The North Face Trans-Antarctica Base Camp Duffel - 2008 BCS

Tough. I have 2 of em, and they've seen lots of travel (airlines, truck, boat, etc.) Zippers aren't sealed, so not water-tight like a river bag, but you can leave it out in a snowstorm and it will keep your stuff dry.

Bought a medium - big enough for ski boots & assorted gear/clothes for a weekend trip. An underpacked medium *should* fit as a carryon. I'm going to try thin in about a week.

My second North Face Base Camp Duffel... this trans-antarctic one is basically identical to the regular base camp bag with only some minor differences in where the straps are positioned and in the graphics... but this one is on sale at backcountry so I bought this one... these bags do not ever get heavily discounted... i have a medium for hauling gear on ski weekends and travel for work when i'm gone for 3 or more days... and a small for short work trips where i am gone for 2 days or less... both are fine for carry-on luggage although the medium size could be flagged by an aggressive stewardess if you had it packed full... that said, I've packed it pretty full and never had a problem on maybe 15-20 flights (I fly a lot)... Both bags keep stuff dry and are very durable...

I just got this bag in today and all i can say is i'm impressed. I got a large to take with me on move to new zealand and it fits the bill perfect. the material seems almost waterproof but i could see where the bottom might get damp if set in a puddel or something. All the seems and bindings look top class and pretty tear resistant.. a high quality product that i would recommend for any large travel need

I've used TNF duffels for many trips and they are bomber. I like that they don't add a lot of weight when using them as airline luggage, so you can pack a lot of outdoor gear without going over the weight limit and incurring an additional fee. Also the backpack straps come in handy and are comfortable enough for short hauls.
