Go ahead, work up a sweat.

Down is great, but work up a sweat while wearing it, and you're pretty much done. The North Face designed the Men's ThermoBall Hybrid Hooded Insulated Jacket specifically to keep your core warm while you're working up a sweat. Primaloft powered Thermoball insulation is placed throughout the torso to warm your innards, while The North Face's Apex Aerobic soft-shell material is placed at the sleeves and sides to promote breathability when you're on the move.

Thermoball insulation not only mimics the insulating properties of down, but it is also highly compressible. This jacket has a stowable design, so you can easily pack it along whem your hiking, climbing, or backcountry skiing. Elastic binding at the cuffs and hem helps trap heat, while the drop hood shields your face from bone-chilling ridge line winds. You won't want to leave home without this versatile and technical insulating layer, which is great for almost any outdoor objective.

Thermoball Hybrid Hoodie

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: XL

I have given up trying to predict what the conditions will be at the coast or up in the mountains when I leave home. I just bring a duffel packed with an assortment of gear. This hoodie fits right in, between the light shell and the warmer insulated jacket. This jacket is particularly well suited to the fall and spring here in the northwest, able to keep your core warm and easily sheds light moisture. Lightweight and allows good mobility.

Light yet warm

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Large

I love my TNF Thermoball jacket. I think the thing about it that I like the best is the warmth vs weight. The jacket is light and packs down nice and small, but still provides ample warmth when worn. I've taken it snowshoeing and still had to shed it off because I was starting to sweat! My only gripe is that the sleeves are really thin, like so thin I started to wonder why this is even an option. But, they still provide protection against wet weather (it's not completely waterproof, but is water resistant so you won't get completely drench) so I guess they're not all bad. Overall, would I recommend this product? Yes!

Light yet warm

Compliments galore

  • Fit: Runs large
  • Size Bought: Medium

Much better warmth than I would expect given the tissue paper thin sleeves. I normally wear a large, but this in a medium fit me snugly and best.

Works great, packs small

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Medium

I have had this in my scrambling pack for a little while now. Blocks the cold air quickly after putting it on, and did a decent job of keeping me dry when it started to rain. Decent breathability, but my core still warmed up while moving. The great part is that it packs down into the pocket so it is a space saver.

TNF Thermoball Hybrid

I have been wearing this jacket the last month or so, the jacket is really comfortable and looks nice. However if you are looking for a nice warm jacket on a cold day this is not the one. This jacket is better for fall. It is a nice layer to have on while hiking in the winter.

I agree with Matt T. The jacket is basically a light vest with thin sleeves and a light hood -- Kind of an oddball jacket. Yet, that said, it is surprisingly warm, despite its light weight. I wouldn't pay the full price ($180) for this. Seems you're paying a lot for style and brand.

Is the hood on this thin enough to fit comfortably under a ski helmut.
