Hike into the backcountry and sleep comfortably in the North Face Tephra 22 Tent. This two-person, three season tent's lightweight and bomber design makes it ideal for extended trips on foot. The Tephra is simple. It requires no engineering degree—the Tephra 22 has continuous sleeves and a color-coded canopy and flysheet to make assembly a cinch. Its internal prayer-bound floor seams ensure you won't spring a leak during a summer deluge and like all of North Face tents, it can be coupled with a footprint (sold separately) for fly-only pitching. The Tephra's see-through mesh canopy affords great ventilation.

Bottom Line: Less is more—the Northface Tephra 22 tent is a bomber lightweight tent without the fuss.

BEST TENT I EVER HAD!!!

By:
May 22, 2011

I logged onto Backcountry today to buy a new Tephra because the Tephra I have had for about ten years (YES! TEN!) was stolen this afternoon out of my back yard where my boyfriend set it up to dry after he borrowed it for a rafting trip. Sadly, I see this tent is now no longer made.

That tent didn't just sit in my garage for ten years, it went on trips with me at least once a month on off-seasons, more frequently in the on-season, and I even lived in it during several summers while doing field work. It withstood some of the gnarliest wet conditions i've been in and never needed to be resealed, those same seals didn't crack or fail when I subjected them to the heat of Death Valley in the late spring or southern Arizona in the summer and fall. The tent went with me when I hiked Whitney and down into the Grand Canyon, we enjoyed the view on Cedar Mesa, and was light enough to take backpacking in Mexico and Africa.

Ten years with that tent and it did everything I asked it to!

I particularly like the narrow design on this tent - it's great for one person and a backpack. I prefer one small door over two large doors (which seems to be the way most of North Face's tents are made now) - if it's a backpacking tent, the one door is ounces lighter, and makes it easier for the tent to fit places other big tents, or even tents with a rounder footprint/rain fly, might not.

GREAT JOB NORTHFACE, I'll be buying another!

Great, lightweight tent

This is a great, lightweight tent that I used to camp in Moab. It fits two adults with adequate space. It's free standing and incredibly easy to setup.

Tehpra 22 *Update*

By:

Took the Tephra 22 on a 3,000 mile ride through TX, CO, WY, MT and ID. Once again the tent was great. Used the fly each time and had no moisture on the inside of the tent. Vestibule was just the right size. Easy to set up. Inside is good height for changing clothes in. Highly recommend this tent. Wish the poles folded smaller though.

Tephra 22 a great tent

By:
May 22, 2006

I camp when riding my motorcycle, and this tent was great for that. I recently used the Tephra 22 without the fly on a hot night in Austin and had to set up in the dark which was easy. The tent provides plenty of room for one person and gear (wouldn't want two people in there). Airflow through the tent was just right while providing some privacy near my head and shoulders.

Great Value!

By:

I bought this tent a couple of months ago and I have used it about three times. I am thrilled with its performance in all weather (I have yet to test it in snow). This is one of the best tents on the market at its price! I also recommend the optional gear loft. The vestibule is great for storing gear and on cold mornings cooking in (be sure to open the door to allow proper ventilation and to keep heat away from tent fabrics). Great all-around tent!

Awesome Tent!!!

By:

I love this tent! I have the Pebble 23 which is the older version but from the looks of it the Tephra 22 is the same thing only a different color and some minor improvements. All I ask for a tent is for it to keep me dry, and it does just that. Weight is reasonable for the price, a little cramped area wise, but I don't mind. I do like the fact that I can sit up with out my head pushing against the ceiling. Overall a great bang for the buck!!!
