A 3-in-1 is just a 1-in-1 if the liner jacket is nothing more than a nondescript, non-functional piece of polyester. The North Face makes sure you get your money's worth with the Men's Tritronix II Triclimate Jacket. Inside the seam-sealed waterproof breathable HyVent shell you'll find a quilted liner jacket that you can actually wear on its own. The North Face stuffed the Triclimate liner with 100g of synthetic insulation for warmth and threw on a couple hand pockets and a security pocket for street-ready versatility. The military-inspired shell features a powder skirt, a detachable hood, and plenty of pockets for your MP3 player, goggles, and on-mountain essentials.
Bottom Line: A true 3-in-1 from the masters of the Triclimate.
The info listed under "Tech Specs" states that this jacket is zip-in compatible, but that it comes with a snap-in liner. How does the zip-in compatibility work? I'm assuming a person would need to order some additional, alternative liner that could be zipped-in. Is that the case? If so, what additional product would I have to order to get a zip-in liner?
Not sure about this but I can tell you that the coat looks & performs better w/ the lining NOT zipped in; the color on color scheme doesn't work if it's zipped in & a zipped in liner makes it easier for cold to enter through the zipper area. Having the coat snapped in @ the sleeves & neck area keeps the whole thing together & gives you a better range of movement than a zipped in liner.
I ordered this in mid-December when it was 20% off and I was instantly pleased with my purchase. I got the tank green coat in XL (I'm 6 feet tall, 225 pounds) and it fit perfectly. I don't really camp, ski, or snowboard, but I still needed a warm coat to get through the winter here in MN (it was -21 yesterday), as even waiting for a bus for 15 minutes outside can be an "extreme" experience. The fit is perfect, the features (pockets, 3-in-1 system, removable hood, etc) are all very functional, and it looks great too. This was my second purchase from backcountry.com and I hope to deal with them again in the future.

LOVE this coat but this site & every other site incorrectly has the coat listed as available in black on brown, which doesn't exist. I even tried to order it directly from North Face, who ALSO told me that it was available per the pic but alas, when I received it, it was black on black. Backcountry.com was very helpful w/ the return however, so I put the onus more on North Face than Backcountry.com.
Hi, looking for a triclimate jacket in XXL in BLACK, have been to diff. stores and see black but not XXL, your selection in Black is very limited, is that because there are none in stock or do the specific styles not come in black? Are some of the triclimate jackets shorter in length than others, they look like it from the photos. Also, return polilcy?
I purchased a medium North Face Tritronix II Triclimate Jacket about a month ago from Backcountry. I am about 5'10" and 170 lbs. and the jacket fits perfectly. A large would have been too big. This Jacket is awesome. I have so far worn it in temperatures reaching below zero with the windchill with nothing but a t-shirt on for the base layer. I was completely warm and felt absolutely no wind through the jacket. I can't wait to see how it does in even colder temps.
The snap-in liner is pretty sweet by itself and relatively warm. It looks good also. The outer shell seems to be completely waterproof. I have worn it in several cold Fall downpours and not a drop of rain soaked through the shell. Water just rolls off of this thing.
There is a ton of storage options on this jacket and it has a really neat system for an MP3 player. It has a built in goggle or glasses wipe in the sleeve that you can pull out as well.
I am very happy with this jacket so far. Another great product from the North Face and more excellent service from Backcountry! Thanks!
I ordered the Tritronix II during the 20% off sale a couple weeks back. I was psyched to find it at that price. I ordered a size Large in black. Based on the pictures on the Backcountry web page (and others I had seen) I was expecting the liner to be brown. It's not (it's black like the outer shell). At first I was pissed about this because one of the things that attracted me to this jacket was the contrast between the black shell and brown liner. I don't understand why the pics on the web page don't match what you get when you order. But, after trying it on I still like the coat even with the black liner. I also didn't expect the liner to only attach to the shell in 3 places (both cuffs and the back of the neck). I was hoping for more of a zip-in liner like you get with most 3-in-1 jackets. I haven't had it long enough to know how much of a pain this is going to be. So, overall I'm still glad I bought this jacket, especially at the price I paid. But I think Backcountry should do a better job of providing accurate information about this product.
If you are looking to have a zip in liner to make it one coat this is not the one for you. The sleeves snap in at the cuf and the back snaps in at the top. However, you have to zip up two jackets when you have the liner in for this coat. Not the true three in one that I was looking for.
What are the 3 snaped things on the bottom of the shell in back. I can't find anything to snap them on. They are snap things like aat the cuff thta keeps the sleeves in line.
I think what you're referring to is this jacket is snap-in compatible & is equipped with snap-in capabilities to add another layer for even more warmth. I actually think the snaps you're refering to are to do with the snap in compatability with some of the pants.
