products rather than producing items that are functional for actual outdoor use. This tee is no different. Although it may cost half as much as comparable shirts made by Mountain Hardwear or Patagonia, it is half as light, half as comfortable, and half as functional. It's too heavy and too long to be a good running shirt. If you are a weekend warrior looking to buy a product that you can wear just hang'n out as a regular tee shirt, this may be the one for you. But if you are going to seriously run or workout on a regular basis, I would not recommend this tee. The deeper I dive into running and exercising, the more I'm finding out that 99% of the time you get what you pay for with gear. My pappy used to say, "Buy cheap, buy twice..." I couldn't say it better than that. Try the Patagonia Airius T-Shirt ($46) or Mountain Hardwear's Double Wicked Tee ($32). These prices are not out of this world once you see how they perform. I have both of these products and they both out perform the North Face Ruckus.
I bought the shirt a couple weeks ago, and have used it to Hike, Bike, Camp and run. I would say that I used it intensively. After the first camping trip it developped beads of fabric in the front, that are pretty much unoticable accept to me. They have not gotten worse though. Other than that it's great and I really beat the heck out of it.
My girlfriend bought me one of these a few months ago. I used it for running, hiking, biking, and even casual wear. It's an incredibly soft shirt, like an old cotton shirt, but it wicks away sweat to keep you dry.
I've since purchased 3 more shirts b/c I love 'em so much. I really like the fact that it doesn't look or feel like a typical performance/active wear dry shirt. It looks and feels like a normal, cotton t-shirt.
Perfect Tee for any activity. I use it as a base layer while skiing, go climbing in it, hiking or just wear it around the house because it is so comfortable. Wicks away moisture nicely.
It has a nice cotton like feel. I like that it's lightweight and breaths well. The fit is just right - loose and not too short. Definitely recommend it.
The AC is broken in my house right now, so whenever I'm at home I make sure to throw on my North Face VaporWick Ruckus T-Shirt. Sure enough, I don't get nearly as hot and I don't feel all sticky. This shirt breathes and wicks moisture extremely well. It also dries super quickly whenever wet. When you go to take your shirt out of the washer, it's damn near dry already. Try it out yourself if you don't believe me!
I bought the North Face VaporWick Ruckus t-shirt for my husband to go running in and he loves it. It keeps him dry and cool while he is running. He has even asked for the same shirt in more colors.
I purchased this shirt for my dad for Fathers Day and he absolutely loved it! He loves it so much that he bought 5 more. He is amazed at how it breathes and keep him cool while running in our awesome Los Angeles heat waves.
I have a few of these shirts and you get the feel of cotton and the wicking of a synthetic. UPF 30 rating is kind of a bonus. These shirts are super more...
Keeps you cool on hot summer ski tours or on ski mountaineering objectives. Wicks away moisture, I have used it for trail running, rock climbing, mountaineering more...
