The North Face Women’s Transit Jacket ensures you stay warm while you wait for the light-rail. The North Face insulated this close-cut jacket with 600-fill down and made it water-repellent for protection in frigid temps and light snowfall. A removable hood stops your body heat from pouring out of your head, and a media pocket holds your cell phone or MP3 close at hand.
Bottom Line: Don’t just stand there with your teeth chattering—pull on the Transit Jacket.
I Absolutely Love my TNF Transit Down Jacket. My only regret is that I did not purchase it sooner. I looked and looked for a coat that I liked, I searched all over Chicago when I was there in February and did not find anything I liked or that fit. This coat is wonderful, the fit is perfect, the length is great with the cold South Dakota wind. I have had many, many compliments on this coat. The best part is that I think I am the only person in town with it, so, it really stands out. Am thinking of getting another in a different color I like it that much. Highly Recommend!
Hi, Personally i've seen the Vintage White being worn downtown New York. Looks great. Backcountry only has Tan left, so if you would like to take a look at the white (and other colours), pls see this link. Price is not as cheap though ($189).
I love this jacket! I just received it yesterday and could not be more happy. I have a long torso so the length of this jacket is perfect for me! Comes with a hood that can be removed and also the sleeves get tighter around your wrist which is a feature that I really like!

i bought this same coat last year in the cherry stain brown color and wanted to buy the same for a friend. did north face discontinue this color, or is the phantom red just a different name to make the product sound updated?
The transit down jacket is just great. It fits really good without squishing your body or your clothes. It also covers your rear and upper thighs so it keeps you warm. It is light enough to take on trips. I am really happy with this jacket.
Does anyone know if the sleeves are short or seem to be ok. I have long arms and long sleeves are difficult to find for me. I weigh 135 and am 5'10" and moved to the midwest from the southwest and need a jacket that isn't bulky. I am guessing a L, but am afraid it might be too short.
Depending on your frame size, I would go with either a small or medium. I think the large would be too big for you. I am 5'9 and 130 lbs. (small frame) and ordered a size small (perfect fit). My arms are also very long. If you have more of a medium size frame at 5'10", 135 lbs., a medium size might be better?.
I'm 5'9, 130 lbs. with a small frame and a size small fit perfectly. I love the phantom red color; very nice and unique. Very warm coat, nice long sleeve and body length too; I like a little extra length and this jacket is perfect for that. It's a jacket I'm proud to own and enjoy wearing so much!
The fabric is windproof, but it appears to be stitched through rather than baffled so there might be cold spots at the seams where the insulation is thinner. Mountain Hardwear makes a coat called the Downtown (just put "MHW1259" in the search box) that's very similar and a bit warmer, plus the hood is deeper and it's got a removable faux fur trim to keep the wind off your face. It's only about $20 more, has a higher fill count, more pockets, and is a little longer too, so unless you're fiercely loyal to TNF as a brand, I'd suggest looking pretty hard at that. Picture of it on the left.
I wanted a very light weight and warm winter jacket that also coverd my tush. I am happy to say that the Transit style jacket did the job. The color of the jacket is red and it goes with everything. It really is more maroon in color then red. The only thing that I didn't expect was the static cling generated from the jacket. I would highly recommend this stylish and shapely jacket. Can't find bittersweet brown in XS...is phantom red similar in color or is it more red than brown. Do you know where I might find a bittersweet brown in XS?
I bought this for my girlfriend who goes to school in colorado. she absolutely loves it, and wears it everyday. only problem is that the feathers have begun poking through and shes only had it for two months
Couldn't agree more John - i have a Triple C and a Metropolis and love wearing them and think they look great - I also have a couple of other long coats (GAP and Landsend) - i just don't understand why there are not more mens long down coats - as for the transit jacket here - probably be ok on a man - personally i prefer the longer versions - in fact i have also lately got a white one which takes a bit more courage to wear but i still think i looks great
I have two women's long down jackets, one by North Face, another by Calvin Klein in nearly the same style here. I'm 6'2" in good shape and the women's XL fit me perfectly, however the sleeves are too short so I had a tailor add on cuffs for about $10.
I have no idea why they don't make a jacket like this for men, and I don't see anything overly feminine about this other than the fact that they just don't make them for men.
If I see something that I like and I think I can make it work, I could care less if someone asks me if it's a woman's coat, they are perfect for the cold, I think they look nice on me and that's all that really matters. But you'd be surprised how many people (both men and women) have asked me where I got it.
So yes, I think it would look good on a man and in fact I know that is does.
I bought this jacket for my 19 year old daughter to wear walking around the cold Michigan campus. She has tried it out for that and REALLY likes it. She's short, so it covers her to her thigh, without being too long. She's a size 6 generally and first ordered a medium, reading that they run small. I'm a 10-12 and it fit me, so I quickly ordered a small so she'd have the right size for Christmas. The small was perfect. I had asked advice from Backcountry on this and they didn't really have good advice on this. I'd just say this jacket runs true to size.
I love my new Transit NF coat! The Phantom Red color is perfect and looks more like a burgundy color that is subtle. I am 5'9" and 128 lbs. and a small fit me (I have a small frame). The arms are long enough (although 1/2 an inch more would not hurt) but adequate. I have a long torso and the coat hits me mid-rear. Although there is plenty of down throughout the jacket, it feels very light on which is great. The only downsides about this jacket is that the Phantom Red color can discolor(if you use moisturizer or wear make-up) around the colar and wrists easily. Also, when it's windy, I felt some air through the sleeves. I would say temps that are 30 to high 50's are perfect for this jacket -- Anything below 30 degrees might require some layering underneath, but that's my preference.
How warm is this jacket compared to the 700 fill down of NP Nuptse? I tried the Nuptse on and it was way too bulky for my taste, but the transit was perfect. BUT if the transit is a lot less warm, I want to know before I purchase!
Hi Kayra - The Transit is not going to be as warm as The Nuptse jacket, but that is not to say that the Transit is not warm- it is still going to keep most folks warm in all but the coldest conditions. I got a Transit for my mom that lives in Park City Utah - and she stays really warm in a pretty cold winter climate- Hope this helps
The length on this coat is perfect, just below the butt. The sleeve length is also great for me, as I have longish arms. I have the longer version of this coat for extreme cold, but the Transit is the one I grab the most when I get into the car during the winter.
I am a college student in new england, the winters are long cold and brutal. I love this jacket especially when I am walking around my college campus, it keeps me toasty warm! The length is great and at 5"2 this coat hangs just below my butt. I bought a size small, I probably could have used an xs but i like to layer and the small is not too bulky. I love the fit, feel and Ink blue color of this jacket! You cant go wrong!
I'm thinking of buying the The North Face Transit Down Jacket- Women's, but am a little hesitant as I read here that the fit is not flattering. Does it look too puffy and would this color attract dirt and stains? I already have a Black Redpoint jacket which is really warm but does not have too attractive a fit! Can anyone help me make a decision?
I have a medium and am 5'6" and 135lbs. I think this is as flattering as it can be for a down jacket meaning that it is not very puffy at all and is pretty thin and also does have an hourglass shape or a slight tapering at the waist. I would not go with white but any of the other colors would be good and I think they wash very well with spray n wash and dry with some tennis balls on low. My last years north face aconcaqua has the same fabric in pink and came out like new and the washing even seemed to take away slight wearing or fuzz in a couple of spots in the material.
I wouldn't say that this jacket has the most flattering lines in the TNF line. Here are a few other options that you might want to look at: Thunder Jacket, Tempest Down, Amtoinette, Aviatrix, Destiny Down. I think all of these have very nice cuts if you want something down that is more flattering.
Bought this jacket for my daughter. Initially ordered size Large because she has long arms (59). Exchanged the Large for a Medium. The medium fits perfect in the arms and body.
I'm really pleased with this jacket. It kept me nice and warm walking across campus with temps in the low 30's. I got it in Cherry Stain Brown, size small (I'm 5'7'' and 118 lbs), and it fits very well, leaving some room for layering if I choose. I was afraid the arms would be too short, but they're not. The color is beautiful. Also, I was afraid removing the hood would leave the snaps visible, but the collar has a convenient little flap that covers the snaps.
Try looking at the measurement chart above under "select options" for small & Xsmall to see which would fit best.I am 5'4" and 115 lbs. with a petite upper body, and just got an XS and it fits perfectly but it's definitely not big nor roomy - but I also prefer fitted jackets, which the XS is for me. I am fine with 2 layers under (base layer + sweater) and even a vest.
Tried on a Large North Face Jacket (different type) and it just fit. So I ordered an XL to allow for a sweater underneath. It is a little larger than I expected. The sleeves are too long but overall I like the jacket. It is not very flattering to the figure but hopefully it will keep me warm.
How can I clean the black stains that are unavoidable to get on the botton of the sleeves???I never tried to clean it with anything because I'm affraid to use the wrong product and loose the jacket.
Hey Diana,The best thing I've found to do is spray a bunch of "spray-n-wash" on the dirty areas, reapply it every 30 minutes for a couple of hours and then wash it as you normally would. If the stains are really bad do the same thing but give them a heavy spray and let it soak overnight. That has gotten about everything out of our jackets and it won't damage the material.Hope that helps.
I love this transit coat, it is warm and not to bulky does need some layering but that is the way to go so you can take the coat off and still be warm inside. I love the phantom red it goes with everything. The only thing i would have liked would be if the hood had a pocket to be folded into or was removable.I love the length of this coat.
I am 5'6" with an average or longer torso 135lbs. Size medium runs a little bigger than my last years medium north face aconcaqua. Wanted something a little longer to cover my butt and this comes about 2" past bottom of my butt or 32.5" lenght from top of back collar. could easily wear with a couple layers underneath but small might have been to snug. Sure it will be warmer than my shorter one for the cold Chicago winter. It is slightly tapered inward at the waist and is not too puffy. Love the color and think it will wash well like my aconcaqua.
What is the lenghth of this jacket? I ordered the Greenland Jacket and it's too short. I am 5.0 feet tall and it came below my behind. Does this jacket fall at the thigh?
This jacket is 3" longer than the Greenland. The Transit has a center back length of 30", while the Greenland only has a center back length of 27". I will let you decide it that will fall at your thigh or not.
This coat is: flattering (and I'm not thin) Warm (I run my dogs wearing it in the Indiana winter) the only coat I will wear when I want comfort in winter
LOVE IT!!! I live in Illinois and recently traveled to ND and this coat kept me warm the whole time!!! It is the best coat I have every had.
There are only two cons: The size maybe runs a little large- I ordered a small and could have used an XS, but I kept the small so that I could put lots of layers/sweater underneath if needed. Also, feathers occasionally pop out;
I already have the Transit Jacket in blue, and I absolutely love the warmth, comfort and style. Hard to take it off. I bought a second one for my daughter in Tanzania Tan color, and we're returning it because the color is a little too gold and shiney for us. We're going to try the Phantom Red one instead. The gold color might be right for some, just not us.
Just got the coat, and love it already. there isn't anything so far that is a negative. perfefct length, good hood, sleeves are a tad bit long, but I'm short and used it. only 5'4" but had to order the large due to larger upper half. will have plenty of room for bulky sweaters. love the phantom red color. can't wait for the cold weather again to give it a test. I don't imagine it will be anything negative.
I bought this jacket just before christmas for a trip to Iowa--I'm from Los Angeles so I was a little worried about the weather. We were there during the big storm that passed through and this coat is worth every cent! I was so warm, all I wore underneath it was a cuddle dud top and a t-shirt. YES it is that warm. Also it is supprisingly unbulky by down coat standards, I didn't look like I was wearing a sleeping bag. Now I'm in Michigan and again this coat is making my trip so much more enjoyable. I liked it so much my sister in North Carolina bought one from backcountry.com and my mom bought one in Boston. THANK YOU!! Note, I am petite (5'1 and about 120 lbs) I needed an extra small, my mom is 5'2 and about 130 she got a small) If you have small shoulders go for the XS. The ink blue is a beautiful color too.
Does this jacket fit true to size? My daughter wears a 6 usually, but some North Face fits small, so should I order the medium so she can put a sweater under it?
This jacket does fit pretty true to size. If she's on the small end of a 6 I'd go with a small but if she's on the verge of a 6/7 then shoot for a medium. If she's going to be layering I'd definitely go with a medium. The hood is a removable hood.Hope that helps.
I was looking for a jacket that covered the top of my pants, and I found it. I love this jacket. It is very warm and very lightweight at the same time. Perfect fit!
no, its kinda more like an upper quad length. If you want knee length the metropolis is at the knee... There is another couple jackets by ISIS and Patagonia that are longer also.
I have read reviews about the material tighter around the wrist so wind doesn't blow in. What kind of material is around the wrist of the sleeve. Is it a tight poyester or is it more soft like cotten.
I never thought I could be so passionate about a jacket, but I love this one. It is magically warm without being bulky or heavy. I'm 5'5" and about 125 pounds and it fits perfectly. I got the long version of this coat, in black, earlier in the year as a gift and I don't how I lived without one before. I live outside of Philly and it was a nasty winter.
I bought this jacket just before Christmas and I really like it. It is very light weight, but very warm (especially today when it was -16 degrees on my way to work). I normally wear smalls in shirts but ordered a medium and it fits pretty well - a little big, but room for big sweatshirts/sweaters. The only thing is that I wish it were a bit longer because it just barely cover my bottom but it said that it would come to about mid-thigh.
Is it possible to speak with a person who speak french?I would like to know if this Jacket is for winter, for young girl or women, and how to process to have this item. This item interessing me, and I speak french, and I don't want to buy this jacket if it's not for me.
I was concerned when I received this jacket that it wouldn't be warm enough, as it is so thin and lightweight........but I have been out in below freezing temps, and it is great - warm but not heavy & bulky. Fits well, and good length.
I live in Chicago and by far this is the warmest jacket I have ever worn. The style is great and the color is really nice! I recommend this to any one who loves in the Midwest.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE this jacket. The lenghth is perfect as it is a little longer than my waist and it is SO warm! It has eough filler but is not overly warm!
Love the length, warmth, color (cherry stained brown) and the fact that it's washable! I have small children so everything must be washable... Still can't get over value here compared to NF itself! And shipping was super fast! Only wish it was a bit more tapered at the waist.
Just got my jacket today, in Vintage White (small). Looks great and is perfect for cold midwest winters. Runs true to size except for the sleeves. They're pretty long, so I'll have to fold them in. I was surprised by this considering that I tried this jacket on in a nearby store, and the sleeves fit fine.
I Absolutely Love my TNF Transit Down Jacket. My only regret is that I did not purchase it sooner. I looked and looked for a coat that I liked, I more...
I love this jacket! I just received it yesterday and could not be more happy. I have a long torso so the length of this jacket is perfect for me! Comes more...
