my main hiking shoes

By:
October 20, 2010

Wore these as my main hiking shoes for a couple years, paired with light blue Superfeet insoles. They were comfortable, light, durable, and I really liked the lacing configuration. It allowed me to adjust them comfortably without any pressure on my instep, and to get a good fit. I had a pair of the Gore-Tex models as well, and they held up well on some very wet hikes.

Ultra 104 Hypes; Then Delivers

By:
November 7, 2008

I have been trail-running for 25-years from Arizona Sonoran Deserts to High Alpine Forests. I have worn ASICS, Adidas, Nike, Brooks, New Balance, and Montrail trail shoes; never have I had a shoe that fits so well, provides so much protection, traction, and comfort. I would wear these for everyday activities except I might not look so forward to sliding these on for my trailruns. Best pure trail shoe ever.

Great shoe!

By:

Very light weight, yet rugged with good support. Handles rocky, steep trails quite well. Drains and dries quickly after crossing creeks. The previous U104's rubbed the edge of my big toes and caused blisters, these do not have that issue. Highly recommended.

I did a gate test and was surpised to find out that my arches

I did a gate test and was surpised to find out that my arches were giving in causing pronation. They said I needed a stable shoe with arch support. They put me in a Saucony Omni 7 for my street needs. Now it is time for more trail shoes and I am having a hard time finding something with that much stability. Will these do the trick or can anyone suggest anything else?

I have narrow feet with high arches that tend to crash downward as well, I recommend trying the Superfeet Trim-To-Fit Green Insole works great in all my running shoes it’s lightweight and has the extra support for my arches.

Comfortable show with good support. Lightweight and true to size. Felt a little tight for the first day, but streched and fit great after that. The laces are a little short and hard to tie.

There is an Gore-Tex XCR version and a non-XCR version of the 104. This is the non-XCR version.

I purchased these great shoes while working in Kabul...as an everyday shoe, they performed wonderously during weight and cardio workouts, and also while conducting range operations in the most rugged of environments...i have purchased a second pair at the ready for when these are worn out.

love this shoe

By:

very comfortable...a very balanced shoe...i sometimes have the problem of getting too narrow of a shoe and feel like i am doing a balancing act when walking with the shoe, constantly turning my ankle, etc. this shoe makes you want to do squats or something! i also like the laces and how far they go back and forth...its unique.

Great for a 12-hour shift

By:
August 10, 2008

Very comfortable! I'm an ER physician and not a hiker much anymore, but still buy TNF products to remind me of the days in college when I could go hiking before children, career... I have high arches and pretty narrow feet; I can wear them comfortably during a 12-hour shift on my feet, an honor priorly only held by my Birkenstocks. I also can do my treadmill runs at the Y and my feet feel great!

Excellent shoe.

I have had more than one incarnation of the Ultra series and keep coming back. It fits well on my slightly wide foot and is very comfortable. It also provides good traction for the gravel and scree of the rocky mountains. In this dry area I prefer a shoe that is not goretex. Very good and versatile shoe.
