The Stratosphere Jacket from The North Face features three-ply Gore-Tex Performance Shell, to take you to the summit and protect your descent at any speed. The North Face equipped this lightweight waterproof shell with classic climbing, hiking, and ski elements, like waist and hem drawcords, a stowable wire-brimmed hood, and high-set chest pockets that double as core vents. With this kind of versatility and the guaranteed performance of Gore-Tex fabric, the Stratosphere Jacket will only get a break during the summertime…and only if it's not raining.
Bottom Line: As dependable on rare-air ascents as it is in the rain.
This jacket has a lightweight feel even though it is meant for heavy duty use. Just got this baby and it worked great for uphill ski touring with a thin layer underneath. For the downhill I slapped on an optimus hoody underneath and I was plenty warm.Another good quality is the price point for what the jacket was intended to be used for climbing, skiing, wet downhill mountain bike rides, hiking.
It doesn't have reinforced shoulders, but is a pretty good weight to durability trade-off. I wouldn't want anything heavier than this jacket for backpacking

I really have only used this jacket for the making amd maintaining of an ice rink(Not why i bought it tho). I really bouth the jacket because i wanted to dabble in to some Gore-Tex. I went for the performance gore-tex instead of the pro becasue of price and i didnt but the paclite because like the name, was to light. I feel like this jacket did get a good test tho, being put through the moving of pre nailed boareds (which i had a few stick in not through the jacket and was very suprised how well it held up and how water proof it stayed), the maintenance of flood lights and large amounts of water flooding in -35 celsius (never do that again). This is just a shell so i did need some layers underneath but it didnt let in any water even when i got blasted by the hose or when the snow was falling so hard i couldnt see infront of me. On the warmer days it breathed great and it was light enough to not constricted me. **All in all it isnt as light as the pro-SHELL but for the price you get a great water-proof and breathable jacket that holds up well to the elements.
Great Coat, but it's not warm by its self. It's just a shell. You need insulation under it.**Correction- It is not a coat, rather it is just a jacket. Please do not misrepresent the rest of the outdoor community by using inaccurate terminology.
It's a great jacket. Gore-Tex is, by far, the best material a product can have. I was amazed how lightweight the jacket was. I gave it 4 stars because I wish it had more pockets. When I'm miles away from civilization, I want more pockets to keep the small, important things closer to me. The two pockets just wasn't cutting it for me. Overall, it's extremely and durable. A great jacket.
