Description

The down of dreams.

Reach for The North Face Women's Thunder Micro Down Jacket when you need an extra layer of warmth to combat the frigid winter air. Its 800-fill down insulation keeps your core toasty, while the Thunder's compressible design allows it to stow easily in its own hand pocket when you ski tour or snowshoe.

Natural down is the warmest, lightest, and most compressible insulation available, but when it gets wet it clumps, stops insulating, and takes a long time to dry. The North Face uses an exclusive water-resistant treatment to solve this problem. 800 WRD, the down used in the Thunder jacket, stays dry 17 times longer than untreated down and maintain 100% of its loft when wet. The athletic fit makes it easier to layer a shell over the Thunder for really cold weather. The North Face finished the Thunder with two zippered hand pockets, elastic at the cuffs to comfortably seal out draft, and a low-profile cinch cord at the hem that allows you to customize the fit.

  • Nylon ripstop construction
  • Water-resistant 800-fill down insulation
  • Women-specific athletic fit
  • Two zippered hand pockets
  • The North Face Summit Series

color

It's an awesome jacket, however the color is not true to what is shown online. I ordered the beach glass and it looks super bright online and in person, it is more pastel. Just a heads up if that matters to you. Good quality jacket though.

Hey Jennifer - I love the color online. Bummer it doesn't match. Would you mind uploading a picture so I can see the difference?

New favorite jacket!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs small

Great jacket! Fits well - I went with the S vs the XS. Many times I would be an XS but I wanted the extra bulk for warmth. This jacket is great down to say 50F and ok in a pinch to about 40F. I plan to use it as an inner layer at lower temps.

Bought as a Gift

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift

I bought this as a gift - so far so good.

The jacket runs small and the blue jacket is definitely a dark purple. I ordered a medium instead of a small and it fits perfectly. She is very happy with the fit, warmth, and style of this jacket. Still highly recommend!

Arms too long, shoulders too tight

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

The arms are too long in the large but shoulders too tight in medium, so I sent both back. Also, the red is rather orangy, instead of a bright red, and feathers show as dark spots through the material. Otherwise, jacket is well-made and probably quite warm

I hate when the color isn't well represented. The see through doesn't bother me but the color would. Thanks for the heads up.

Comfy Lightweight Down Jacket

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift

I gave this as a gift and have had nothing but positive feedback. This jacket looks great and is very versatile. As expected with 800 fill down, the jacket is incredibly light.

Makes for a great base layer in 25 degrees or lower, but should do just fine as an outer layer for anything above that.

Idaho

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size

Bought this 800 lb down thinking it would be warm. Not even close. Tested it with just a t-shirt on underneath in 20 degrees F. In 10 min arms were uncomfortably cold. Tried same test with much less expensive brand 600 lb and could have stayed outside all day. Very disappointed in Northface brand. Wayyyy too expensive for what we got. Backcountry service was excellent though! Had no hassle return and quick credit back.

That was my BF's exact opinion. Great for a mid layer; or Spring/fall wearing.

Classy and Casual

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: Runs small

This has become my go-to jacket anytime I head out the door. The best part is even if I wear this with pajama pants, I still look classy. Love love love the cuffs on the sleeve which add length to the arms for a thinning look. The sleeves will come down past the wrists a good amount, so if you don't like longer sleeves, this may not be your best choice. The collar is almost 4 inches tall and stays upright. This jacket is so light but keeps me fairly warm. My mom and sister saw me wearing this and ended up ordering the same one for both of them they liked it that much.

Packable and comfortable

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

I got this jacket for a weekend trip to Colorado and needed something that would pack well and keep me warm in the evenings. This jacket took up hardly any space in my carry on luggage and kept me relatively warm when I needed it (I tend to be colder than a lot of other people, so I was a little chilled at night when it got down to the mid-40s--I paired the jacket with a regular-weight sweater or flannel shirt). I personally wouldn't rely on this for a heart-of-winter jacket, but it works well for the fall or for vacations where you don't want to bring any bulky layers.

Hi Anne!
Yes this jacket will fit true to size- The North Face products tend to be at the top of the list for products that fit true to size.

This particular jacket did seem to run smaller than normal by at least a size, due to the fit. I bought my mom an XL in this which was a little loose, but she normally wears a Medium in TNF, and a few other ladies I've talked to agreed. So I would say maybe size up.
