Tahoe Down Hooded Jacket - Men's

The lake run took longer than you thought, and a whiteout is coming in fast. This is when you'll appreciate The North Face Tahoe Jacket, because when you're stuck halfway down from Donner Summit after sunset, you can't put a price on 700-fill down insulation with an attached, insulated hood.

  • Napoleon chest pocket stores your headlamp and a mood-lifting candy bar
  • Slightly dropped hem adds rear coverage
  • Fabric overlay on sleeves and shoulders improves durability

Bottom Line: Because the Donner Party wasn't a celebration.

Durable Workhorse

I really dig The North Face Tahoe Down Hooded Jacket because:

--how puffy the hood is
--the durability of the outer nylon.
--inside the pockets are a super warm & comfy micro-fleece liners- an amazing detail not in the description!

It is my cragging belay jacket of choice that has lasted up to tons of abuse and rock scruffs without tearing apart and spilling down everywhere.

Highly Recommended piece, hope this helps!

just got mine today
i feel nuptse is a bit bulky and heavier, my arms move better in this one, but again this can mean it has less down in arms... i also feel it is slightly longer than the nuptse. i have long torso, but i feel more comfortable in this one when i raise my arms.

You Will Be Warm!!

Man has it been cold in Boulder this winer...but I've been staying toasty warm in my Tahoe. This Jacket is really bomber. The outer shell is super solid...you can rough this jacket up a bit and everything will be just fine. The hood is super warm and I think for the uber cold weather, it's pretty invaluable. The fleecy pockets are luxurious. This jacket is built to last.. Which I find to be a very endearing quality. The perfect belay jacket, but also perfect for any stop and go activity where you want to stay warm between spurts of action. I also have found it's exception for a warm hop between bars on cold brisk blustery evening.

Get it.

This was my first Chicago winter. I don't really like wearing layers and this jacket worked great. Aside from a couple of weeks in the dead of winter I wore this jacket to work every day with only a tshirt underneath. A light sweater on top was enough for the coldest days.

My one gripe about it is that it feels like it should be about 2 inches longer than it is. It barely covers my belt. I'm 5'11" 155 lbs and I have a Small. The Medium was basically just as long but just wider.

I debating on getting this jacket but I'm not sure about the size. I'm 5'11" and 230 lbs. I'm a little out of shape but do workout and very athletic. Is XL the way to go?

Updated review

After my initial review, decided not exactly what I wanted. The hood is useless as there is no toggle or visor and it's not deep enough to cover head and forehead. Needs more pockets as only has front chest and hand pockets. Temp range the same: 32-40ish with a sweater. Going to exchange because of the hood issue. Size wise and light weight/not puffiness still great.

Not exactly sure but I do know it is imported. I've seen TNF's products be made anywhere from Thailand, China, Honduras and many others.

Just received and wore the tahoe. For those women whom are broad shoulder, long arms, with bust, and short waisted but otherwise straight figure, this jacket is perfect. Today was 35F, windy and had a light sweater underneath...very toasty. Could have just worn a long sleeve tshirt. Couldn't feel the wind at all.

sweet jacket that's well constructed. did a nice job of keeping me WARM in 4 degree weather. one minor gripe is that if you're not wearing the hood, it bunches up behind your neck, which is slightly annoying. you can roll the hood inside out to prevent this, but doing so exposes the inner lining to the elements. still though, it's a solid jacket and the mountain blue color looks even sharper than in the pic

What is warmer, the North Face Tahoe Down Hooded jacket or the Mountain Hardwear Sub Zero SL Jacket? I live in a cold climate. This is not for use in mountaineering, but I do spend a lot of time outdoors and in the backcountry. Thanks!

I would go with the Tahoe...I find it VERY durable, and I'm not a big fan of detachable hoods.

Well the Mountain Hardwear hooded jacket is a lot more durable and not made out of cheap nylon, it is waterproofed and will stand up to just about anything. Also the hood is removable. I would definitely go with the Mountain Hardwear jacket.

Tahoe Jacket

By:
February 4, 2010

If you want a good jacket that looks cool and keeps you warm. This one is great. I wouldnt necessarily recommend this for serious wear. But for milling around town and the occasional outdoor outing its great. I am 6'7" and thin. I purchased a XL. The sleeves are short by about a 1" but I went ahead with it because I didnt want the oversized body of the XXL

hope this helps
